V. K. Shirk
Both of these cars look to be the same but what make and year are they?
Larry Schramm
WOW, what a pair of vehicles. Someone had the money to make a statement!
keiser31
I think they are Stutz cars. They were identified on this forum before.
V. K. Shirk
Stutz was my guess to but the radiator didn't quite look like a Stutz to me. Thanks!!!
zipdang
Headlights are different and what's with the front bumper on the nearer car?
1912Staver
The body on the near one looks more like what I would expect on a Mercer L head raceabout. The ones from about 1921 even had the same hood louvers. The bright rad shells are atypical for Mercer but most of the other details fit. Are you sure they were identified as Stutz ? Spinneyhill
Far one has drum headlights, near one has bullet shape. Near bumper is turned up but appears to be same as far one. Near car windscreen is nearer vertical than the other?
Bleach
There's more to it.
1912Staver
Hollywood is at times criminal in its treatment of vehicles. Perhaps the first take is what bent the bumper upwards. Shocking that a Mercer Raceabout was ever abused in such a manner. Greg in Canada
nzcarnerd
From memory this is Buster Keaton and he owned both cars. Might have to research it.
Spinneyhill
I don't think they damaged the car. You can see it just at the base of the tree, then the next frame it is slightly higher, then higher again, then back to the start.
DavidMc
I have had some experience with my car in movies. In one movie they "smashed' a number of cars. They were all owned by the film company and they made fibreglass smashed parts that were fitted after the good panels were removed. The resulting smash scenes looked very realistic but none of the cars were damaged and were unmarked after the original panels were re-fitted. The movie company was very considerate of all cars particularly the privately owned ones and owners were invited to drive their own cars for all scenes. It was a very interesting experience over many weeks. I would gladly do it again.
V. K. Shirk
The Mercer looks like the best match. The fuel pump? on the side looks the same. What threw me was the plated radiator. I thought Mercer's were painted???
