Other GM cars I want to own before I die

On the Aurora: We took a couple of lengthy road trips in it. Sneaky fast for a big car, comfortable, good looks. GM hasn't brought forward a Buick that compares to it. They'll tell you the Lucerne is better. A boring looking car named after a city. I don't agree. We got rid of it because it was starting to become unreliable and costly. Last straw was the $500.00 headlight switch. Traded it in for a 2004 Regal. Talk about a step back.

We traded our 1996 Aurora (w/Autobahn) in January 2005 for a left-over 2004 Malibu Maxx. After our GM Major Guard $0-deductible extended service policy expired on the Aurora (@ 72,000 miles), repairs were costly. An ~$1,100 steering rack replacement at ~90,000 miles followed a couple of months later by an ~$500.00 serpentine belt replacement put us in the market for something newer. The Aurora might be the nicest 4-door car we will ever own.

You know what may be on the top of my list? Not GM, and a bit older I know, but a Chrysler turbine car, circa 1963 . Gonna take A LOT of cash for that one. I'm sure it'll be an unforgetable ride.

I read up on it. When the government loaned Chrysler money to bail themselves out in 1979, they had to cancel their turbine tank project and ditch Chrysler Defense. They were DAYS away from giving regular production of turbine powered cars a go

HUH?!?

I don't know where you got that impression. Turbines are extremely loud and THIRSTY. A Turbine engine in a tank is one thing, automobiles is quite another.

I am not aware of any serious production plans for a turbine-powered automobile, certainly not as late as the late seventies.

I can speak up for the Allante.

Mine's a '91. Great car! Different from my Reatta. I like both. Both can be reasonably affordable right now, all things considered. I bought mine for fun not for investment purposes.

The Allante is not turbo/super charged (in production) but has great acceleration with its 4.5 liter V-8.

Some people like to have the Northstar engine version. That would be a '93 only. I have not driven one but I heard that GM "Cadillac-ized" the ride for the '93. They went for a more cushy ride & did away with the Recaro seats for more "puffy" GM seats. I was told by someone who owns both kinds of Allantes that he likes both but each is different. He told me that the pre-'93 is more a european roadster while the '93 is more of a luxury ride. Take your choice, I guess...My choice... The roadster.

Too bad they didn't use the 4.9L. I read of someone swapping port fuel injection onto a TBI 4.5L. Gained like 30 hp

I wonder if they didn't use the 4.9 because of space limitations. I don't know anything about the 4.9, but the quarters are rather cramped with the 4.5 In fact, the battery is located behind the passenger seat. No room under the hood.

Didn't the Mecerdes 2-seater of that time have an optional 5.6 liter? Whew! That's big (for a little car).

I'm not the power afficianado as some, but the 4.5 with the sequential port injection does me very well!!!

I did think the same about the 4.9 being too big, but I would think the Northstar would be bigger due to it being DOHC. Like a Ford 4.6 compared with the old Five Oh shows that the 4.6 is considerably bigger. I'm assuming the same for the Caddy

I doubt you will be making a bid, I see you selling several one of a kind exotic somethings, maybe a turbo rear wheel Reatta with a removable hardtop. And I like this addition of the quick reply. They are getting sexy with this thing.

I remember seeing the turbine car at the Philly auto show when I was a kid. They had a glass of water on the fender as they revved it up to demonstrate how smooth running it was. I also remember them talking about using altenative fuel in the engine. Ahead of its time??

Heck yeah, they will burn just about anything that can flow. Kerosense, JP4, diesel...it said you can switch between fuels with no adjustments
