  1. I have a 31 plymouth with hydraulics and didn't know Chrysler was that far ahead in hydraulic brakes. I was thinking 1929?
  2. Remember that these cars were Chryslers from the firewall back. Dodge screwed up and didn't have a full size sedan because they thought chevy was downsizing. They missed the impala. So Chrysler agreed to "give them" chryslers with attached Dodge front sheet metal till 1965. Getting parts for these 880's is not hard but some parts are straight up Chrysler like brake drums depending what rear went in. My 63 880 takes dodge front drums and chrysler rears. The vacuum line system on these cars though is straight up hell on earth with a spaghetti mess in the heater / AC controls that is all that crappy yellow plastic nipple ports that crumbled to dust years ago.
  3. Those rear windows even when non power are frustrating at times. Swiveling down on the 1950. The same here ?
  4. I find the choice of rims more detrimental to presentation then the color. But this does need more color to it IMO as the trim seems to vanish into the paint. I can not imagine finding replacement rear glass for this rolling greenhouse.
  5. Got a few more pics from the wedding I chauffeured a couple weeks back. Can't believe the shine held up as every road on the property was dirt or gravel.
  6. This just popped up in my mailbox. This is new to me. Never thought they used a cross ram. https://journal.classiccars.com/2021/09/18/pick-of-the-day-1961-dart-phoenix-d-500-convertible-rare-piece-of-dodge-history/?utm_source=infusionsoft-pod&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pod&inf_contact_key=f6fa3f47cc5fd5b9ffde0961ac275f681b0a3f0fd3ee5d9b43fb34c6613498d7
  7. I find the 50-52 Chrylser's interesting from the standpoint they were trying to get to a fully auto trans but couldn't do it all at once so they took to subtle changes. In 1950 you still have to use the gear selector much in the way of a three on the tree but you just put in high or low range. No indicator. Needed the clutch to change through the 2 different ranges and reverse but let your foot off the gas at the right speed and it would shift between the two gears within the selected range. Then the next year they just made it look like an auto trans with the gear selector on the column but you still needed the clutch. Chrysler was behind in auto trans development for many years until they built one of the best. But is has been told to me that fluid drive equipped cars where great in the snow.
  8. The scourge of Long Island come the mid 80's was the next gen IROC's. Every Italian guy over age 25 had one in red.
  9. It went to Unique Auto. Not one of my best trades but them blowing 3rd gear made it even. It was a 1 owner car when I got it.
  10. And all engines went to hydraulic lifters right ? Not just the larger engine ?
  11. Mine was citrus orange and a 4 speed in HS. I bought this one in brown a few years back and sold it 18 months later because I didn't "feel it" not being an orange car. It was dead stock with nothing removed or modified. It was as close as I could find in 30 years of looking but just didn't fit the bill in the end. It went to Unique Auto in MN where during a "test drive", one of their mechanic's blew out 3rd gear.
  12. That looks to be a nice imperial. Still a simple car to work on with parts easy to find as long as it isn't the bright work. last reg. 1987 Everything was pretty rock solid in these cars
  13. following as I myself am also eyeballing a 38
  14. It is always a question of mine how they say they could not tool up for an all metal roof yet at the time we were building battleships using massive steel plates.
  15. I finished doing some window weather stripping a few weeks ago and have been staring at the NOS starter. The old one needs a rebuild of the solenoid and every once in a while I have to push it forward with a screwdriver. sticky. Somehow when I did the points a few weeks ago I got them off so running not so good right now. Ran great for the first 10 miles and then began getting a miss and hiccup. Found a crack in the fuel pump so took apart a couple I had around to make one. Once weather cools next week I will get more motivation. 100 degree with humidity garbage has to go. My 63 dodge is on the lift right now and for some reason it basically bleed out what looks like every drop of trans fluid on the floor over last weekend when I was driving the Buick for the wedding party. Just saw that Thursday. So need to change a battery cable on the 63 and find out what line cracked. Then I can get the 39 back up the hill into the work garage. Been accumulating parts. new dash glass inserts, linkage rebuild kit (The slop is terrible), electric kick down for the OD, wiring harnesses. Still need the solenoid at the carb for the kick down and have been told later studes/ hudson units are the same. Now that I have the 31 Plymouth running tops, this fall is when I get started in earnest.
