  1. If someone sees what they think might be a deal they may not want to advertise the make model and location since it would be so easy to look it up. That is if you want someone to go look it over for you, not buy it out from under you.
  2. So would this have had an updraft carb? Just asking.
  3. Just click on your name. Find edit profile. Click on that. Then write something in the Member Title box. That's how I over road my Senior Member and changed it back to Junior.
  4. Yes edit profile and fill in the box that says "Member Title" with what you want to appear. It's probably finding the "edit profile" button that is the sticking point. It is in the upper right and has the image of a pencil next to it. In the upper right corner of your "cover photo" to be more precise. "edit profile" tab is next to the same tab you use to upload your cover photo, the "cover photo" tab. Edit Profile Basic Info Member Title
  5. I went from Junior to Senior for no reason that I am aware of, especially being very new here.

  8. Canadian serial numbers and in particular decoding Canadian ID plate data is very difficult for me. I'm on the "wrong" side of the border to find much information on Canadian GMCs, and accordingly, the only place I can really find anything at all is on eBay. Canadian GMC trucks are unique in that the light duty trucks used Chevy engines and GMC wrappers and cosmetics. Heavy duty (and medium duty too) Canadian built GMCs used GMC motors; 270s and 248s for the most part. While the Canadian numbering system and tag contains FAR more information than their American made counterparts, I do not have decoder information for the paint, body, or engine serial numbers on these tags and therefore can decode only the chassis serial number at best. As far as I know, all Canadian GMCs were built in Oshawa, Ontario. Up until '53, the light duty trucks ran Chevy 216s from what I can tell. After that they used Chevy 235s, then GMC 248s and 270s in the late '55 on models. Most of this information is gleaned from reading parts and maintenance manuals, and as always, I welcome anyone who has information that they are willing to share and help others. The purpose of this site is informational and to help people. Scans of helpful information is always welcomed, but seldom received. http://www.oldgmctrucks.com/page0397.html

  10. It would have been more impressive if done in a Gremlin.
  11. In California Pick-n-Pull will sell you a complete car even after it first appears on the yard for $1800, plus or minus. That is very high considering they get most of them for free. So if someone acts quick they might be able to buy the whole thing before it gets stripped. If you wait until after it gets stripped the price to buy the whole thing will be the same. That's how they work, fyi, at least in my region. They get many of their cars from police tows, from both public and private property. If someone moves out of an apartment and leaves a non-running car behind the landlord car call police and they will have Pick-n-Pull or one of the others tow it.
  12. This means remove the wires from the back of the ammeter and connect them together. Brown wires connected to one terminal (going in?) and a brown/white wire on the other terminal coming out. So jump means connect the brown to the brown/white directly. This way if the ammeter is fried you will be bypassing it.
  13. Very interesting topic. Complex engineering dynamics problem they simulated. Here's some info on the computer modelling. http://jalopnik.com/the-james-bond-corkscrew-jump-was-the-first-computer-mo-1711459704 In 1974, Jay Milligan Sr. created the All American Thrill Show sponsored by the American Motors Corporation. The fender banging, car mangling, brake screeching show climaxed with a mid-air, 360 degree barrel roll called the Astro-Spiral. The stunt, designed with help from local Calspan engineers, used an AMC Hornet Hatchback. This was the same maneuver executed by Milligan’s team as Roger Moore’s stunt coordinator in the James Bond film, “The Man with the Golden Gun.” http://www.ecfair.org/blog/erie-county-fair/member-our-fair-family-passes-remembering-walter-jay-milligan-sr/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcc8tQfxV7E - Interview
  14. I think the ammeter has a built in shunt resistor which is probably burned out due to current overload, which would explain why it is pegged at max current discharge. But like was mentioned that would not prevent the car from starting. Do you have a wiring diagram? You have no voltage getting to the coil? Think about what might be burned out by tracing through the wiring diagram how 12 volts should make it's way to the coil, and where the problem may be. And use a volt meter to test at various points along the path. Not sure if this is the correct diagram, it is in pdf format. http://www.mossmotors.com/graphics/products/PDF/357-068.pdf Here is a supposed '52 MG diagram, unreadable though.

