Hans1965
Okay, I confess, it is not a Buick. After 5 Buicks in a row I had to buy this. It is in a miserable state, engine condition unknown. But it is an iconic car and supposed to be rustfree. Most of the outer and inner trim is there, the glass as well as the mechanicals of the engine compartment. I always wanted a 1948 Cadillac Ser. 62 Club Coupe. Now I got one. Please keep your fingers crossed that this will not be my biggest nightmare. To buy sight unseen is always a gamble but that's my only chance and the seller is really a very nice guy. I guess there is only a handful, if at all, in Europe.

You know I buy cars mostly because of their looks. And it must have an engine. 🤣 The design of the 48/49th is just breath taking. Of the 4 fastback versions, 61 and 62 in each year, I wanted exactly that 48 series 62 because of the chevrons under the rear lights and the side trim. Call me crazy. I can deal with that. 😁 Hey and by the way, can anway here spare a 49 Buick Roadmaster Sedanet? 😁🤩
rodneybeauchamp
Wow, just like a shake the box model kit , but in 1:1 scale. Nice body style too. So what are the plans? Rodney 😀😀😀😀
drhach
that is a beautiful body style. Best of luck with your project.

The windows are out anyway, the firewall is more-or-less clean, so this is ideal to paint it again. It had been gray, but I would go for black. Otherwise I keep it bone stock. We recently discussed here a black 48/49 coupe that was totally good but hotroded by somebody. No, no, no, that's not my way. I want to bring my car back to former glory. This design is so outstanding, the cars needs nothing else. I hope I get it done. The former owner had it for 8 years and the two owners before him died with the car.
60FlatTop
Those flathead Cadillac V8s are hard to beat. And the body style has had a following since they were new. The best part of those abandoned projects is that someone already did all the easy work for you. When it is parked put the shifter in R. It won't roll that way.

"R" (reverse) serves as "Park" when the engine is shut off on these early Hydramatics which did not have a separate "Park" position. When parking, shut the engine down and move the selector to R.

If you mean the easy work is the dismantling, right. But a project car that moved at least three times for sure there are more missing parts waiting to be discovered. Now I am in it. Hands down, the 1948-1949 Cadillac fastbacks are far-superior in overall design than the Buicks of those years. You got a good start with what appears to be solid sheet metal. Nothing wrong with keeping the exterior bone stock and updating the engine nowadays. This 1949 belongs to Jack K. and is the best I've seen and shows up every June at the Minnesota Street Rod Association's Back to the Fifties Show. It has all the right looks: lowered stance, Black paint, windshield visor, custom wheels and the door/window vent shades. Good luck on your project and keep us posted. Hans1965
Al, thanks for the message. This 49 screams coolness! The wheels are amazing! My poor vehicle has an outside visor, too, and the vent shades, but only one of the skirts. But mine is customized by the factory with these incredible chevrons underneath the tail lights. I love that gimmic. I am not a big fan of removing the hood and trunk crest. These are so distinctive and beautiful. There are tons of money in that 49. I do mine on a budget. Model56s
53 Mack, ahem, I beg to differ😉. The styling of the 48-49 Oldsmobile 98, 49 Buick Super & Roadmaster and 48-49 Cadillac Club coupes is a narcotic. Below is my Super. Hans, I also seized an opportunity in 2021 with a panel truck and completed a body-off-frame in 20 months, and the truck lacked an engine, transmission, drive shaft and seat, so you will prevail! You did the right thing and will avoid the regret of a missed opportunity. I will be following this project.
kingrudy
Great looking project Hans. I have been a big fan of these Cadillacs for many years. I will be following your progress.
