  4. The low-optioned Series 62 and successor Calais were popular travel-trailer tow cars in the early 1970's when I worked at a campground in the Colorado mountains while in college. They would arrive from Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas driven by folks who were by then finally prosperous Depression-era survivors who allowed themselves the Cadillac they'd long coveted but still frugal so a Calais was Cadillac enough. Not surprisingly, most did spring for air conditioning, but no other frivolous power options.
  5. If the Depression wasn't enough of a challenge for the smaller independent automakers, Hupmobile had one crooked, crazy one on its board: Archie Andrews!

  7. Taller section height was a hallmark of Flxible, the professional car coachbuilder. The reason was to provide more headroom for the attendants in the ambulance tending to a patient. That additional section height extended forward through the cowl and hood. It was functional but does render an odd appearance. The building practice extended to hearses and flower cars such as this 1941 Cadillac as well. http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/f/flxible/flxible.htm
  8. Glad you gentlemen figured this out, it was vexing me what that sedan was.
  9. No evidence of a cab on this before, it was essentially a tractor, used by a small airport to fuel up private aircraft.
  10. Ford supplied the cars for 'Green Acres" Oliver Wendell Douglass drove in succession gold metallic with eggshell white interior 1965, 1966 and 1967 Lincoln Continental convertibles, then 1969 and 1970 Mercury Marquis convertibles. The Monroe brothers drove a 1946-'48 Ford station wagon. Mr. Kimble, the screwball county agent a Bronco roadster after the first season when he drove a Jeep CJ. Lisa Douglass's mother arrived in a 1967 Lincoln Continental limousine by Lehmann and Petersen. Oddly enough, Mr. Haney's truck was a '20's Dodge. Various other characters have arrived in a 1952-'53 Ford sedan. Ebb, the hired hand, had a Model A roadster on one show. ME TV has been showing 'Green Acres' every evening, its the first time I've seen it since I was a kid.
  11. It is a 1941 Cadillac flower car by Flxible, the professional car coachbuilder. Flxible worked primarily on Buick chassis, though did some on Cadillac. Their cars are easy to identify by the taller sides, they actually added section height to their cars, most noticeable in the hood as compared to the regular production models of the same make.
  12. 8 volts are a band-aid curer for not having the 6 volt electrical system in good condition: clean, tight, corrosion and tarnish connections, 00 ground cables, good wiring harness throughout.
  13. Archaic is the term you're looking for, tall enough to accommodate top hat formality, landaulette quarters for the gentile gentry to 'take the air' while being chauffeur on their social rounds. A holdover ethic from 20-30 years prior, rendered by Brunn with all the quality Mrs. Cates would demand.
  14. This '66 Calais is the B-pillared hardtop sedan, shared the body with Buick Electra and Oldsmobile 98 Luxury Sedan. The telltale is the roof quarter, they're a more formal style with less rake than the four door hardtop Sedan de Ville.

  20. Scam! Flag it! That same guy has been pulling that with Packards all over Craigslist.
  21. Everything that goes up in size for the general market, comes down in size for the general market. Sure, there will still be big payload capacity and crew hauling trucks, just they won't be the luxury passenger trucks they've become for the general public, they'll recede to the company and work truck segment again...where they belong.
