  1. Ed, I never asked. I figured it was either original OEM. Which would make it in short supply as it is not being made anymore. Or they were having it reproduced as the original was. Being that there is such a small market for this it would be very expensive to have it reproduced. Bill
  2. Ed, You are welcome. I am very happy with my belts. I can tell you that for me the correct dated tags were $25 each extra. 8 tags for a complete set of 4 belts. I had them put them only on the front belts as they would not be seen on the rear belts. OEM webbing was an extra $100 per seat belt set for an added $400. Prices might be different a year later. I have attached a picture of the webbing. The top web is the OEM style. The bottom web is the style they would use as part of the refurbishment with no extra charge. Not a lot of difference and there are probably not very many people out there that would not know the difference. Bill
  3. Ed, You may want to reconsider not going to SSnake-Oyl. I had 4 sets of belts for my 1963 completely refurbished by them last spring. The price they quoted was very reasonable. In fact it was cheaper than what it would have cost me just to have the buckles and anchors rechromed on my own. It included disassembly, rechroming all buckles & anchors, new webbing and of course reassembly. They have an inventory of seat belt parts, labels, stickers etc. in case you should need them. New webbing was included in the refurbished price. Where I paid extra was in having correct date coded labels added and for webbing added exactly as original. They will only do as little or as much as you want them to. If you have only a couple of pieces that need rechroming the cost would be reduced substantially. They may even have pieces in stock that could be purchased more cheaply than to have your pieces rechromed. Another bonus is the fact that these people do this for a living and know all the ins and outs of the process to make sure things are done correctly and up to specs. I found them very easy to work with and even had a couple of conversations with the owner. Customer satisfaction is at the top of their list. Bill

  5. I had this issue several years ago. I proceeded to find a 2-speed motor/washer and had it rebuilt to replace mine. Not a job I relished tackling so the motor still sits on a shelf. I rarely, if ever drive in the rain so it was a non-issue until this summer. I had no choice but to use them as I drove into heavy rain on 2 separate occasions coming back from out of state car shows. To my amazement the wipers shut off both times. They did not shut off immediately but, did a few more passes, shut off and parked. Still debating whether to replace the motor or leave well enough alone. The Chassis and Body manuals are your friends. There is a relay in the motor. I have attached copies of what the chassis manual says in regards to this issue. I have also attached a copy of the service bulletin Buick put out in regards to the wiper motor removal. You can follow this procedure or remove the fender. Bill
  6. Paul Harvey obviously did not dig hard enough. He stopped at chapter 2. Here is chapter 3. The good guy always gets the girl.
  7. The Carter number is 3503S in the Master Chassis Parts Book for 401 with automatic. It also lists a 3578S for 425 with automatic. The 1963's with automatic also came with the Rochester 4GC which is number 7023143. These may be easier to find. I have a Rochester on my 1963 and have no complaints. If you want the full scoop on both carbs talk to Jon aka "carbking" on the forum. He will answer phone calls on Monday & Tuesday 9-4 central time, 573-392-7378. He will give you an unbiased report on them both. I have done this and he is very forthcoming and informative. Bill

  9. Steve, That is some really great information. Nice tips for rejuvenating tired parts without breaking the bank. Your pieces look great. I have used a file as Steve suggested to remove burrs caused by pitting on pieces I have rejuvenated for sale or rejuvenating for others. It really makes a difference and can make a rough looking piece look great again. I picked up a set of files a few years ago that really works nicely to deburr pitting. Many different shapes and sizes. I have done all of the above pieces on my car. I found that pinstriping tape really works nicely to mask off the chrome ribs on these pieces when painting. Another alternative for the paint used to do these pieces is Rust-Oleum 7277830 Metallic Matte. It is very easy to work with, dries fast, goes on smooth, cheap and readily available at any number of local stores. I even used this on my Turbines when getting them ready to put on my car. Bill

  12. I had my wheel professionally restored last year. He was very thorough and even used "rebar" for lack of a better term to span wide cracks before filling to keep them from expanding further. He told me the worst enemy for a steering wheel restored or original is the heating, cooling, expansion and contraction. He strongly suggested to me that if I want to keep my wheel looking as nice as it does now is to remove the wheel when I store it for the winter and keep it in the house. Maybe overkill but, I took his advice and have and will remove it from now on. Bill
  13. I was just notified by Diamond Back Tires that they are offering free shipping for the month of February on their Auburn Premium tires. The code is: FREEFEB. If you were thinking of getting tires from them this would be the time. Money saved can be spent on something else for that Riviera. I know shipping was over $100 when I got mine this last spring. Bill
  14. Tom is correct to a point. There is enough slack to do this but, barely. Buick must have been on a cost saving kick when doling out the wire for the clock. An extra 2 inches of wire would have been very helpful. Not too bad disconnecting. Reconnecting was a different story. Much colorful language was used when reinstalling after a conversion to a quartz movement. Jim's suggestion to remove the dash pad might be the least frustrating as far as the clock goes. However, removing the dash pad could present a challenge in itself if it has not been removed in awhile or if the windshield has been removed and they got over zealous with sealant when putting the windshield back in. Bill
  15. The quarter window leading edge weatherstrip should be inside the door window glass. Just out of curiosity, who did you buy your door weatherstrip from? It may be a case of the weatherstrip needing some time to conform/compact in its new location. I know this happens frequently with new trunk weatherstrip where the trunk lid is very difficult to close at first. After some time and use it eventually will conform and compact to where it will shut normally. Get your doors shut and leave them that way for a few days to see what happens. Make sure the plastic anchor pins are all the way in as far as they will go. I know when I put my door weatherstrip in I would find anchor pins that seemed to be in all of the way but, were not. Bill
  16. Bilstein makes the shocks for our 1st generation but, does not sell them so to speak. You have to buy them from a distributor which in this case is George Hussey. He advertises in the Riview. dr914 is his handle on the Forum. He is the one that persuaded Bilstein to make them for our 1st generation cars. Tom Telesco (telriv) also sells them but, I believe he buys them from George. As stated earlier in the thread 55-R101 are the fronts and 55-410 are the rears for standard height cars. The 55-R102 are rears for "lowered" Rivieras. I do not know if a version for lowered cars is made for the front. I would call George and talk to him about the different shocks available. I talked to him when I bought shocks for my 1963 and he was very helpful. Bill
  17. I will send you a message. Bill
  18. I went to the same site and if you look at Bob's post both say they are on factory back order. Bill
  19. Hi Tom, That is your picture. You sent me a couple of pictures, that being one of them, when I was inquiring about the black and silver hood medallion you had. I looked at mine and it is a solid post like the one in your picture with a cut nut. Bill
  20. I am reaching out to the Forum to see if anyone has the mounting post for the 1963 hood medallion. I have 2 different people that are in search of one. They both live overseas and so their resources are limited. I have reached out to several vendors and come up empty. If anyone has one or two that they would like to sell please let me know. Thanks. Bill
