Steve Moskowitz
There has been a <span style="font-weight: bold">major change</span> in the location of the car corral for this year's Eastern Division Fall Meet. Unexpected complaints from the local community have stopped removal of many trees that were to be removed for parking and other use on HERCO's property. This has been a significant problem for the Hershey Region and HERCO officials.A final solution was reached over the weekend in moving the entire car corral to the grass field formerly known as the <span style="font-weight: bold">Blue Field.</span> This solution is planned <span style="font-weight: bold">for this year only!</span> There is also some possibility of overflow near the Giant Center. The issue is still being worked on as I write this. This solution has stopped the car corral from being very chopped up and although it is not an optimum result for this year, it was the best possible idea presented. Please understand that the Region and HERCO have been working on this problem for many, many weeks and it was not caused by either of them. Again, this is a temporary solution for this year only. Your understanding will be greatly appreciated.
novaman
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> Unexpected complaints from the local community have stopped removal of many trees that were to be removed for parking and other use on HERCO's property. </div></div> Herco needs to offer them two solutions: A: you come get the trees at your expense or B: Offer to sell them the property. If they don't like either options, the trees come down. We went through that here in Mebane. On the corner of Fifth and Center streets, there was a large magnolia tree. White Furniture employees would eat lunch under a little shelter by it. A group of towns people fussed about Kerr durg wanting to protect the tree from future property owners that might want it down. This property had been offered to the City of Mebane for a park, but at an outragous figure. The town council told them if they want to protect the tree that badly, they need to buy the property Kerr Durg ended up buying the property and took down the tree. There are people in town that won't shop there because they did so.

Steve Moskowitz
Dave, everything that can be done has been done for now and things will have to take their course legally.West, you are now on the incorrigible list too!The car show field will still be in the same location and some of the space that was going to be used for the corral will now be the show field. Yes, there will be some shade trees!

novaman
Personally, I would consider the trees that are on Herco's property legally thier's, and therefore up to them to decide whether or not they stay.If they want there to be X amount of trees, plant some saplings along the edge, cut down the large trees. Then in a few months, let the grass get tall then "accidently" mow the saplings while mowing the tall grass...."oops, couldn't see them. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />")
randjflo60
From what I have read in the local newspapers, this isn't just a matter of a few trees. What Herco wants to do is level 140 acres and black top the whole thing. They won't disclose their ultimate purpose.I give the Derry Township Board of Supervisors 2 thumbs up and a hip hip horray for finally taking a stand and not allowing Herco to blacktop whatever and where ever they want. Herco has gotten away with murder (literally) in the past and it is time to stop. There needs to be a certain amount of green area maintained to minimize storm water run off. Partially because of their existing run-off, when we had the heavy rains a few months ago, the area down stream was completely flooded. I realize there were a lot of other areas flooded as well but Herco isn't the only culprit in eliminating green area. Perhaps it is time for Hershey Region to find a new location for the Fall Meet. 1937hd45
140 acre parking lot????? They do sponsor a few NASCAR cars, I wonder............
randjflo60
Furthermore, Why in the world did Herco need to build a new road right through the middle of the white field to go to the same place that 2 existing roads already went to??? Herco which is owned by Milton Hershey Schools has an overwhelming propensity for spending/wasting money. (Except on their employees)
ronbarn
Thanks for the heads up Steve! I'll be adding Flash Light Sales to my booth for the tradiditional Night Time Corral Tour. Wowabunga
I'm bringing LOTS of chairs but have not figured out how to do the "shade" thing that would look nostalgic. Considered make'n canopies out of old hoods but that idea died quickly. Plain tents for shade are too "normal" and I do like to add some spice to my vendor spaces. Steve Moskowitz
1. David, if you think you can do anything legally on your own property just because it is yours, think again! The entire issue had to go thru the local planning commission for a reccomendation and an eventual final vote from the supervisors.2. The decision on the road to the new school was approved by the local authorities to provide safer access to the school for the children and other travelers. This was extensively reported in the local papers.3. The two paved parking lots that HERCO wanted to do were much more like 14 acres than 140!4. The esteemed Mr. Barnett has joined the incorrigibles! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> (growing list)5. Mr. Unknown National Director...Scotch? I am sure you mean in the privacy of your off-site motel room, local bar, etc. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
