  1. Interesting that yours appear to show wear on the outer bronze, mine didn’t when I had it apart - don’t know if it’s down to different geometry
  2. My car was in Falconi’s Cadillac for what I can gather was a long time, mechanically a number of things show very little wear but things like the foot pedals have almost all there checkering worn off

  4. Our 26 also leaked on from the rear hubs until we went through and redid all the grease and lube - from memory there is also a screw that it will weep from I'm not entirely sure why Buick didn't go with the same approach as Cadillac and use a 3:1 ratio of 600WT to Grease
  5. Even then, E10 is mostly a NSW/QLD thing - only been fairly recent that you even see it in Victoria. I just put normal 91 in my Cadillac and the Golf gets 98 I'm surprised that the Chev had a rubber fuel line in 25, wouldn't it have originally been metal? You can also make a test light that turns on when the points are in firing position, I made one with a long enough cable that I could see it while cranking the car over
  6. I need the title to export my Cadillac 5 years ago, and to an outsider it’s such a poor system. We have a nation wide system to register financial interest against a vehicle (like a loan) and then ownership disputes are a civil matter

  8. Like lots of things they have their place, some things they’re great for and then other things they’re more expensive than target/costco etc. Nobody else was even remotely close price wise
  9. I just looked for sub 100k cars that were pre 1950 and 7 passenger, there’s definitely a few choices in there that offer varying levels of project

  13. I have to say that they seem very expensive for what they are, Amazon surprisingly was by far the cheapest at about 70 bucks a bearing
  14. Following on from the earlier post about how do we find parts for old cars I thought I’d share my experience from today…. I had an issue with my brakes jamming on and I decided it was time to pull it all apart and clean everything out. Everything looked in decent serviceable condition until I got to the bearings, one of which had a crack in a roller and the other was very worn with a noticeable lip on it So what to do? How do I find replacement bearings for a 100 year old car where the parts book doesn’t identify anything about them? Turns out it was rather simple, I cleaned them up and noticed that the bearing and cup were stamped with a part number from Timken - checked their online guide and found that while the design has changed to a more modern type, their part numbers hadn’t changed and all of the measurements lined up with part number from over 100 years ago. Jumped on Amazon and ordered 4 of them, coming from the US in 3 weeks Sometimes you get lucky with the part search

  16. Would also suggest buying tyre pliers from the period, much easier and safer for changing tyres - I tried it using the bar and a screw drivers originally and it took a long time (and seemed super sketchy). Using the pliers they were done in about 10 minutes
  17. That’s caused by something known as EXIF data embedded within the photo, basically it’s a piece of meta data that tells software the rotation of the image. What sometimes happens is that depending on the camera and where you’re using the image it will essentially tell the software to rotate an already rotated photo. There are a couple of tools that will remove the rotation meta data so it doesnt happen but I think (from memory) if you rotate it all the way around in the default picture viewer in windows it will remove the metadata and stop messing with the rotation What’s also “great” about the air springs is how many are mislabeled for their application just because they look similar…

  19. It’s never really been a brand here either The other thing to remember with power tools is that a lot of badge engineering goes on (sometimes with just changes to make them incompatible with each other) e.g. go and look at what TTI owns
  20. Metal cable ties are particularly nasty in my experience, have cut my fingers up bad with those
  21. The top cover is interchangeable between most of the non balanced engines, though Cadillac obviously realized it was a problem as they reinforced it every model year - mine is from a slightly earlier car that doesn’t have as much reinforcement around the generator
  22. Mechanical stuff you can mostly find something that will work, modify or make - it’s the interior pieces and visual items that seem to present the biggest challenge
  23. They look like they’re aluminium so with the material change you’d think they would incorporate some improvements like that but I guess this way they can’t be wrong
  24. This is what happens with the Cadillac v8’s of that vintage if you have a stuck valve (the seller claimed a ‘minor’ ticking sound)
