  1. 1952 Packard Patrician 400 - $13995 - Fredericksburg, VA https://fredericksburg.craigslist.org/cto/d/thornburg-for-sale-1952-packard/7149143728.html For Sale 1952 Packard Patrician Model 400. It's a beautiful two tone silver over blue finish. It's an older restoration, late 1999 ish according to receipts but it still looks as good as it did twenty years ago. Paint, chrome, interior and look great, drives great and is a real head turner. I get stopped all the time by people wanting to take a photo with the car. It needs to go to someone that can take it out for a drive and enjoy it.The odometer has 33,000miles on it but there is no way of knowing if that's 33,000 or 133,000 miles. Tired of fixing a car or waiting for a restoration? Buy this car and enjoy driving it this spring or summer. A number of people have looked at this car and think it's probably 33,000 miles on the car. There isn't a hint of rust anywhereEverything works except the radio and spotlight, selling as is, where is. Easy location for a pick up. Contact: no phone listed Copy and paste in your email: 7e8e529abbcd3600a0f859033ff9a2fc@sale.craigslist.org I have no personal interest or stake in the eventual sale of this 1952 Packard Patrician 400. Note: The Patrician 400 was the top-of-the-line Packard. Its powered by the nine main bearing 327 ci straight eight that was exclusive to the Patrician. The asking price wouldn't cover the costs of the broadcloth upholstery, which is the correct material and pattern style, or the chrome plating, much of which is pot-metal including that massive grille, gravel shields, rear fender trims and taillights. Prospect owners should educate themselves on how Ultramatic functions. it has a Low and High range plus a lock-out torque convertor. Either range may be selected to drive in, the transmission will stay in that range with only the torque convertor locking out at approximately 20 mph dependent upon throttle position. The Low range is not intended for highway driving,. High range is generally the range for all driving situation, starts off leisurely, has a pronounce feel and sound from the engine when the torque convertor lockouts out, then in direct drive. It unlocks around 10 mph. An action the driver should NEVER do is try to shift between ranges when the car is in motion. The gear sets are NOT coordinated, such action will damage the Ultramatic. Late in the 1954 model year Packard introduced Gear-Start Ultramatic which automatically starts in Low range, shifts to High, then the torque convertor lockout takes place as before. This was done to get more spritely performance to compete with the hot new V8's.
  2. Here's a better look at Finton Delivery fleet.
  3. George Walker's industrial design firm had the Nash styling contract in those years. He operated much as Raymond Loewy Associates, hired talented designers, promoted the design work to automaker management, all with substantial consulting fees. Walker's fame in the automotive design business came with his supplying Ford with the design that became the 1949 Ford. In the 1950's, Walker became director of Ford Styling. Those 'creases' are called 'wind-splits' in design parlance.
  4. This is an Ambassador Eight, Series 4080, 125" wheelbase, 261 c.i. Twin-Ignition straight eight. Ambassador Eights continued through 1942. Although we don't have exact production numbers, its a good likelihood Ambassador Eight sales comprised no more than ten percent of total 1940 model production of 63, 617 cars which included the Ambassador Six, Series 4020, and the low-priced LaFayette Six, Series 4010.

  7. 1948 Chrysler New Yorker - $12750 - Atlantic Highlands ds, NJ https://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/d/highlands-1948-chrysler-new-yorker/7154485068.html Clean and mostly original, New Yorker, rare Highlander edition. Excellent driver. won best in class in a local show last year. The car has been gone through completely a few years ago. Seats and paint were re done in the mid 1990's. you can still get touch up paint for it. ( which I have ). New brakes. water pump, hoses, battery, tune up, etc with in the last 18 months. Original engine etc. It has a semi automatic transmission. ( requires a clutch to put it into either a high or low range for driving ) It's a nice car, and turns more heads than anything else on the road. It is priced quite aggressively this week. I will be listing it in Hemmings this fall for more money when I have more time. Please don’t waste my time, and I won’t waste yours. Thankyou so much for looking. I’m going to pull it of the garage and drive it all this week. I don’t have to sell it, or need the garage space, but I don’t have much time for the old girl anymore and it’s time for some one else to have this rare opportunity. Feel free to reach out. I’ll have more photos and videos soon. 9. A.J. Not only the best Willys-Knight 66B, maybe the only 66B ever custom coach-built. I'd love to see more images of this rarity! This is the best I can get it.
  10. Someone, please call Roca, NE post office this morning after they open Central Time, explain who you are, why you are calling and who you are trying to track down to possibly purchase this 1950 Pontiac. Small town folks are helpful, will go out of their way to assist you. Bets you will have this fellow's phone number within a couple hours if not sooner.

