Three bar rear bumperette

Just a few cars had a 3-bar but I haven't been able to pinpoint which one this came off of. The bars are 1 3/4" and 20" overall length. That aluminum emblem thing kind of looks like it has a laid down S   Thanks for any help.

Under the S is Milwauke, that may help.

 The double ribs in each bar would date these bumpers around 1928. Nash advanced 6 cars had triple blade bumpers , so maybe Nash

On the top of that emblem is some word that starts with a B which may be the bumper company name. I've had 26,27 and 28 Nash Adv 6 cars in different configurations,looked in the Car Spotters Guide,The American Motors Family Album and the Nash Auto Quarterly and have yet to see a 3-bar on any of them. Not to say they didn't have them but balcrank was the only type shown. Thanks for the note,how you doing with your 27?

Hi Sagefinds,

 I agree the triple bar bumper is unusual and you might never find what car it fits. A lot of cars in the mid to late 20's came from the factory without bumpers or could be ordered with bumpers as an extra. The ones you have were probably provided by a company that made aftermarket ones.

 Most of the Nash pictures I have show cars either with 2 bar bumpers or none at all. Below is a picture of one I downloaded off the nett, I think I may have ones of another car, but cant find it.

 

My 27 Nash Advanced 6 touring has been sitting and waiting while I'm gathering parts. I'm busy finishing a 35 Ford phaeton and the Nash is next in line to be restored, It will be another huge project as a lot of the wood frame was eaten by termites and the car was turned into a truck at some stage. I'm still looking for rear doors and a rear body section, but will make new doors and rear section if I can't find one. The rear section I have at the moment is I think Nash but smaller, possibly from a special six or light six. Below is my car as I found it. Regards Viv.

I have a the same pattern on my bumperettes but don`t know what make they will fit on ?

I don`t think it`s Buick as painted?

    Starting in 1925, Kissel added an option to be able to buy factory equipped three bar or two bar bumpers. Those originals are rare and most, but not all Kissel eights had the three bar types,and the Kissel sixes mostly had the two bars. But they mixed up types a lot.

Here is a picture of a 3-bar rear bumper for a 28 Kissel with a spare tire mount in the back.  They look very similar.  It has the grooves in it as well but just different clamps.

I believe the logo is for Badger Bumpers out of Milwaukee. They made all types of bumpers for most any make of car according the this Beck & Corbitt book I have. Here is a close up of the S that I believe you're seeing... the book does not show all the bumper styles or designs they made.

 

There should be a 3 or 4 digit number stamped on the back somewhere from what I'm reading. Can you tell me the number?

 

They referred to the 3 row bumper as "Advance Guard" bumpers which appears to be there top of the line but again, no photos. It does mention they had one labeled  "Type C Bars made of 1/4 x 1 3/4 spring steel".. Numbers stamped on back of bumper would be No 1009 for the Nickeled Rears and No 1011 for the Painted Black Rears

Thanks Dave,I think you hit the nail on the head. Since my bumperette has that same guard that looks like a double blade hatchet head as one of Ron's fronts pictured,it's a good bet the thing started life on a Kissel. Anyway it's nice to think so. The link above that has all the pictures,some cars have smooth bumpers,some have ridged,all the cars pictured in the Car Spotters Guide of that era have Ridged 3-bar bumpers. Thanks again.

Thanks Ron,Sure appreciate your input. If I wasn't into Cadillacs,it might be Kissels,fantastic cars. I have an NOS rear fender,earlier than the bumperette that might be Kissel,I need to drag it out and post a picture. No doubt in my mind you could tell me yay or nay. Thanks again.

I've had a number of 3-bar Buick bumpers over the years and I can tell you those are not Buick.
