 I would have thought a better way to remove the wheel lock would have been to use a hole saw around the nut!

 Then you could use a large washer with an extended nut.  (ha Ha)

Back in the 60's, there was a problem with Porsche's new mag wheels. The lug nuts were also alloy, and if the tire shop had their gun set too high, they'd just disintegrate.

Not true, it causes the brake rotor to warp and then  the brake pads wear down the "high spot" from the warp/twist and you end up with two thin areas on the brake rotor causing the pulsation when stopping.

 

Always use a torque wrench when installing wheels on vehicles with disc brakes.  If a service station does not use a torque wrench, go home and loosen and retorque the lug nuts.
