  1. Ray the cutout is automatic switch between the battery and the generator, as the generator comes up to speed and charge out put the relay closes and connects the battery to the generator,now when the motor stops this relay automaticly disconects the battery from the generator ,if this does not happen than the battery will discharge through the generator ( and could cause damage to the generator ) resulting in a flat battery. If a fuse was in this line and burn out than the generator would have no means of voltage control and could cause a very high voltage to generated and burn out most of the electric circuits of the car(lights ,coil etc). In the third brush generator system the battery acts as voltage regulatorand UNDER NO CONDUITION WHEN THE MOTOR IS RUNNING IS TO BE DISCONEGTED FROM THE GENERATOR. This system is called a constant current charging system . The current is controled by the action of the third brush in the generator to distort the magnet field and as speed incresses the out put decresses. Hope this helps ,more info if needed regards bob
  2. This is the ignition coil and switch for Dodge Brothers 1928 Senior, Victory,Standard and FastFour,also is the Briggs &Stration keys for comparision and the Holden Ignition switch as stated in previous post . regards Bob

Aussie John I gather that you want to restore on and use it in the car, the coil is housed in a die cast unit with the switch which is behind the dash .Most of them fell apart but I have some still intact or part there of . I use a FJ Holden ignition as the front bezzel is the same shape as the Briggs on used on 128 cars and than a stanard coil under the dash. Can take some pic and post them in a day or so ,should have factory pics some where, will find them also .If you want to use one the coil may need to be rewound, will look tomorrow and post them Regards Bob

  6. Henery , first off where are you in NSW, I am on the far north coast of NSW . I have had fast fours for the past 38 years and will be able to help you with what you are after . What have got of Dodge Brothers Fast Four parts at the moment to build this car from.Pics and infomation are no problem to supply. If you PM me your details I will be glad to help.
  7. Chapter Four of the book that I listed above confirms your coments on the sedan production . Quote " The "lineup " of cars did not change much until the 1917 model year, when Dodge Brothers increased the wheel base on all its models from 110 inches to 114 inches and added a coupe and a two-door sedan, both priced at$1,265. Their center door sedan seated five passengers, but was not popular. The two passenger coupe looked much like the roadster,but like the sedan had wire wheels instead of the standard artillery type wheels found found on the other models ". Also within this chapter is given the body makers that Dodge Brothers were using in these first years , eg Budd, Wilson Carriiage Company, Dodge Brothers them selves, so it is possible to conclude that a " sedan body " closed door type could have been built prior to the two door sedan production by Dodge Brothers .   9. Ray I see if I can find some pic that were taken some thirty years ago of these bumpers and put them up soon . I seam to always get the "o"and " e" mixed up , good pick up .Bob
  10. I can only coment on the late 20's Dodge brothers cars (25 to 28 ) that most were sold with out bumpers and these were dealer "options" aviable at extra cost ( seen adds stating this ) . Of the five 128/9 cars that I have had only two of them had bumpers , the first, a tourer had bumpers that were made in Sydney , the car was sold by Standardised Moters Ltd in late 27 and they are of the same design as yours are Ray, the second was the sedan that was fully inported from the U.S. which had bumpers like the pics above . All the other cars had no bumpers. Bob

If one is to read the book The Dodge Brothers, The Men,The Motor Cars and The Legacy by Charles K Hyde on pages 72 to 75 one will get the answer to the above question on the car in the picture that is shown in front of John Dodges's Boston Boulevard home on November 14th. In short the car shown is likely to be a experimental car made several months before Nov 14 and not a production car . "Automobile Topics " of October 1914 reports that Dodge Brothers had several "test cars "on the road ," Automobile Topics" Nov 7 had exclusive sneak preview with pictures of cars taken in early November. All these early cars had three louvers on each side of the hood and the production sold to the public did not. There is a lot more information in the book. Best to read a copy. Bob
  12. Just thinking about for a while, you may have a bad condensor also ,these will give the same sort of problem . regards Bob
  13. Some thing to check is if the air valve is rising as put on the gas ,if the air valve is not rising free it will give symptons similar to what has been discribed above. I have had this happen before and found gum or dirt build up in the dash port , you have to take the air valve apart to clean it and make sure the two check valves in the base of the dash port are free also. regards Bob
  14. Henry , the victory six gear box is the same as used on a fast four but the bell housings are a differant size. The fast four housing much larger than the six . Any questions please ask . regards Bob
  15. The book Dodge Brothers / Budd Company Historical Photo Albulm , John R Veilliky/ jean Maddern Pitrone in the section on proto types show several cars of this type . Some are full body ,some half body and there is some compleate cars that were used to test public recaction. Budd had also used full size clay and timber models from the late teens , will do more reserch to find exact date. Bob
  16. Just a idea , has any one checked to see if this could be one of the Budd prototype bodies that were made to evaluate the production possibilites of a style before the production began.Would be very rare if is and should be preserved. Bob
  17. I would contact your local Dept of Transport to find out what their requirements are to these brake lines are . Here in Australia if your car was manifactured with copper lines than it is ok to use them in your restoration again. Your DMT will tell you whar is required in your country. Bob

Ron if you are trying to be a smart ass ,this dosent buy with me.As a person of knowiedge that i thought you would be you would know that the fast four gear box and diff ( all be it the ratio 4.2 ) was the same as the Senior . There 14 gearboxes and 12 diff that you could have had for nothing if any of you bothered to reply, now who is the one that has been ripped off.
  20. just a note for those who care all 38 tone of 128 parts went to simms metal at a price of $100 ton , at least I will be able to eat today and pay my rent.

  22. the frame is veteran Dodge Brothers between 1917 and 1921 after which they changed to semi elepitic springs. bob
  23. The engine is is a 124 or 128 motor , the 124 prefix is " d " and the 128 is the number " 1 " . These engines are used in the 1927 and 1928 cars ,they are the last 4 cyclinder engines used by Dodge Brothers .
  24. Thank you for the response to this thread , as such there is no interest or value in these cars 35 ton of 128/129 parts and cars will now be destroyed.