  17. Garage kept continuously. Been in our immediate family since new (47 years). Only driven to church and grocery store... like the story goes... Yes the mileage is most likely correct, lots of short trips, not driven daily, and not used for commuting to work.
  18. It looks like there are a few earlier screw-on caps like these two with the J's on them. That is what your are referring to is it not? At least 4 of them in the limited photos posted thus far. It would be nice to sell the regular hubcaps off individually for people to hang on their wall depending on if it is from their favorite make/model, or hang them on the wall of a tavern if you have one. Dented or scraped against the curb takes away almost all value, in most cases anyway.

  20. The date of manufacture is the last four digits of the DOT code. The first two digits are the week of manufacture, and the last two digits are the year. For example, if the last four digits of the DOT code are 0203, that means that the tire was manufactured during the second week of the year 2003. http://www.tirebuyer.com/education/how-to-determine-the-age-of-your-tires For tires manufactured in the year 2000 – present The date of manufacture is the last four digits of the DOT code. The first two digits are the week of manufacture, and the last two digits are the year. For example, if the last four digits of the DOT code are 0203, that means that the tire was manufactured during the second week of the year 2003. Pretty simple, right? However…if your tires were made before 2000, it gets a bit more complicated. For tires manufactured before the year 2000 The date of manufacture is the last three digits of the code. The first two digits refer to the week within that year. For example, if the last 3 digits are 022, it means that the tire was manufactured in the second week of the year, and the year is the second year of the decade. This is where it gets confusing -- there's no universal identifier that signifies which decade, so in this example the tire could have been manufactured in 1982 or 1992. Some tires do have a small triangle following the DOT code to indicate the 1990s. Seeing an incomplete DOT number? If you look at the tires sidewall and see a DOT number that appears to be incomplete, that's because the DOT's current regulations require the entire number to be branded on only one sidewall, while the opposite sidewall is branded with just the first few digits. To see the entire DOT number, just look on the other sidewall.
  21. Cohen, a Sunset Strip Mob kingpin, had been the target of several gunfire bursts during the LA-area gang turmoil of the late 1940s and 50s, so he built himself a one-of-a-kind moving fortress. Said the slick Bugsy Siegel sidekick, “I don’t care about myself, but what am I gonna do, for instance, when my mother comes to visit? I got to drive her around. I get worried about this. You never can tell what some of these crazy guys might try to do. And my wife! I gotta have some protection for the family, don’t I?” (He was concerned not only about his wife, but also his many mistresses with names like “Candy Bar” and “Beverly Hills”.) Cohen caused quite the sensation with his sleek black Caddy when he was asked to appear before Senator Kefauver’s Crime Committee (officially known as the U.S. Senate Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce). He drove up in the $16,000 armor-plated driving machine, practically beaming when asked to describe his ride (which took five months to build). The extras, he proudly pointed out, cost him a cool 10 grand which allowed him to trick out the car with: 1 ¾-inch plate glass windows Bullet-proof tires costing $400 each 8-inch-thick door plating weighing in at 100 pounds each Special armor plates built into both front and rear seats An air conditioning system costing a whopping (at the time) $800 Car enthusiasts loved the additional details: Much of the cost of retrofitting the car went into the windshield set into a base of heavy die cast bronze and made of two thick pieces that opened outward so Cohen could catch a breeze or, as many jested, fire his gun out. Another feature unique to his Cadillac: additional wide trim chrome entirely encircling all the windows of the car. Even the Secret Service agents were impressed, not even the President’s car had all these fine features. http://themobmuseum.org/blog/mickey-cohens-tricked-out-mob-mobile/
  22. Yes it is very faint but if I "mouse over" it becomes easy to read, darkens considerably.
  23. If it was "Mr. Drysdale's Chrysler Imperial from the Beverly Hillbillies" to me that implies it was used in filming the TV shows. It belonged to the fictional Mr. Drysdale.
  24. Some of us are just not that comfortable handing out hearts to other dudes. We are just not that secure in our own masculinity.
