  1. 1951 Oldsmobile 98 Deluxe sedan - Cleveland, OH https://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/d/cleveland-1951-oldsmobile-98/7149266245.html You are viewing a "Rare" 1951 Oldsmobile 98 Deluxe 4-door Sedan. This three owner 98 was built and sold in Kansas City, Missouri. Spending the first 25 years of it's existence it was owned by a gentleman farmer who only used the car on weekends and traveling. After the gentleman farmer passed away in the early 1970's the 98 still very original with only 24,000 miles on it was passed down to his son who lived here in Cleveland, Ohio. The 98 sat in his garage till 1976 when a well respected longtime National Oldsmobile Club member who is known for his high quality early 50's Oldsmobile' s bought the 98. At this time he decided to restore the 98 to a high quality show standard restoration changing only one thing, the Olds was originally Dove Gray with the top being Flint Gray. He decided to have the 98 painted Otsego Blue with the top being Serge Blue which is a much more original stunning color combination!!The Olds at this time was also gone over mechanically from bumper to bumper sparing no expenses. After the 98 was restored the second owner enjoyed driving and showing the car, winning top major awards at national and regional shows. I first seen the 98 back in 1979 where I became very fond of it. At this time I also became very acquainted with the second owner and after 37 years of enjoying the 98 he decides to sell this well preserved mostly original Olds. At this time the 37 year old restoration with now 71,000 miles on it is showing minimal cosmetic wear, the chrome and stainless steel trim still looks like new. The seats, headliner, steering wheel, dashboard and window trim is still in outstanding original condition. The carpet which was replaced years ago along with the door panels which were professionally restored has held up very well as you can see in the photos!! Since I've owned the car it's been mechanically kept up, Since I've owned the car I've done the following, complete tune up, rebuilt carb, flushed coolant, check the front end, exhaust, brakes, shocks and rear end. I've also installed four brand new P235/75R/15 Diamond Back Classic Wide Whitewall Radials. Also shown on the 98 is the period correct Oldsmobile factory simulated spoke wheel covers. This 69 year old Oldsmobile runs and rides just like the day it was built. The Olds is also equipped with a host of factory options including Deluxe interior trim, heater, super deluxe signal seeking radio, clock, back up lights, two-tone paint, whitewall tires, dual side view mirrors, day nite rear view mirror, deluxe full wheel covers, full carpet and side window shades. Buyer is fully responsible for all shipping cost for this vehicle. 2. I recall seeing this '53 New Yorker at various shows, its as wonderfully preserved and original as one is likely to find.
  3. 1937 FEDERAL Tow Truck - $8900 - Pueblo, CO https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/d/pueblo-1937-federal-tow-truck/7146514129.html Find another one? Super cool, super rare. Complete and untouched for decades. Its like the old boy just stepped out of it in 1952... His flashlight is still attached to the steering column. All 4 of his lug wrenches are still in the toolbox. (Before they had 4 ways). The belt and chain driven winch was added at some point and it has a much larger radiator. Still retains the original hand cranks for engine as well as Weaver hoist. The missing side tool box door is in the bad as well as the rear cab missing panel. Its all there. I know the rear tires roll for sure as I towed it home 5 blocks on them. I believe the front wheels turn/roll as well. Check out those huge hooks on front frame rails!! These boys weren't playing. Can only imagine all the stories this truck has to tell. There is an axle and eye bolt attached to chain on boom. No idea why but obviously put there for a reason. The name FEDERAL is on both running board mat as well as rear panel. The cab has tilt out windshield, a fan, spot light and (Count them....) SIX levers!!! Truck is truly as bad ass as the man that operates it. I'm willing to help load onto your transport. I may also possibly deliver within a 500 mile radius of Pueblo. No,,,, the truck does not run or drive. Its been parked for decades!!!! A true time capsule back to a simpler time. I have many pics to share. I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1937 FEDERAL Tow Truck.

  5. 1936-'48 Lincoln semi-unit-bodies were painted uniformly throughout the outside body color including the cowls, which are rarely color changed during subsequent resprays.
  6. Take a closer look at the color of the cowl, which is the original body color, its a silver-gray metallic. With a dark green interior and black top, that was one striking Lincoln convertible new.
