Was this made in a 2dr model? I have only seen 4 dr's. -
Be careful who you lend your trailer to. (If any).

On my 1922 Studebaker Big 6 I removed the lower sheet metal covers over the flywheel and using a wire wheel on by die grinder cleaned the rust off the timing marks. I then repainted them to aid in the timing sequence.

Walk Tall with your excellent restoration.

This a good example of what the younger members have never seen. The forum is a great conduit for transferring knowledge to the new generation.

My distributor was a Remy. If you are not a member of the ASC club you should join. It will save you time and money plus you will meet interesting people.

I had trouble setting the timing up on my 1922 Big 6 about 15 yrs ago. As I remember I never realized the rotor was held to the distributor shaft by a screw which locks it down. ( any place in a 360 degree rotation). I would think you would set #1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke, and rotate the distributor till the points just open. The rotor wound then be placed under what will become #1 spark plug wire and locked down. The rest of the wires would be installed according to the firing order.

As I remember these transmissions, the input shaft did not fit into a pilot bearing in the crankshaft but hung out in mid-air. They were over complicated with more parts than most 4-speed transmission of the day . Many CD-8 owners had the dealership replace them with a standard 3 sp trans, I believe they used a 31 Dodge transmission as a replacement. I made the swap on my CD-8 and was happy.

You will find the "Early Cars" are a different "Breed of Cat" similar to flying across the ocean in a Wright Flyer. They are fun and will make you appreciate the improved technology of latter years. Most owners don't know about the early ignition systems. They can be learned with a little effort on the owners part. The forum is one of the few places with expert knowledge and experience. Good Luck in your Quest.
