Scammers - NOTICE

Recommended Posts

REMINDER:

Calling the AACA office or the moderators to vent about getting scammed isn't going to magically fix the problem.

NO, the AACA can not:

  • prevent scammers on the forum or at the Hershey swap meet
  • vet all forum users or vendors
  • create a registry of scammers
  • guarantee the authenticity, description, quality or suitability of anything bought or sold

REMINDER:

  • Buyer Beware
  • Caveat Emptor
  • You are solely responsible for what you buy
  • Report posts or users that are spam or scams to be banned

Just yesterday or the day before, a new forum member posted his phone number in the public forum.

There is nothing unusual about that happening here. The same goes for an email address. Everyone in the world can read that. Kim Jong Un can read that. My long lost half brother (he's royalty in Nigeria you know) can read that. Every scammer in the world can read that and initiate a scam without ever interacting with the forum in any way. Then, no doubt, a short time later Peter will be getting complaints that there are "scammers on the forum" from people expecting him to do something about it. He can't do anything about it because the scammer was never here. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Now there have been scammers actually on the forum. It is common and they are relentless, both here and on every other car forum on the web. The moderators here are very good about banning and deleting these accounts quickly, but they have to know. The faster they know, the more likely the scammer's account can be deleted before much damage is done. Peter's posts above get right to the point. If you see something suspicious, report it. It is circled in red in his second post.

You can lead a horse to water...

Peter, an old horsemen’s trick if you want a horse to drink — add a little bourbon to the water. They love the smell and taste. How you do that on the forum is your problem to solve.

Oh the irony....

the only way to get forum users to drink water is to remove access to bourbon.
