Robert G. Smits
I have been looking for a low milage SC300/SC400 for some time. Looking at a SC300 with Automatic. Any positive or negative information on the 2JZ-GE motor or A340E automatic. Should I wait for a SC400?
zepher
Good luck with your hunt for one. Out here in Calif all of the good ones are being bought up by the tuner crowd and that is driving up prices.

Lebowski
Why don't you go to a Lexus site and ask them? 2
John_S_in_Penna
The early Lexus cars were given a "Much Better than Average" reliability rating by Consumer Reports. That is their highest level of ranking. I believe you will have a good experience with either model, as long as you find one that has been well taken care of. bryankazmer
The SC300 and the IS300 both used the Supra's in-line 6. Very smooth and reliable engine( I had an IS300), reasonable power but not terribly quick. The suspension on the SC's are rather soft - make sure the handling suits you. padgett
The 430 retractable is interesting if you do not need a trunk. I prefer an SLK.
46 woodie
The next A.A.C.A. show that I attend, I'll look around the show field and see if I can find one and ask the owner what he thinks.

One of the reasons this car is attractive to me is that it will be eligible for many AACA and VMCCA tours in a year. At age 80 I am tired of towing to all the tours. Buffalowed Bill
Robert, I've always like the 400SC, but kind of moved away from purchasing one because of it's low stance. It gets harder and harder to get out of some of my cars as I've aged. At 76 yrs old I began to wonder how long I could comfortably use one. As for as your search, what are your specific requirements? What does low mileage mean to you? Do you have a price ceiling, or is the original condition more important then the price? Is color a concern to you? The reason I ask is the cars are available where I live, but my guess that you wouldn't want buy one from the West Coast-or you would have already bought one. Bill Yesterday I purchased a SC 300 with 38K miles. Owned by a sports car racer (Toyota Supra) who put 10 K miles on it in the past 10 years and recently changed the timing belt. Pearle White with Auto. I was hoping for a 5 speed but the wife vetoed it since she wants to drive it in nice weather. Thanks for the offer to help. Edited September 30, 2020 by Robert G. padgett
I've learned to avoid anything with a timing belt. Even a twin dual cam 6 with a non-interference engine.
Robert G. Smits
I have probably put over 500K on timing belt interference engines without a mishap. I did trash a 81 MB 380 motor with the single timing chain though.