  12. Dansk Karosseri-Fabrik created an attractive convertible cabriolet with what appears to be a lengthened over-the-cowl hood on the Willys-Knight 66B chassis.
  13. I added the profile photograph of that first 'continental'. Its gone, because it was a hasty build, it was extremely heavy with lead, leaked badly and unpowered because of the weight. When it had served its initial purpose, they saw no point in preserving it. The second one, the engineering prototype, does survive and is restored and shown at various concours d'elegance.

  16. Thanks Neil, I'll put it in the listing. A 1950 23rd Series would have a -5- in serial number, but those could be either renumbered 1949 leftovers or actual 1950 production
  17. The three in the middle are mid-1920's Studebaker Big Six commercial chassis based touring coaches. The Studebaker Big Six was 354 cu in, 3 7/8" X 5" bore and stroke, generated plenty of torque to move whatever would be loaded on it.

  20. Mr. Wudsy, The Ford Styling department, lead by E.T. Gregorie, was a refuge for urbane, cultured Edsel Ford from his tyrannical and increasing paranoid father and his henchmen as the 1930's wore on. Edsel had had custom-bodied specials built on Ford chassis periodically, another was in order for 1938-'39. This time, the Lincoln-Zephyr platform would be the basis. Edsel and E.T. had ongoing discussions of styling and the current trends here and aboard, European custom coachbuilders a real influence. Edsel visited the major European auto shows annually, no doubt returned with a trunk full of promotional materials. In discussions of what the latest special was to be, Edsel only specified it be 'continental' in theme and proportions. That left the design to the talented Gregorie to create. In oral recollections, he related that he took a vellum side elevation drawing of a '38 Lincoln-Zephyr sedan to trace over, in one half hour that inspired design developed: lowered, long hood, low belt-line, close-coupled passenger compartment utilizing the blind-quartered cabriolet top, short boxed trunk, deleted running boards, pontoon fenders, cleaned of extraneous trim. When Edsel saw the drawing, he was instantly smitten, told Gregorie not to change a line, take it to the Lincoln in-house custom body shop to see how soon it could be built. Production of the Lincoln K was staggering to a close, the shop had plenty of skilled metalworkers who were available to literally hammer out the body panels. Initially, the plan was to build only the one-off special, that was to be shipped to Hobe Sound, Florida by March 1939 for Edsel's vacation. Upon the car appearing to Edsel's wealthy contemporaries, the reception was enthusiastic, with multiple request for additional copies. Edsel was surprised by the interest it generated but also realized the potential it represented, ordered a second special built ostensibly for his sons but also as an engineering prototype. Throughout 1939. the idea developed these special Zephyr convertible would be a good addition to the line. Gregorie developed the styling based on what would become the new Lincoln-Zephyrs for 1940. As mentioned, Lincoln Twelve K was drawing to a close, Edsel saw the special convertibles were an opportunity to keep the skilled workmen building the bodies. There were no volume tools and dies for the first year, all bodies are hand-formed, welded and leaded. Think of it, in contrast to our era of computer-aided automotive design, one talented man drew on his knowledge and talent to develop a timeless design with only the impetus of the inspiration that it be 'continental' in theme. No endless design reviews, no focus group feedback sessions, no market research to determine viable volume interest, just the efforts of two men of taste and vision. Aren't you glad you ask..? Added profile photo.

  23. The first year 1940, what became Lincoln Continental for 1941, was advertised as Lincoln-Zephyr Special Continental Cabriolet. The inspiration, design and development of what became the Lincoln Continental by Edsel Ford and E.T. 'Bob' Gregorie is a fascinating episode in automotive history. Truly it was one of serendipitous events and the people who made it happen.
