  1. I am new to Franklins and passed on a 26 open car because I was stupid. Have a 31 but regret thinking that 25K was too high and passed

  3. I keep looking at NY'ers because I would like a flat 8 but then I look over t 1916-18 Buicks because I want a 100 yr old car. If i could find a 46-47 Imperial at a good price I would be in boner land. Too many great cars and not enough money for sure
  4. Could this be fixed just doing the baby shit brown to black maybe ? If anything, the color choices of the 70's are a good marker in time for restorations. Now if 70's was this, what color choices were the 60"s?
  5. I just noticed under the hood pic. Just what am I looking at with all that added on stuff above the starter relay???
  6. I have a 46 club couple in bombardier blue. My door cards the same color but the fabric detail is way off as are the seats. The dash though is very special and looks great. Really good stuff. Changing color speedo. You get over 35 and it changes from green to red. (Danger?) Fluid drive car. That old reliable flat 6. But at this price he will sit on it for years. I gave 5k for my "little rough" beater 4 years ago. Paint looks good but the owners choice of matching his tractor ? These models always seemed to me to be leaning forward when standing still
  7. Looks like another one of those cars that a weekends worth of work on the paint would totally turn the presentation of this car for the better.
  8. Looking at the Rad, I think it had an overheating issue at one time.
  9. Really like this car. Go take a ride over. Seems like a long time owner deal hoping to pass it on to car people. Closer look I see a pressure regulator for an electric fuel pump ? Never dealt with vac tank problems before. This one still hooked up. Does anyone believe in the old adage of these cars that if they had electric fuel pumps they would have used them during the time ? I am happy to have a mechanical factory fuel pump on my 31 Plymouth and the 31 Franklin especially (air cooled) as the under hood heat surely made vapor lock a big issue in hotter climates with a vac tank or gravity feed ?
  10. Hood likes a repaint while the rest of car could be original. The back corner of the coach shows it's been rubbed through.
  11. They had cable pully systems from franklin in an attempt to lift the sag early on. Some have tried the steel plates after arching the rails. I only know of one restorer who took the time and do the math and build the correct arch into a set of new ash frame rails that compensated for the weight and future sag. That car still rides true with no sag. As over engineered as Franklins were they just never could get this right until the steel frame was put in. It causes no problem with the minor sag you see here and I have not seen one so bad where the engine made contact with the firewall. This actually looks a little less then "normal" The wood frame cars with double elliptical springs front and rear gives a tremendous ride quality.
  12. I love my Franklin but it is a 31 with more horsepower and a side draft engine with better cooling. I notice right away this has much less frame sag then many of the Franklins from this era or it could just be the angle of the picture. Very nice car regardless. He should try posting within the Franklin club.
  13. Thank you Laura but I am looking for pre 1920's. Cole looks like a very interesting car. Definitely looks and sit higher. A more robust look to it. I was surprised how big those early Locomobiles, etc are when compared too a model T. The size of the average person back then looked dwarfed in these larger cars
  14. Crops are looking great this year. I see a cut of plug with my name on it.
  15. Not familiar with this year but I see the clutch pedal which would tell me this is the semi auto M6 (7?) with fluid drive yet I see trans gear select indicator on the column. This common? My 50 Chrysler functions more on the lines of a 3 on the tree with the same semi auto trans w/ fluid coupler. I find this quite interesting. The color combination of the latter for sale is the exact same as my 50 Chrysler Windsor Newport. Heck, the entire dash is the same except they moved the ignition switch from the left side of the steering wheel to the right.

  17. Nothing exciting but it is a great memory. Dad and Mom scrimped enough away by 1973 to take the family to FL and go to Disney World and see my grandfather in West Palm. ( I later found out they had been saving for 2 years and doing every odd job possible to make it happen) So loaded up the 68 Travelall (that would die in the rain) and the travel trailer and away we went with my older brother, 6 month old sister, an old one eye'd German pointer named Lady, and no AC. Quite an adventure for me from Long Island. I mean going to PA to see grandma at the time was like going to another country. The oil embargo had just started but that wasn't stopping Dad! I spent a good portion of the trip under the CRIB in the back roasting as I remember and watched when dad stopped for gas he was taking notes of prices and gallons with no clue why. (I found all his journals after his death tucked away) Had a great 2 weeks and then started back. Only this time we had to stop for gas every 2 hours and wait in line for another 2. Looking at his journals for the trip much later I saw we could only get 4-5 gallons at a time. By this time he was really doing math at every stop. At every stop lines got longer and sometimes we got only 2 gallons. Finally made it into NJ which seemed like it took a week and it was there he was told no gas unless your plate started with some letter. Mom thought we would be stuck in NJ for 3-4 days. This adventure was getting boring to say the least. Vividly remember that peanut jar we used for the bathroom wasn't fun anymore. Then out of the blue some guy approached dad and asked "Are you from Blue Point?", pointing at the BPFD sticker Dad had on the back window. (This was before the A-rabs ran the pumps and could speak English) Dad said YES. Pump attendant said "Well my brother is a firemen in Sayville(one town over) where he then pointed at the travelall and said "FILL IT UP". Well Dad was happy as can be for the fill up but for some reason we started the rest of the trip at 40 MPH. I do remember wondering why we were going so slow. There was no thought of stopping now. When we hit the bridge he dropped to 35 MPH and then on the LIE down to 30. He was worried about running out of gas. (all documented in his journal). 30 MPH all the way to exit 62. Into Blue Point, down Madison Street where he got the trailer backed in 3/4's of the way into the back and ran out of gas. Next morning had to go get 5 gallons to unhook. Never realized the stress he was under at the time. Money was getting slim. (What was a credit card?) Thankfully for posterity he documented it all.
  18. He gives me 300 I'll drive over and remove it from his yard. I have a hankering to rebuild a flat 6 as it is something I have never done before. This might be a good starting point and I do have a 46 Dodge. Should say "Fluid Drive" in the rear bumper if it's a dodge.
  19. so they spent 300K to make a car that basically will now become a statue some place once any "coolness" wears off. I doubt even Jay Leno would touch it.
