48LCCOUPE
There has been talk of late as to the honesty and risk associated with ebay listers' description and if they are making it better than it is. My brother emailed this listing to me as an example, and people walking outside my office were wondering what could posibly make me laugh so hard I almost started choking. Read the entire description and hold on. Makes you appreciate american iron.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2451718436
6219_Rules
That was pretty funny! And no doubt true...I loved the Terms of Sale. P.T. Barnum is alive and well cause someone actually BOUGHT it for money...real greenbacks. Sheesh. Got to love it though!
rocketraider
That IS pretty good! I'd forgot those Interceptors. Hmmm- let's think a minute- there were also TVRs, and those beasty Triumph Stags and TR-8s from Leyland. The ebay ads that make me howl are the ones aimed at idiot riceboys. I've seen a a blowdryer advertised as an instant electric turbo kit and wornout tires advertised as "special shaved tread high speed tyres". What's frightening is that they SOLD! And I can picture some teenage boy sending these charlatans the money he sweated to earn.Live and learn- ya gonna be dumb, ya better be tough. Guest
I do believe that Diogenes [i think that was the guy] has finally found his honest man. Randall, if it wasn't Diogenes, please come on here and correct me. Speaking from memory without reference material at hand can be dangerous. hvs
ALF1
Love it! In about 1970 our daughter dated a boy named Mark Qvale, whose father was the Western United States distributor for Jensen. So this 16-year-old kid would drive up in what we called the Pregnant Guppy (forerunner of the AMC bubblecar). No matter which one his dad's Interceptors he happened to be driving that day, it always needed water. From Day One out of the factory, they ran at boiling. Young Mark finally got smart and started tooling around in a Jensen-Healey which, while also problem-plagued, was head and shoulders above the 'Ceptor.-- ALF
1937hd45
I just found out about this eBay auction on the MG site, did you notice the number of hits the auction got? Good to see people have a good sence of humor, you can sell anything on eBay if you give an honest discription. I'm sure there were some parts that made the deal a good one for the buyer. I didn't see too much rust on the glass.
tomchaney
That is really one of the funniest listings I've ever read. The guy has talent as a writer. Maybe he can use it to earn enough money to buy a nice car!
Dave@Moon
It is funny, and he may have gotten 37,000+ hits for his wit. But this car sold for less than 1/2 it's value as a #6 condition donor parts car (more than a little atypical for eBay). What price wit? Knowing what little I do about these cars, the (used) electrical components are worth the selling price if only 1/2 of them are still good. The rest of the car will likely be sold off for core charge prices, at a hefty profit to the buyer.....And that's clearly Chrysler blue overspray! Guest
But Dave, money and profit are not everything to everybody. This guy no doubt got what he wanted out of the deal and obviously had fun doing it.Now if any of us feel that his honesty has cost him $$$, we could send him a few bucks as payment for its entertainment value. hvs
Guest
I saw that auction mentioned on a couple of the online-auction forums the other day. Too funny.Sometimes ebay auctions are good for a laugh anyhow.
48LCCOUPE
Dave@Moon, lighten up a bit. Look at the terms of sale "For starters, you can get it out of my driveway." not 10% within 48 hours...... the guy wanted the car gone and didn't give a rip about sales price or profit. He had fun and let most of us enjoy his fun as well. Not everything is a serious matter of a- typical this and typical of that. I've had my share of lemons that just needed to get gone, win or lose. has little or nothing to do with ebay, it just would have cost him an awful lot per word in the local classifieds. Guest
Right David, Florida Dave that is. I just gave an old truck that I wanted to be rid of to someone who could use a few extra bucks, with the instruction, "You take it and sell it and keep whatever you can get for it. I want it out of here with the least effort." Sometimes money isn't everything. hvs
52deluxe
those electric turbos on ebay are actually can ruin your engine. the idea came from some industial electric turbo "diesel i think" and i have seen a few on boats. the difference a real electric turbo has a high current, high speed "30,000 rpm +" electric motor and metal blades. the ones on ebay are vent motors and the suction from your intake makes them spin much faster than designed and they fly apart and the pieces get sucked into your engine. last i heard there were rules against selling them on ebay. on a side note i sorta like the car in the auction especially the 383 v8 and 727 tf, its the same as whats in my 70 dodge 3/4 crew cab. my truck is so fast it scares me a little i cant imagine the same powerplant in a little car like this. zoooooomtom
6219_Rules
As a matter of fact, Howard...yes! It was Diogenes Laertius who was a cynic, looking for an honest man.
Guest imported_MikeWilliamsUK
I just sold a '69 Interceptor I'd had for 26 years. Never once let me down and handled better than the average 4-seater of the period - much better than some! I still have a '66 Jensen, though with an alloy body. Just shows what neglect can do to a nice car. When the value of a car falls they get sold cheap to people who can't maintain them, then they start to get rough, then people think they are rubbish, then they get sold cheap etc etc. Suddenly there are few good ones left, people realise they are a lot of car for the money and they become a rare and desireable 'classic'!Mike

52deluxe
i know it sounds funny, and i do spend way to much time in the packard just ask the wife :-) but the truck is faster than it sounds at least off the line. i just had a high performance cam, timing chain, and lifter set put in it. i havent quite come to grips with the extra horse power, plus it only has drum brakes and i think thats what worries me the most. i still like the car on ebay tho, its just so ugly if i had space id probably get it.tom
