Other GM cars I want to own before I die

GM had a lot of cool, rare 80s-90s cars...

European Trans Sport. 5 speed. Only had a Quad 4, but hey, a manual in a minivan is cool.

L67 powered Trans Sport(probably do the same thing I did with my project)

Manual tranny Reatta. Not to copy Greg, but he's got a cool idea. Perhaps the G6 GTP 6 speed would work.

GMC Typhoon/Syclone. These are bad ass

Buick Regal GN/GNX. These are also bad ass

Pontiac 6000 STE AWD: these are rare and cool. And hey, they've got Teves!

'76 Eldo convertible. Biggest flippin motor in the biggest 2 door boat ever

RWD/turbo Reatta. I'll make one, or make a load of money big enough to buy a prototype. All that power coming from the rear, in a Reatta would be sweet. This is probably my dream car above all others.

V8 Reatta: FWD or rear. Caddy 4.9, Northstar, or 5.3 DOD.

What??? No boattail Riviera (1971-1973)!! No Buick collection is complete without one. It's amazing how much garage space they can occupy. I recently bought a 1971 (see attachment) after trying to buy three other times starting in 1973. It was sold new locally, has had five previous owners and spent the last ten years in a collector's warehouse. It now has 54,000 miles and has all options except Max-Trac and an 8-track player. frown.gif

Yup, can't forget the boatail Rivie or the original 63. My kid totaled my 71 boatail. Never got it replaced. As far as other GM cars I'd like to own. 55 Chev BelAir hdtp (used to own one but short sightedly sold it), 59 Invicta convertible, 67 GS400, any year of the last body style Riviera and a 91 Reatta convertible. Sigh, such is the stuff of dreams!!!

Let me tell you about my dream car......... one that is paid for ( a Buick would do) and that I can put 250,000 miles on with only gas, tires, oil and other typical maint. and nothing else go wrong with. Nothing fall off, break or have to go to the shop for. Just get in it and it work every time. Now that is a dream!!!!!

PS 50 mpg would also be nice or maybe run on air so I do not have to ever stop and buy gas. Ha Ha

I had dual quads on my Sunbird and could get 22 mpg on the road. It all depends on the linkage and how they are tuned. Of course that was only 305 cid and 3200 lbs.

Always thought the 65 Riv was the one they intended to build all along but had the "ugly sylist" fix the 63 and 64 to ensure 65 sales.

Came close to buying one whan I returned from SEA but decided on the 70 GS instead.

If you have the resources and an understanding spouse, go for it. Life is too short. I oughta know. I had a cerebral hemorrhage a few years back, and by all rights, I should be dead. But quick and good medical intervention, I came out ok. So I bought one of them XLR's (among others). Carol says you only live once. So I went for it.

XLR-V

Oh yeah, a '92 or so Toronado Trofeo with the VIC color touchscreen.

A nice '89 Riviera would be good as a winter alternative to a Reatta

Chrysler TC by Masarati. They look sweet. We'll count this one, though not GM cuz its got Teves

Mr. Yarnell: maybe my girlfriend/wife will be understanding, and maybe better. Like Ryan of GMtuners...his wife drives a Fiero too

My Reatta is forever though. Don't think it'll ever be replaced. Watch, in 20 years, it'll be a sight to see me with it still as my summer everyday driver. With parts and retrofitting, it will last forever. When things fail, they can be replaced with better components.

I had one of those. It was called a LaSabre, 1994 model. Didn't get 50 mpg, but did get an honest 28 -30. It needed a transmission at 249K so I sold it for $500 rather than fix the transmission. I know several LaSabra owners with over 200K, but because of GM's infinite wisdom, they are no longer available.

Well it looks like everybody went back in time. I'm going to jump to the future.

I want a Saturn Sky Turbo with a 6 speed tranny and a retractible hardtop. I want it to do 0-60 in under 5 seconds with a top speeed of 180mph and get 65 mpg. I want it to have tires that don't need to be replaced for 200k miles and stick to the road like glue. (It would be great if the oil would last that long.) It would also be nice if it would, at the touch of a button, extend to make room for 2 more passengers when required. And all for a price of $1195.00

Well, cellphones were Star Trek items weren't they? $3000.00 way back then and now some are almost free.

My wife puts up with my Reatta now, not sure how much more I can get away with...but perhaps she'll buy an XLR for me to drive...sometimes.

I agree. The XLR is an incredible car! After 300,000 miles in the cockpits of 2 Reatta convertibles I bought the XLR, and it lives up to all the hype! I eventually sold it to an ambulance-chasing attorney who was having a hard time keeping up with "Life-flight" helicopters and I bought 2 Reattas, a coupe and a convert. I've never been happier, but the XLR was the experience of a lifetime!

GM has made a lot of great cars and the 80s are still affordable. I have been bidding on any Reatta vert that looks good, also looking for a 80s Riviera convertible. Both of these cars are still affordable if you can find a good one.

My dream car has always been a Mclaren. Any body want to make a loan??????

Hello all, I'm new here and this is my first post. I saw this thread and had to reply. There are only a few cars that I have seriously dreamed of owning and now I actually own one of them. A 1989 Reatta. I've been wanting one since I was in highschool (when they first came out) and have just recently purchased one. It's black with the saddle interior and at 111500 miles the engine still runs amazingly well.

So as far as this post is concerned...here's my list:

89 Reatta

67 Camaro RS/SS (not as rare, but I've always wanted one)

62-63 Cadillac Deville Hearse S&S Sideloader (unusual?)

and for non-GM the list is rather short as well:

92 Subaru SVX

98 BMW 318ti Hatchback

67 Shelby Cobra (the 427 Hemi side oiler with the dual superchagers would be nice but the last time I checked those sold for about 1 million)

Talk about a car ahead of its time, (maybe a bit too far ahead of it time I suppose) the 1981 Cadillac V8-6-4 intrigues me.

I would be interested to get a crack at restoring and getting one of these relics up and running today.

Guess my tastes have always been more limited to what I can drive with specific cars to specific purposes. The Reatta is my daily driver and already have trip (92 TranSport 3800), cruise (66 Corvair conert.), and phun (70 Judge 4-speed). Beyond that really all that is left is "elegance" (1957-58 Cadillac Eldorado Brogham would be nice - was one parked behind the Gulf station in the town where I lived for a long time and was "just an old car" then but I liked it).

Thread was supposed to be about GM cars, but oh well...

I don't care for Bimmers much but a '90s 8-series would be sweet

An Intertrashional Travel-all, an old Packard, and an old Stupidbaker. The Ultra-matic sounds cool

The obvious dream choice would be a '67 Corvette 427/435 convertible (anyone got 150 g's to spare?). The ultimate Reatta? How 'bout an AWD version with a blown Northstar via a 6sp with 500lb shredded off the curb weight. mmm. makes ya think. Technically possible/feasible? That's what dreams are made of!

Been there, done that, still have the headaches. Car had an uncanny ability to slip into four-cylinder mode at 70 when you floorboarded it for passing. Cadillac dealer finally unhooked/deprogrammed/smashed whatever it took so that it ran on eight cylinders all the time. Think every 8-6-4 I saw had been modified.

Not one of GM's better ideas....

Hey F14 those are some cool cars. I owned a 89 toronado trofeo with the VIC screen and it was pretty cool. the reatta is actually a replacement for my trofeo since i lost it in an accident. although the VIC in the olds was neat it does not have as many features as the one in the reatta.

Yeah I'd have an Aurora too. Great looks and performance, and it's different. Something people didn't expect from Oldsmobile. Buick needs another car that people wouldn't expect to be a Buick
