  1. I can only answer this for the Fast Four Dodge Brothers cars series 128/129 only with 108 inch wheel base which I have owned and driven as daily cars for the past 37 years , the sedan being a heavy car a road speed of 45 mph was ok ,you could go faster but with this heavy car you put to much pressure on the bearings (I replaced a few on the side of the road ). The tourer is much lighter car some 600 to 700 lbs which would allow 45 to 50 mph on good road at the most with out any worry, the buckborad ute is even lighter and can do 50 mph but I prefer to stay around 45 to 48 mph where the engine feels ok. All of the above is with standard gear ratio diffs (4.2 on 21 inch wheels) and are all 4 wheel brake cars. I find also fuel economy is best at around 45 mph. I know the add for these cars say that they can do " a mile a minute " 60 miles per hour but to drive at that speed you will be waiting for many things to start flying apart : engine ,tyers ,rims wood wheels etc, air to the side or safety drive slower and pick the roads that can allow you to do this . enjoy Bob
  2. There are two ball check valves in the base of the air valve that act as a damper control on the air valve , this is to allow extra fuel ( like a accelerating pump ) when the throttle is opened suddenly. The valves can only be removed if the air valve is taken apart, the balls are held in by brass pins.
  3. This could be the tail light that would fit a 1924 model .
  4. Is this a 6 or 8 cylinder car ?
  5. My Big Six hand book says it turns ccw and also the manual and the electrical manual shows ccw on all big six engines, are reading the 8 cylinder manual which says cw for the rotation. The big six dissy is driven off the front of the camshaft which rotates opposite to the crank so it will turns ccw also.bob
  6. How much free play do you have in the wheel at the center point , you must allow at least 1inch on the wheel outer diameter or binding will result. You should never attempt to turn the wheel with the tyers on the ground unless the car is moving, this way to much strain on the box which was it is not designed to do,only turn the wheel when moving. Bob
  7. I will have a look tomorrow and see what specs are for the carb and what gauge rod it to be used and see if I have one . Bob
  8. Ok how about some pics of this , the output end of the field coil goes to ground through the field fuse. From what I can make of your statement you are talking about the third and its holder. Do you mean that the third brush holder shorted to ground ?, some pics would make things easer Bob
  9. Are you sure about those sizes , I think you mean 1/8 and 1/4 npt . 3/8 is about 3/4 inch across the outside and 1/2 inch is about 1 inch across the outside .
  10. Ok what is the voltage at the coil , if to low engine will fire bout not run .2 Have you replaced the condenser , bad one will let engine start but not run . 3 Ignition timing out of order. bob
  11. Ron for all the years that I had my cars I have never found any manuals for Fast Four, Standard Six , Victory Six and Seniors but that does not mean that we can not find some information for you from my text books and copy it for you . Will be in my library over the next week and if there is any thing you need let me know and I will see what I can find. Bob
  12. Steve I can give you the advance information for the Marmon and Pierce Arrow and may be cap and roter numbers for them , will try latter to night Bob
  13. Steve I will go through some books latter tonight for more information . regards Bob
  14. Ian during the day I get you the dimensions from my originals, also there is a fellow in Sydney that does make new ones ,will get you details also. There is very little information on these cars but ask what you need to know after 38 years of having 128/9s I will be able to dig up something for you . Bob
  15. the Marmon 8 cyclinder of 1929 and 1930 used a 652D dist, may be some Marmon owners may have a 652B in there spare parts box and do not know what it fits . Just a possible path to go down , stranger things do happen .Bob
  16. Ant possible thought to early electric car body ,may be Detroit,or Baker,Milburn. Just a thought Bob
  17. Ian they will come out of the axle in both ways , is the axle out of the car ,if so put under a press ,if not you will have to make a screw press up that clamps the bottom to top than screw down on the pin to push them out. They are plain 3/4 inch about 5 inches long . Bob
  18. What is under the taped end of the tube going towards the rim?. Bob
  19. I would suspect the tube connects to the tyre valve to supply air pressure to the rocker arm in side the drum ,as the wheel rotates the rocker strikes " something " that may be a distance counter ?. Just my thoughts , it is a good one . Any one else with any ideas. Bob
  20. Thanks Bob I did not have my books at home this morning to take the numbers from as they were at work. Bob
  21. The motor and body in pics is a 27 to 28 series 124, the frame will be 116 in long , the 'd' motor with carb on right side will have single plate clutch and sae shift gearbox . The frame number is missing two digits ,one a number and the letter A before the 11- in the number above. The engine number will be about 50 000 ahead of the frame number. If more info needed ask Bob
  22. The Standard Six and Victory engines do not have oil seals , the have a oil slinger at each end of the crank, the rear into a housing that drains to the sump and the front a cup shaped that throws to a recess in the front cover. Just rebuilt a six of late . Bob