  7. Adjusted the aspect ratio, now it looks like a Stutz LeBaron town car, not a Ford Model A.
  8. Lockheed shift change pick up cars included a Cord 810 Westchester - blackout?
  9. 1979 Lincoln Versailles - $4400 - Essex, CT https://hartford.craigslist.org/ctd/d/essex-1979-lincoln-versailles/7147278604.html 1979 Lincoln Versailles. Born in Wayne, NJ for the Boston sales office, this car was originally purchased new by George from Old Saybrook, CT, who put the lion's share of the 52,000 miles on it. In 1988 it was then bought by John and Joan of Essex, CT who drove it roughly 12K miles and then Herb, also in Essex, acquired the car in 2000 and has driven about 5000 miles in the last 20 years. Herb has maintained full registration and insurance on the car and has done regular maintenance such as oil changes, tires, shocks; recently it had a new gas tank installed and exhaust work. The Versailles was brought into the Lincoln line (from the Mercury Monarch/Ford Grenada line) as a way to compete with Cadillac and their new mid sized cars and to help with fuel mileage ratings. The Versailles stood out from it's Ford brethren with the use of special vinyl roof options, 4 wheel disc brakes, isolated shock absorbers, "matched and balanced" drivetrain components and a heightened quality control regimen, among other things. It was also the first production car to have clear coat paint. This car still has it's original Diamond Blue Iridescent Metallic paint, but the aforementioned clear coat has crazed, the leather Wedgewood Blue bucket seats and interior is in near mint condition, along with the Cartier clock. This has a Cavalry Twill Coach vinyl top, also in Diamond blue. The AM/FM/MPX 8 track stereo works well as do the other accoutrements such as power windows, power door locks, power driver seat, remote mirror, cruise control, accent lights. The Air Conditioning is currently NOT operational. The 302 V8 puts it's 133 HP through a Ford C4 auto transmission and out to a Ford 9" rear end, set with 2.47 gears, to maximize fuel efficiency.. The car runs and drives as it did in 1979 and may respond to some color sanding and polishing to bring the paint back. They made 21,007 Versailles in 79 and only 50,000 total, so you won't see too many out and about. If you're looking for a fun, luxurious sedan to cruise in and an inexpensive way into the auto-enthusiast world, here's your chance.Asking price is only $4400. Questions, for many more photos and video, to schedule test drive/viewing, or to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks for the interest. Contact: Copy and paste into your email: 284fb07d3e533ed7a7a58ea37070427a@sale.craigslist.org I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1979 Lincoln Versailles. No brickbats, please.
  10. A '63 Mercury Meteor Colony Park station wagon drives the streets of Mayberry in an episode or two of The Andy Griffith Show. Ford supplied the cars, of course. Seeing those episodes decades later reminded me of cars I'd forgotten about completely.
  11. Walt, That was a great article you wrote on J.T. Cantrell and Company, should be required reading for all who are interested in early station wagon body companies. By the way, was there any documentation how they disposed of all the cut-away two door coach and coupe body sections? One supposes Cantrell were the primary go-to source for Metro NYC body repair shops when they had need of such for a Chevy that had been rear-end.
  12. The rising tide no longer lifts all boats...
  13. Concise explanation of the economic corner into which we have painted ourselves. Generations of demands for ever cheaper goods with quality relegated to secondary or tertiary consideration have produced the results they ultimately were destined to. It was only abetted by a widened global supply chain providing what we demanded.
  14. 1968 AMC Rambler Classic 440 - $3500 - Orrington, ME https://maine.craigslist.org/cto/d/orrington-1968-amc-rambler-classic-440/7145535319.html Rambler American Classic440 that runs and drives excellent. 15. 1948 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible - $5800 - Maine - Project https://maine.craigslist.org/cto/d/shapleigh-1948-lincoln-zephyr/7148892354.html# Original V12 motor. Car runs beautifully. Have many extra parts. Would make a great restoration project. Can hear it run when you come up. Call Tom (207) 4-thirty-two-443-eight I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1948 Lincoln 'Zephyr' convertible. Note: 1946-'48 non-Continental Lincolns were no longer promoted as Zephyrs through were continuation of that series in all but name. Production numbers for these is unknown, but they're survival rate is extremely low. Ironically, there are likely twenty restored 1946-'48 Lincoln Continental cabriolets for every one of these in any condition.
  16. Thanks A.J. I thought LeBaron too, but couldn't match up other details with that coachbuilder in my references. The headlights look too round and mounted to high to be the factory units, maybe Marchals?
  17. Here's a better look at that Duesenberg J town car: Any guesses who the coach-builder was?
  18. Is it just me, or does the hood line look as if its rising as it moves forward and the radiator shell look too large in scale?
  19. Here's a better look at that Duesenberg J Derham cabriolet:
  20. I hoped another view of this Duesenberg J sport sedan by Derham would turn up, its pictured in Roe, page 171. Note, it had removable B-pillar like a convertible sedan, making it conceptually a four door hardtop.
  21. Indeed! L-M dealers were fortune to have a Mercury which was finally more than a dolled-up Ford, though the lack of a real 1950-'51 Monterey hardtop built off the convertible body was inexcusable. As for Lincoln, it was up against it with the hot OHV Cadillac and Hemi Imperial; an F-8 truck-sourced flathead wasn't going to cut it anymore. In the Cosmopolitan's defense, it had one of the most elegant sedan or coupe greenhouse treatments of any at the time short of the hardtops.
  22. The 1950-'51 Ford Crestliners were a paint and trim doll-up of the standard two door sedan in an effort to compete with the new-for-1950 Chevrolet Bel Air hardtop. In addition to the sweep-panel trim and contrasting paint, the vinyl-padded top, the interiors were done in the convertible style. They proved fairly popular, so held over even when the '51 Victoria hardtop arrived. FoMoCo outfitted Mercury with the Monterey, Lincoln with the Lido and Lincoln Cosmopolitan with the Capri done the same way to compete with GM and Mopar hardtops.
