  1. I may have missed it but have you taken soil cores for analysis prior to engineering your foundation/floor? Be sure your cement contractor knows what your floor plans are. Your floor finish needs to not be super smooth if you plan to epoxy it. I build my 60 by 100 building two years ago and didn't inform the cement contractor that I planned to epoxy it. It ended up too smooth requiring about 16 hours of diamond grinding prior to applying the epoxy. If you plan to epoxy, check with a company called Epoxy Coat. Excellent product and help. My lowest commercial quote was 25K. I did it myself for less than 3K. Garagejournal.com has great advice and videos. I would agree with Matt, if you are going to spend extra money on insulation put it in the roof. I have 12 inches in mine. Just my TCW. BOB SMITS
  2. Jim, if we adopted the "waste of time and money" in the old car hobby your business would decline. I do think you are correct in theory though. The estimate to do my 34 ft GN was a thousand dollars. Bob Smits.
  3. I think one solution to security is to have a high quality system. If you come on my property your image is going to be in the "cloud". It won't help to disable my electric service as I have 24 hours of battery back-up coupled with cellular alerts.
  4. Glenn, the photo is of Daum Winter Scenes. The Galle is in a different cabinet. With many insurance plans you can buy a rider for a specified amount without appraisals. If you have a claim you will have to document the value of the loss. If you don,t have good records you may be in trouble. I agree with Larry and all of us "self insure" to some extent. If a loss is not going to effect my quality of life I don,t worry about it.
  5. I agree with Nick. It you can afford the collection you can afford the insurance.
  6. Thank You, I don't know why I forgot about Rock Auto. Bob Smits
  7. I need a replacement radiator for my 73 Centurian and my local parts store can't find one. Does anyone know of a source. Thanks, Bob Smits
  8. I have been unable to locate a 10 bolt differential cover gasket for a 73 Centurion. Any suggestions or do I just need to make one. Thanks, Bob Smits
  9. Thanks Brad. After lying under the car for 20 minutes this was my impression unless there was an easy access that I wasn't seeing. Also the antifreeze I drained out looked very clean. I have pulled the radiator already and will have it flow tested. Has anyone had experience with the Gano coolant filters? Thanks, Bob Smits
  10. Can the block drains be removed on a 455 Centurion without removing the exhaust manifolds? I have been under the car and I can't even find them. Do I even need to worry about draining the block when flushing and replacing the antifreeze on a car that hasn't been driven in over 10 years? Thanks, Bob Smits
  11. Brad, thank you so much. I will print this off and put it in my chassis service manual. Bob Smits BCA 43855
  12. In a recent post Brad and JohnD were discussing engine options for the 455 in 72. Were there any options for 73 other than dual exhausts? The window sticker on my 73 Centurion lists the engine option as A9. Thanks, Bob Smits
  13. JohnD1956, my 73 Centurion with 55K was purchased from an estate along with a 90 Jag about 10 years ago and has been sitting in my CC car building ever since. I am vacillating between going through the entire fuel system verses installing a inline filter and waiting to see what comes out of the furl tank. I would like to drive the car locally for a while and am not too concerned about a mechanical failure. Down the road my wife and I will use it to tow our vintage 1970 Airstream Bambi.
  14. JohnD1956, Thanks for the "heads up" on pre-fuel pump filter placement. Is there a filter associated with the fuel tank pick up and do I need to drop the tank for inspection? Thanks, Bob Smits BCA 43855
  15. Thank you again. Is there a source for the paper filter at the carb? Bob Smits BCA 43855
  16. Thank you for both replies. As you can tell I have never replaced one of these filters. Has anyone installed a filter in front of the fuel pump and is there any reason not to? Thanks, Bob Smits #43855
  17. Back working on the 73 Centurion this week end. Should there be a fuel filter on the 455? I have pulled the leaking radiator and have all new hoses to install. Is there any way to tell if the fan clutch is working ? What is the 3rd hose coming out of the fuel tank? Sorry for all the questions, I am usually working on early Cadillacs. Thanks Bob Smits
  18. Anyone who has driven a Dodge 4wd pick up through the "Death Wobble" experience can relate to this. The vehicle is uncontrollable for many seconds. Bob Smits
  19. NTX5467, Thank you for the reply. Bob Smits
  20. Would somebody be so kind as to look up the part number. I do not have a Buick master parts book and my Buick dealer gave me a blank stare when I asked the same question. Thanks, Bob Smits
  21. Passport moved my 14 Buick from PA to TX. Not cheap but better than making the round trip myself. I was very satisfied. bob smits
  22. Also mount a quality fuel filter between the tank and the pump, do not rely on the small filter that comes with many of the electric pumps.
  23. At the Iowa Gas Auction this August 20% of the signs sold for over 1K and 10% sold for over 2K. Top price was 35K. Like automobiles, people are willing to pay for rarity and great condition. Non automotive paper advertising is also going through the roof such as Brewery advertising. Just my TCW. Bob Smits
  24. Wasn't there a post within the past 2-3 years about a new technique for block repair out of England or Europe? Bob Smits
  25. Congratulations, by the way did you find a cause for the Hudson overheating on the Vintage tour?
