bunchabuix
I need to replace the fuel pump on my Century. I also replaced the vacuum wiper motor with an electric wiper motor, so I don't need the vacuum side of the fuel pump. Does anyone know if a single action fuel pump from 1957 or later will work on the '56?
SpecialEducation
I thought maybe a single action pump off something like a Chevy school bus would be cheaper/easier to find, but never had any luck going that route.  We just keep fixing the same old pump... lol
mobileparts
NO.   The 1953 - 1956 Buick V 8 Fuel & Vacuum Pump --- is all by itself. If you cap off the vacuum portion --- to use it as a "single action" pump --- that is all that can be done, and there is no replacement for it, period.........   I CAN provide that Fuel Pump for you --- NEW --- if you need or require. Always best to simply call me --- Craig --- 516 - 485 - 1935. old-tank
Short of getting the pump from a 58 Chevy bus with the 322 Loadmaster engine, just rebuild the fuel pump portion.  https://www.then-now-auto.com ask for kit FPA228SA. This will rebuild the Chevy one or the upper one on yours (if it has the 56 domed pump with one center screw on top). You will need to call them since it is not listed. Roadhog1951
AI just went through this problem. A complete 56 fuel pump kit is $90.00. You can get a rebuilt pump from Russ Martin at Centerville auto for $110 exchange... of course there is shipping involved....Ed
old-tank
THIS  is what I did a couple of years ago. New pump for about $80 now. "Rebuilt" pumps don't last probably because they have been rebuilt too many times.
Roadhog1951
Old tank. Where can you get a NEW pump for $80.00????????
bunchabuix
Thanks to all who responded, I might try the single action pump, Chev truck application, since I have eliminated the vacuum lines/routing & wiper motor already.  Stay safe!

Roadhog1951
Oh, I see you can buy a ford pump for $80 and "adapt" it. 😆 Edited November 15, 2020 by Roadhog1951 (see edit history)
EmTee
Interesting -- Old Tank adapted his Ford to take a Buick fuel pump.
