  1. just a crank and pistons, some valves and connecting rods. Nothing to it.
  2. Some of the comments on BAT really make you wonder if people have ever driven in a car older then 5 years past new.
  3. If you swapped out to a Pertronix I have found the timing is usually off and will need an adjustment. It isn't much but enough. Did you drive it at all prior to the swap ? Some people like the swap others don't. I have had it in 6 of my cars for years without failure. Everything from a 39 Chrysler to a 65 Fury and my 49 Road Master
  4. I did land "grandma's" 53 Plymouth sedan for 1700. That was 90 minutes out. After a brake job, evapo rust for a season, and changing the water distribution tube out, I use it for work commute a couple times a week. It really is an HPOF car is why I bought it. If ever an HCCA event made it close this thing would clean up. Extra points for the 1963 seat covers (I have the receipt for) 34K miles of a life on a gravel road.
  5. Sold the bumpers but nobody wanted the radiator cap? The correct one for my 31 PA is like 600 bucks.. Needless to say I don't have one.
  6. All I get is non running 59 desoto's and rusted out 51 Dodges that are 20 minutes from the house.
  7. Beauty for sure but if it has sat we all know the drill just from brakes, to carb, to fuel pump getting it going. This car has been on the list above an Imperial but below a New Yorker. Am I the only one who likes pictures like this because of the garage detective work you get to do ?
  8. These transmissions are pretty rock solid and if you change the oil in them every couple of years they will go another 60 years. It is listed as a maintenance item. Same trans combo in my 50 Chrysler has never been out. Fluid Coupler might start to leak at the rear but rarely. Clutch job is just like every other and maybe easier as the front floor pan is removable. Parts for these Mopars are easy and everywhere.
  9. I have always liked Packard's and skim over the for sale adds regularly hoping to find a deal one day. Would be nice to have a 48-49 sitting next to my 49 Buick Roadmaster. Maybe one day I will hit that one stock.
  10. With this year there is a solenoid on the trans, a funky relay on the drivers side fender well that is actuated by switch near the carb that is linkage tripped. Floor it and it all kicks it out of OD. The relay works as you describe above from I read. I have driven mine comfortably without any of the kick down attached.
  11. I found my all original 53 Plymouth from a shop here in TX in much the same manner as this car sits. Grandson inherited and could not fix and when got the bill gave it to the shop. Easy cars to work on. The 53 sedan I found I got for 1700 because nobody knew how to pull the water distribution tube that was plugged and get it to stop overheating. Brake issues and shitty gas sounds like an easy project. Bet it fires over with a couple shots of starter fluid. I won't touch it for 8 or even 4 but if it is still there in Feb I bet he takes 3500
  12. That is one really nice dash insert. Really impossible to find one this nice. The paint is always peeled off on the glass on the instruments and speedo. Those can be found but the plastic on the dash is always toast. Stories of them melting and cracking and shrinking in under a year in southern states. OD's on these cars are rock solid and mechanical in nature. It is the electric kick down to get out on hills that parts can be hard to find. I have been able to track down all of it except the switch on the carb and the bracket. Been told Hudsons are like. Getting into OD is just getting it up to a certain speed in third and letting off the gas till it drops in. http://fordification.com/tech/overdrive.htm
  13. The Post war era of Mopars like this are so easy to work on and rock solid. Great cars for people new to the hobby to start with.
