Nov./Dec. issue of AA (the magazine!)

I'm painting and restoring a 56 Buick that runs good, and it's going to look great, but do I need it? It's still going to run from here to there and back just the same way it did before. Yes, we need it. If you want to attract more members, especially younger members who are used to better things today then we were years ago, then you've got to have a class product.

Earl, I just bought a '63 Corvair Convertible which I need like another hole in the head, crazy.gif but there is no cure for this disease of ours. We just keep on collecting, don't we. That Corvair was a new car when we first met wsn't it? grin.gif I expect my Corvair to outlive Ralph Nader. cool.gif

Steve, My new issue just arrived,LIKE THE COVER !! My very first issue of AA was bought on a newsstand pre 1969 (has a white 1909 Ford Tourabout on the cover)and I think the new cover is a must if you plan to offer it to the general public. The classiest automotive magazine on the rack is The Rodders Journal a quarterly that sells for $12.95, the new AA shares the same quality cover now. I don't know how it will display on the newsstand on end, sealed in plastic defeats the purpose of attracting new people. Only an established magazine will sell without the buyer flipping through it. IMO

Thanks for the reply on the cost/issue. I agree that our members need as much bang for their buck as they can get. There have been lots of complaints over the past few years that members didn't feel they were getting much for their dues dollars. Revamping the magazine will be something they can see and, hopefully, enjoy. Patt

HEY! I got my magazine today. Looks like the cover may be shinier. Do I win? "What, the contest is over?" <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Ok, But I also noticed that the front cover '57 Ford does not look correct. I would call it a little overrestored with its "better than factory" paint job. They haven't ever made a Ford that shiny! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Now, to be serious. I'd like to see more information about our new editor, Sandra King. I can already tell that she knows how to put a magazine together. Tell us about yourself, Sandra! Did Steve get on his hands and knees begging you to take the job? <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> It's a nice issue,Sandra, be proud.

I'll check back on here Friday. Wayne

Howard, you haven't heard the worst! Even before the 56 Buick was finished, I bought a poor old dilapidated 39 Buick sedan, just because it needed me. It's late owner had loved it since it was new, but got too sick to keep it up. So I put Dave B. on the case, and I've started pulling out all of my take-offs over the years in an effort to stabilize this car just for fun use. Yep it is a disease.

By the way, STEVE, the magazine made it to beautiful downtown Montross today too. It's beautiful and I can't wait until the next one is out with the more extensive changes. Let's keep what they are a secret and shock their socks off, okay? They all said I never smile, so I've smiled the heck out of this year.....look at that chessy cat smile in my close up! Thank goodness next year I can go back to my normal frown. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

The new Antique Automobile just arrived in Stony Creek, CT yesterday, and it's a beauty! Congrats to Sandra King also in her new editorship! I've had the pleasure of many correspondences over the years with Sandra related to classifieds I've placed in AA, and she's always been an extremely helpful and gracious person. AA is in good hands indeed!

Sandy King has been with our magazine for many, many years. She has had the title of associate editor and has had a lot to do with numerous facets of the publication. Thankfully, she was able to step in and take a greater responsibility when our editor resigned this year. We would have had a significant problem without her able help. AACA is greatly indebted to her.

However, starting the NEXT issue we have a permanent replacement for our top spot in the magazine. It has been widely reported, but West Peterson has assumed control over the magazine. I gaurantee you that everyone will quickly notice the changes and we will not have to have any "contest" for you to figure out!

Steve, the Nov/Dec issue of AA arrived in my mailbox here in Melbourne, FL today. The glossy cover is really stunning, but I look at the cover only a few minutes before going to the inside. You have to decide how to spend the money, and if it's going to cause you to decide between the cover and something else, I don't think I would favor the cover.

My issue arrived in Atlanta Ga. yesterday. The cover is impressive; but the content is where the meat is and this one has some great content. Personally, I enjoy reading tech, history, and members personal experience articles. The article on "The Junkyard" was very good, I look foward to reading "Rambler Jeffery Nash".

Received AA in Camp Hill and I like the cover. If there is any thought of selling AA via the newsstand it would probably stand out much better with this cover. Who knows maybe AACA could even turn a decent profit if the AA catches on to non club members. Might even help up the membership roles.

Looking forward to reading the AA with West at the helm. I had the opportunity to meet him at Amelia Island in 2001 and he seems like a great person for the job.

Steve, Howard is undoubtedly correct.....you will find a way to make all of the improvements that you and the editor desire, and within budget. It's great, and I am now looking forward to receiving the Jan/Feb 05 issue!

I wondered why mine had all of that extra script inside. Just kidding Mr. Frison. I'm sure Mr. Moskowitz can correct that with a new issue post haste. I've neevr heard of that happening before. Then, I'm still wet behind the ears. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Wayne

"Disappearing INK?" <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> This is too good! Steve, weren't you involved with a car dealership? I always wondered why the "signed" warrenty contract always "lost" my signature, or was it their signature?. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> The secret is out!!! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Wayne

Be careful Wayne, those stereotypes do not always fit! I am still in touch with many of my former customers and just got a nice Christmas present from one of them. In many towns and cities the new car dealers do an awful lot for many organizations. There sure are some bad apples but they are in all lines of business. BTW, you had better check your membership card for disapperaing ink! I have resisted the urge to push the delete button on your membership here at the office! I am in the Holiday spirit so no worries! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Howard...my picture has been there since the first issue (Jan/Feb)!! Did you not see my smiling face, did you not read my message?? You are going to get at least two demerits from me! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I feel very confident that the new issue in 2005 will generate a lot of very positive comments from our members. It will be rather shocking in some ways but I am very pleased with the start our new editor has given us.

I just never put the two, the name and the face, together until I came to the forums and he was here. smile.gif Now I can picture his smiling face when I read his messages.

We read them before we cut them up and recyle the rest. laugh.gif If we kept all of the publications we get, and we get less than we used to, the house would fall into the basement from the sheer weight. Paper is heavy. And lots of what is in them is ads. tongue.gif So why keep ads for things we will never buy? And by setting up files for what we do keep it makes it easier to find the informations when we, or someone else, needs it. grin.gif

Steve ~ My copy of Jan-Feb AA has William H. Smith's picture next to the FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK article on page 2. I assumed that was what Shop Rat was referring to. Where is you at in that issue? grin.gif

Ok, one of us is dipping into the sauce a bit! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Maybe we sent you a special edition? I have the Jan/Feb edition for 2004 and my very first column is in it...or did the 2003 edition only make its way to you in 2004? No WHS column but Jeanne's first column was. Wyoming is a loooong way from Hershey! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

OK, OK, OK. You win. blush.gif I don't have Jan-Feb 2004. The magazine in my file for '04 is Jan-Feb '03. Don't ask me how or why I have that one and none for Jan-Feb '04. I surrender. Make that an even 5 demerits. I went to a military school and I know that means 2 1/2 houre of punishment tours or cleaning stables on Saturday morning. frown.gif

Sorry Steve, really. Maybe I've been reading too much Franken and I am confused between fact and belief. smirk.gif

Steve,

Sorry for the late reply. The Nov/Dec. issue is first rate. The cover is sensational. I don't know if it's worth the extra cost to print it, but it sure is beautiful. The contents aren't bad either.

Nice job!
