  1. If you donate a low value automobile to charity they will have a towing company pick it up, and it will get auctioned off. It would be like a wholesale auction open to the public, just like when autos that are towed by the police end up getting auctioned. If your donated car is bought at auction by a used car dealer it could end up on a used car lot for sale at a markup to the auction price. If the car you donate is very low value it will go to a wrecking yard. Many of donated cars do not run. Goodwill used to take donated cars and put them in the parking lot of their warehouse with prices on them. But that was too much work, now they just let a towing company get it and auction it off. Obviously the towing company collects a fee and the charity takes what's left. When I first read Nick's post I was not sure what he meant. It doesn't seem he seriously wants to get the car back as he says he has no place to store it anyway. http://www.pbssocal.org/support/vehicle-donation/ Want to get your unused vehicle off your hands and support public media while you’re at it? 3. Park was totally full of cars today. Temperature hit a record for this day of 106 F. There was like 4 times as many cars as back ten years ago. The fee to enter your car was only $40, but they had to turn lots of would be entrants away due to being booked full. Lots of Camaros and Hot Rods with 350 Chevys and superchargers and I tried to avoid picturing them. The White Ford just before the picture of the Rivieras was voted "best original engine."
  4. 1929 DeSoto, Owner Charlene Hunter, AACA Member and Local Chapter, Redwood Empire ( Santa Rosa ), She said it has had an overdrive installed so it can cruise at 50 mph. Next is the Red '24 Buick.
  5. Yeah, the cover photo is a good choice too. Front view for the Avatar, and the long side profile view for the cover photo. Best way to do it imo.
  6. Now get a "cover" photo uploaded. Cover photos appear when you hover your cursor over someone's name. You can see i have one, though there is no avatar.
  7. Fascinating, how it is done with 2D pictures from many angles, and no laser range measurement. My dentist made a crown for my molar in-house, by taking photos of the ground down nub and the opposing teeth and feeding that into a CNC (Computerized milling machine). Crown was carved out of a block of porcelain by a diamond tipped bit and fit perfect the first time. Surveying companies are going crazy with their laser scanners now. They are scanning all sorts of things that you would not think need to be scanned but there are customers willing to pay for it. The entirety of John Muir's house, a historical place, was scanned inside and out, in case it burns down they will have a record of all dimensions precisely. They are also scanning freeway abutments just to keep a record and scan at a later time to see what shifting has occurred.
  8. Here is the new advertisement, $10k and I'd assume you can make an offer. Brentwood, which is east of San Francisco. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/6151004702.html 1939 Buick it turns on but will need work . I don't know much about the car it belong to my brother-in-law and he's he is in the hospital so if somebody is serious and want to come and take a look at the car you guys are more than welcome . $10,000.
  9. If it is the same as a '57 T-Bird then there is this for $100 plus $20 shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FAA18476A-HEATER-CORE-1952-56-FORD-CROWN-VICTORIA-55-57-THUNDERBIRD-REPRO-/400725188711?_trksid=p2385738.m2548.l4275 I would hook up the hoses to bypass the old heater core and remove it and take measurements and/or picture, assuming you haven't removed it already? Inlet and outlet tubing diameter, spacing between the tubes, and overall height, width and depth so it will fit. See if the basic configuration looks like this T-Bird heater core.
  10. Thank you! This is a '26 from another thread - http://forums.aaca.org/topic/169453-value-of-1926-graham-brothers-truck/
  11. It seems the seller doesn't know what the first truck is. I said it looks like a dump truck. It doesn't look like a flatbed to me, looks like it has low sides, like some more modern pickups with a dump bed that city maintenance uses. I also said it looks like a military truck. Here's what the seller said: Hi, Not military, not sure about the dump. Any idea of the range of possible years?
  12. Seller didn't over-exert himself taking excellent pictures.
  13. At first glance I was thinking Flatbed Farm Truck, but no, it's a dump truck, probably Military?
  14. Make and Model unknown. It says 1920 Ford though. I am curious if anyone can pin it down better? https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/6165577319.html I have 2 very old Vintage trucks, both in terrible shape, not sure what year, they are both rotting on an old farm, $300 each OBO. Serious inquiries only show to per-qualified buyers by appointment only.

