OLDTINPUSHER
Anyone know what this came from? I'd guess mid-teens open car?
1909schacht
Dash looks like a 1917 Dort.
viv w
Agreed the 1917 Dort dash layout is similar, but looking at pictures of pre-1920 Dort cars, they do not seem to have the vent on the top of the cowl and the top of pre-1920's cowls seem to slant forwards a lot more. The windshield post bracket on the top of the cowl should be a good clue to what this is from.
OLDTINPUSHER
More info. Knob on top center turns to open cowl. See photos below. Unusual set up, hope this jogs someones memory.
Fleek
I think it is newer, mid-'20s. Check out the '23 Wills St Claire B-68 on RM Sotheby's auctions. Can't copy the link for some reason. Window mount, vent, and even the dash is close.
oily rag
Studebaker if I remember right, or just another unknown to complicate things.
Dave Mellor NJ
Fleek has it: https://www.conceptcarz.com/z25660/wills-sainte-claire-b-68.aspx
Spinneyhill
Trouble is, none of those proposed cars have the two joins part way across the roll atop above the instrument board. They all have one piece going right across. Edited July 5, 2018 by Spinneyhill (see edit history)
gwells
And the Wills also doesn't have those very unusual windshield mounting 'tubes' either. They would seem to me to be the one feature that should be able to nail an ID; I can't recall seeing anything like those sort of brackets before. Fleek
Whether it is the Wills or not, I think any car using this style of windshield mount would have a cover going over the tube to hide the welds. What you are seeing is just the anchor for the windshield frame which would cover it.
Spinneyhill
The other thing is the wooden "fire wall". This has to be an early cowl.
OLDTINPUSHER
i believe there may have been a metal "firewall" in front of the wood. The OK written on the wood may be factory??
Dave Mellor NJ
The Wills does have the cowl vent.
