PAINT AND UPHOLSTERY!

I finally made it to the shop that I have been trying to get my car into. After months of engine and transmission work, the Cadillac is finally off to the paint & body shop. I am using American Classics and HotRods in Va Beach. They are rewiring, replacing a creased driveshaft, adding the fast-idle solenoid, re-upholstering the inside (except carpets which my wife and I did ourselves) and repainting from red back to Cadillac Code 10 Black. All of my chrome is coming back from New Hampshire so we're coming together for 30 JAN 2005.

Where is the plater in NH, do they handle potmetal and why did you choose them? I inquire as I have a cars worth of parts to be replated. I had a plan of trying tri-city plating in Tenn. and Superior Plating in TX for the potmetal on this project.. Prices seem decent, at least compared to the plater near me in MA. Would prefer to deal with driving the parts as opposed to shipping, not only with cost savings but I can sometimes be a tad "fussy". I let those doing work for me know about it up front, and their knowing I can show up at their door helps get it right the first time, I think. Thanks for any input..Steve

21raceabout and gumgeey (SP?),

The bumpers are headed to Tri-City in Tennessee. I usually use Tri something -Plating in Minnesota but this restoration shop has the TN one as their favorite. The accessory chrome (hood goddess, hood badge, and 6 air condtionining vents are being chromed by Bob Waller in NH. Bob does superior work, just don't be in a rush because he takes his time on them. I have one aluminum rear door protector that is brokem and there is a Norfolk fellow that will repair it and buff all of the aluminum trim pieces. Don't know his name off-hand. The car is being painted and restored at American Classics and Hot Rods on Euclid Road in Virginia Beach.

Gungeey, DO NOT count on Superior Plating in TX doing a good job on your pot metal, especially if you are pickey.

Try the Finishing Touch in Chicago if your are going to try anywhere. You will be much more happy.

Tri-City is limiting their plating to bumpers only...no more small parts.

We send out chrome to Canada. They can process chrome with chemicals that have been banned in the US. They do a great job, and the difference in price is minimal.

Of course when it comes to chrome, everyone has their own "war stories" of the good and bad of the different ones. We've done business with three other chrome shops locally, but since we went to the canadians, we've stopped looking anywhere else. The irony of it is that my dad and I met a group of gentlemen at the awards ceremony in Hershey this year who were from Canada. After talking to them about platers, we found out that they ship their chrome to the same place that my father and I do..... Cambridge Chrome.

I like SPACE COAST PLATING in Melbourne, Florida. Have done great work for me, and also not cheap, but have fair prices. They did every single piece of my 1956 Buick and I was extremely pleased. Some of it was extremely difficult work too, especially a really rough rear dual exhaust bumper.