  16. They (the metal railings) are designed to peel away from the posts they are mounted on and to curl up into a helix or corkscrew to absorb energy. In California CalTrans was getting sued for using rails that did not meet engineering standards because they were too strong and went straight into the passenger compartment instead of curling up. But there's so many variables. If your vehicle hits the end of the metal rail it is supposed to curl, not glance upward and go through the windshield. In several graphic cases, reported by ABC's 20/20, the guardrail speared straight through the vehicle, severing motorists' legs, instead of safely curling away from the vehicle and its passengers as designed.
  17. Do the plugs have to be drilled out, and then new ones made? Here's how an Alfa Romeo crank is, aluminum plugs press fit, you pound them in and then supposedly "stake" them in place, though I don't know what that means, maybe hit them with a punch? And you can also tap the holes and use a set screw with thread locker (LOCKTITE) Most crankshafts are "cross-drilled" to carry pressurized oil to the bearings. The only way to create a gallery through the crankshaft is by drilling it. The "holes" were access holes for the drilling, as the gallery interconnects within the crankshaft. The drill access "holes" were factory plugged with aluminum plugs. With Alfa's, it has been found that sometimes, not often, these aluminum plugs will come out and allow the pressurizes oil to escape from an unintended area. On Alfa engine rebuilding, it becomes an optional procedure to drill out the aluminum plugs, and tap the drill access hole for a screw-in type plug as shown above. The plugs are usually sealed with Loctite Red, preventing them from unscrewing. To remove them for gallery cleaning, heat needs to be applied, directly to the cap plug, with a torch. They then can be removed. Threading for these in a hardened crankshaft, can be difficult, and break taps. The easiest way is to grind through the hardening with a die grinder before attempting to tap. The hardening is usually about .020" thick. Even then, this requires some patience, as the crankshaft is still a hard forging. The reason this is not done by factories is a matter of time and labor. Also, for most applications, the OEM aluminum plugs are adequate.
  18. That's a great deal for correct reproduction seat covers that should be easy to install yourself. http://www.corvair.com/user-cgi/catalog.cgi?show_page=265 Part number C6225: UPHOLSTERY-66 FULL BUCKET, Price: $ 173.40
  19. Definitely. This is a MK I Midget. The yellow one I posted above is a MK II. Has that part of the body that goes inward near the top rear of the door. I like the green MK II Sprite, and if I didn't already have an Alfa, might want one. But wouldn't fit in it, an Alfa has much more leg room.
  20. I think we all should drive less and enjoy it more. Refuse to take jobs that require long commutes, fighting traffic jams on the freeway. Ride the bus to work if you can. Preferably work close to home. Some young people want the bicycle to be their only vehicle, and they make it work. One thing I don't like is seeing our beautiful winding back roads clogged by speeding aggressive drivers. When I was driving along the coast recently, coming home from work at a custom home construction down the coast, I was tailgated and passed over a double yellow line by an entitled individual in a new Mercedes SUV even though I was already going well over the posted speed limit. If I want to enjoy a nice weekend drive to the coast I need to do it on a weekday because it is clogged with tourists on the weekend. Of course if you live out in the sticks where traffic is a non-issue that's different. Maybe that's what I should do, move.
  21. Maybe it is a Sprite, newer than a Bugeye though. MG Midget.
  22. I do not know the British sports cars well at all. I went to buy a '69 Alfa parts car from a guy a while back and he had at least a dozen British cars parked in his field including at least 2 Bugeye. If I were more of a hoarder instead of just a modest hoarder I would have brought one of them home as well.
  23. Yeah, but it better not be a bugeye. At first I was thinking maybe just a fiat 1500 '65 spider based on the rear fender, but then I saw the windshield and I thought Sprite.
  24. Here's some pics from our local Father's Day car show. A mix of stock, custom and rods. Everyone seems to get along. I think I'll go to the next one this Sunday and take some pics of my favorites. https://www.facebook.com/pg/Fathers-Day-Show-Shine-Car-Show-692138374167670/photos/
