How to adjust Steering box slack or lag... Buick 1956 Riviera 46R
mike6024 replied to MrY's topic in Buick Riviera
You don't need a scale if you do it by feel, but you see the scale readings are such that it is light, so you should feel not much. That is my opinion anyway. -
How to adjust Steering box slack or lag... Buick 1956 Riviera 46R
mike6024 replied to MrY's topic in Buick Riviera
I think this is the official maintenance procedures in this link. Pitman adjustment and other things. Pitman adjustment is not the only thing that can contribute to slack. In other words if you adjust it correctly there may be other things still contributing to slack. https://www.hometownbuick.com/1956-buick-steering-gear-and-linkage-maintenance/ -

Have modern car marketing dept's finally jumped the shark ?
mike6024 replied to 1912Staver's topic in General Discussion
It's a product of marketing research, and appeals to the American psyche. Black is like Batman the Dark Knight, associated with tough outlaws. Black is a very popular color, and at auction black cars often sell for more. This one went for $23k, but what I found interesting is many potential bidders complained that the interior wasn't black too. They said if only the interior was black too it would be perfect. I thought wow, black over tan is perfect. Black with black would be gross. -
Picture was provided by the grandson of the station owner. "Howard Bury, owned three service stations in the City, including the one pictured here. I'm assuming that it was taken in the twenties, since he lost all three in the Great Depression."

Cadillac Carl, is your 27 Cadillac missing?
mike6024 replied to Alex D.'s topic in General Discussion
I sent Carl a PM awhile back, on some entirely other issue. He answered my question, but also gave me his phone and said it would be easier to call him, call anytime he said. I am under the impression he is busy with his move. And didn't he say one of the things he wanted to do, besides relocate, was to go collect his car? -

Apparently you can even report yourself too. If I say something that offends me, I can report my own post to the moderators. And the "share" will give you a link for copy and paste somewhere else. Say you think a post is important and would be useful to someone who started a different thread, you can use "share" to copy it, then you go to the other thread and you can paste it there.

Delete is now called "Hide" makes your post go away. Click on the "triple dots" in the upper right hand corner of your post and you will see the options: Edit, Hide, etc Then just click on hide and your post disappears.
-
There's nothing for you to be on. It's fine the way it is.
-
Which also includes a hide function.

The posting count is a measure of how neurotic and compulsive you are so no-one ought to be boasting about it.

https://www.chevettes.com/ This USED TO BE the Chevette Forum but it is inactive and has been shut down. So if you are posting links to it or searches that show it in the results you are wasting the persons time. I think the answer is simply no, there are no Chevette forums. And the Facebook page is just some weird nonsense with some lowered and highly customized ones.

N Y Times Quote of the Day is By Steve Moskowitz
mike6024 replied to oldcarfudd's topic in General Discussion
Jay Leno used to practice or test out his jokes for his show on Sundays at the Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach. Riding my bike by there once a Rolls Royce was pulling up in front of the place to park. As I rode by it and looked down Jay was behind the wheel. -
Identify the transmission in this Henderson Cyclecar?

When you said motorcycle engine I thought V-Twin. Henderson 1925 De Luxe 1301cc 4 cyl sv -
Yeah why condemn it? Inexpensive transportation for back and forth to work and the store. And it was rear wheel drive which is a major plus to many people.

Other forums use that feature. Reduces storage. But if someone wants their posts merged it's easier to just add to the previous one by editing it and adding text. -
Made me think I need to watch that Movie: Treasure of Sierra Madre again. That was a good movie but haven't watched it in a long time.

Again borrowing from GM owned Isuzu Chevy shoehorned the 1.8 liter clacker under the hood of the Chevette. Rated at a Model T like 54 horsepower you could reach 0-60 MPH in a casual 19.2 seconds. The Diesel Chevette was not about performance but economy. Rated at a 55 MPG on the highway the Chevette Diesel out-econos cars of today like the Prius and Jetta TDI. Not meant for highway use because of its top speed of 81 MPH (going downhill) your Diesel Chevette was the perfect commuter car.

this one is for sale in Canada. I was shocked when I saw it by accident. Never knew such existed. It is 1998, not too new.
