Pete Phillips
Is anyone going to the Mitchell Museum auction in Owasso, Michigan next week? There are some rare Buick woody wagons and other Estate Wagons being auctioned off, and I would like someone to take photos and cover it for the Buick Bugle magazine, if possible. The Old Guy
Pete The info I received said that they want $100 entrance fee No auction is worth that . They do have some NICE woodie Wagons though !!
60FlatTop
Here's the news: http://www.abc12.com/story/25890735/mitchell-car-museum-in-owosso-to-sell-collection-at-auctionIt is a 3 hour flight for me, $400 round trip. Being a '64 Riviera owner I could see spending 5 or 6 hundred of the kid's inheritance on that. Bernie
Thriller
http://sheridan.marknetlive.com/view-auctions/catalog/id/4987/?page=1Seven Buick wagons for sale. Very nice, but I don't think the ones I looked at would take a Gold Senior award unless judging was very liberal.if dreaming, it would be nice to have the '53 and '55 as bookends to my Century. Bill Stoneberg
Might as well add the early 50's wagons in so you have a matched set. They do have some nice wagons.
Pete Phillips
Good idea about "Shadetree", since he isn't very far away. I'll send him an email. But as Joe says, that $100 admission fee is a lot to ask! Bet they won't have many bidders.
Centurion
I'd love to see that very interesting 1963 Invicta Estate Wagon that Mitchell utilized as his personal car. Looks like lots of custom touches.
Larry Schramm
Pete,I thought about going but the $100.00 entry fee made it a no go decision. Plus this weekend is the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/AND the Back to the Bricks in Flint. http://backtothebricks.org/ Which we will have the truck therewhich makes a lot of things going on before the auction.Larry
The Old Guy
Back to the Bricks is 2 weeks of fun , and all it costs is the price of the gas you burn ! The people cruise the roads, so you can park and watch the cars .
60FlatTop
I signed up to bid and trying to figure out a way to get there next week. Bill Stoneberg
So what do you suppose makes the 49 Roadmaster worht almost 100 K more then the 50 Roadmaster ?Real shame what the 50's go for...

Personally, I am not too fond of the '49. But they seem to be well liked by collectors. Ben
Bill Stoneberg
Bill, I suspect that much of the price difference was attributable to a difference in condition between the two cars.I will give condition a little push here, as we cant see the cars up close. But 100 K worth of condition on a wagon ? You have to somewhat assume that both wagons were at least a nice 20 footer or else why would they be in a museum. I see this in other auctions too, where 49's go for much more then the 50 - 52 models.
Guest shadetree77
Condition on the two was pretty close. I think it might have to do with the past owners. The '49 Roadmaster was said to have been owned by cartoonist Al Capp. The Super was owned by Milton Berle. Celebrity ownership=more cash. smithbrother
IMO, the 49 cars had/have better lines in most series than the 1950 line upWith the that said have always liked the 50's grill/bumper a lot. I really like the 49 fenders over the 50's too.Just me,Dale in Indy
