  1. The outer sheath is split and that is where it is leaking from, 5-6 inches from the trans. I don't know if there is a seal behind the gear that can be replaced or not
  2. It has a long white plastic gear on one end and pushes into the trans where it is held in place with a clamp. The other end screws on normally. Like this. Then the plastic gear is pushed on. They want crazy prices for NOS and the repo's I have found are as bad as they beefed them up for racing I guess.
  3. I ended up using two different cables and making the small 12 gauge solenoid wire as it is impossible to find a repo in the one piece. Every supply house listed 2 separate cables. Battery to solenoid and solenoid to starter. Lug was long enough to accept both so that is how I went. Haven't cranked it yet as the battery is on charge. This year 880's were basically Newports. Now trying to find a speedo cable. This could get a "Red-Green" fix as I can't find anything.
  4. Can't find anywhere but NOS and this car doesn't need that. Everything listed for sale are wrong. 63 had the white gear on the end and pushed in and was then held in place with a clamp.. The sheath on mine is split and the seal is worn. Fluid dripping everywhere from the sheath itself.
  5. Not leaking at the connection to the trans but from the cable itself about 6 inches from the trans is where the drips are. I see parts suppliers listing speedo cables for an 880 that is anything but for an 880 and NOS is way too much for this car
  6. Thanks. This cable looks from the year one. Glad I tossed her on the lift as I found quite a leak where the speedo cable mates to the trans as well. Now to see how hard of a time it is to find the fix for that.
  7. Everything on the starting side was original. Here is what started happening. Car is my parts runner and since I got it not done much too it except the brakes as everything was fine. One day it cranked over and fired up but it was cold so it stumbled and stalled. Went to re-crank and nothing. Not even a click. So popped the hood and checked the terminals and the positive heading to the starter was hot. REAL hot. So I had my buddies help me push into the garage where I have been working my way down from the battery and changing out the original stuff. Ground, etc. Still had a Chrysler starter in it along with the original wiring. My thinking is the person who had it before me had a same type issue and just added an extra wire because they didn't want to mess with the 12 gauge solenoid wire encased in the insulation with the starter cable. Installed a new starter and now working back with the wiring to the battery. I can't find a repo on the 1 piece cable with the solenoid clip crimped on in the middle so am 2 piecing it. Rock auto specials. Just curious to see if this one I removed was really original still. Starter sure looked at least 40 years old by the wear on the nose
  8. If someone has a picture of a factory 1 piece cable could they post a picture? I am in the process of replacing one and doing away with one really bad Rube Goldberg job. For some odd reason there is an "extra" cable running from the battery directly to the starter along with the factory original one that just by-passes the solenoid in the manner of someone's thinking of "Hey I need more juice to turn this over because the factory one is shot so lets just do this"
  9. Looks like they tried to make a Chrysler. Are those airflow skirts ?
  10. They always look destroyed and rubbed wrong. My 65 Fury has the same set up and not nearly as bad. My guess if the car was used in parades and people sat on the back of the seat these things got destroyed instantly as it is really thin material. Can't think of another way they would always look this dented and crushed. I solved music issues in all my cars by downloading Amazon music on my phone and getting blue tooth speakers. Then set hours of play lists for each year car.
  11. Back in the day I remember walking past many of these at Carlisle in this very color while on the hunt for 67 Coronet 440 parts. Wish I had bought a couple while all the rave was playing Dukes Of Hazard.
  12. Having a federal firearms license makes a case or paranoia even worse
  13. I have 8 cars here that one day when I am too old to do much of anything they will go to...... nobody. No kids or even nephews that have the ability to even turn a key. I have them ready to be donated to a wounded vet charity and guess they will try and sell them in the same manner
  14. Inflation with the 35% increase? The 8 is a draw for sure but only having drivin a 6 Royal at 45-50 MPH with OD because of the "Asshole on the road factor" I don't know what the gain of the 8 would be ?
  15. My buddies 88 year old parents are in town so of course had to get the old girl cleaned up and head out. Just something about the feel, sounds, and smell of an old car that really brings back the memories and makes for great stories along the way.
  16. Have not gotten it removed from the car yet so no picture but need the factory positive cable that is one piece with the splice connector in the middle (Can't find my manual right now) for the solenoid and also has small gauge wire contained in the main going to the starter from solenoid. Basically one wire jumps all from the battery to solenoid to starter. All I am coming up with is a standard cable. I guess I can always 2 piece it if the factory type is unobtanium. 63 custom 880's were basically Chrysler Newport's.
  17. I more commenting on the placement. You seem to be needing to look everywhere but where you're going. I did not know this was a splasher engine. New to me. Did this just monitor the amount then ? Yes, the red light for the average driver screams "check me" unless your the normal driver of today where the "check engine" light just means to pull over at your convenience when the rod knock gets too loud to be drowned out by the radio. 20 something year old at the shop with a locked up motor. " Well the add oil light never came on and since it was still running why check the engine, it's not broke"
