Native
Is this a a real car or a misprint. I thought the Riviera name was only given to the 2 door hardtop?

B Jake Moran
Riviera was also used on 4 door Buick’s from about 1950 to 1953. I’m not exactly sure but I do not believe there was ever an emblem or plate on a so called Riviera. It was included in the name of the car only. I may be incorrect but I believe I am right on my years.
g-g-g0
Not a misprint! Check out Home Town Buick website for pictures, nomenclature and specifications of 50’s Buick’s.
Y-JobFan
They were cashing in on the Riviera name by throwing it on as many models as they could , Kind of cheapened the name and luckily it didn't kill it
60FlatTop
All those European theater military vets knew about France, the French Riviera, and the Cannes film festival. Weren't no higher style to cash in on. I went into Navy boot camp in 1967 after owning a 1958 Chevy Nomad. You can start some arguments on that one, too! Fr. Buick
Not on the 1950. Refers to a longer wheelbase, extra trim and a smoother rear roofline and side window treatment. And a heap of extra room in the back seat.
mp65riv
I believe the Riviera name was also used on the 4 door 6 window hardtop (no b post) through 62.

No. Just Mod 52 for Super and Mod 72 for Roadmaster. Each 4" longer WB than the regular Sedan, which is Mod 51 and Mod 71. Ben
RivNut
The Riviera name was first used in 1949 for the two-door "pillarless" hardtop; there was no B pillar. After a couple of years of designating the pillarless hardtop it was used in the names of other models that had longer wheelbases and plusher interiors. Google Buick Riviera and you'll get the basic story of the use of the Riviera name up until 1963 when the Riviera became a unique model in the Buick line. RivNut
72R is a 4 door, 76R is a two door.
