  1. I have seen some vehicles from the teens done in chrome instead of nickel or just black paint and they look awful!! The restoration work was done by a hot rodder shop that loves chrome (which is great for the appropiate vehicle) but was so out of place and deterred the rest of the restoration. Unless you are going to cut and chop the vehicle, original in my opinion looks the best.

    help

And I would makd the title.. "Help with 1939 Buick Special engine removal"
  3. I have one of the jacks that has the Buick script like the Cadillac jack and it was painted black gloss as near as I can tell.
  4. On some of these installations you might need to get the molding real warm in hot water and then insert into channel
  5. Cheaper by the dozen is a good rule of thumb??
  6. Joe, Having been a service rep for Buick in the 80's, my first question is does the car have any aftermarket anything???? The reason I ask that is because if it does have things like alarm system, remote keyless entry, remote starter, etc..... I would remove them all before I tried to do any diagnosis. There were/are a lot of extremely poor installations of that stuff that causes all types of problems and the problems increase where one of the modules go bad. Then if you go to section 8A in the manual, there should be a pin out of the fuse block to get you going.... but check for non factory wiring first and remove that first. Good luck.
  7. I have see these before, but I always thought they were a rear view mirror with a search light combo. This the first one that I have seen chromed. The other ones that I have seen bofore have always been black. Also the other ones that I have seen have had a clamp on the end where the wires come out to attach to the windshield frame.
  8. The first thing I would do is join the Buick Club of America. Buick Club of America - BCA - Welcome They can guide you to a local club. Both organizations will be of a great help.
  9. Do you have any pictures, thread sizes, length, etc. There might be someone that has some extras.
  10. I would say that it is a chime module for a 1995 GM vehicle. The module was built on August 29, 1994
  11. And helium would do what??? Make it lighter?? Don't think so.
  12. Like Bill, I was also walking through a self serve salvage yard and found my 63 Buick Skylark wagon in the yard. All the memories came back. The one thing that was gone was the factory air conditioning.
  13. A word of caution. Some of the "drop in refrigerant" that is being sold is propane. I would be very careful and read the can before you put anything other than R-12 or R134A in your vehicle.
  14. I would keep the V6 and if you wanted more power, get a 3800 v6 supercharger engine and put it in the car. Or maybe a turbo V6 from a Grand National.
  15. It might be one of those cars that was converted to a truck during WWII so the owner would be able to get more gas during the war. There were quite a number of cars that were converted at that time.
  16. Interesting thought. I also agree with Jfranklin that if your car came with R-12, you did not need to remove the R-12. R-12 was just not sold in the US since the early/middle 90's to anyone without a license. Depending on the vehicle, the R-134A will not work in cars older than about 1995 depending on manufacturer but I know that many GM cars can be retrofited back to about 88 if my memory is good. As for the guy running around with the sniffer, he would get zero R-12 reading unless the system is leaking which if that is the case, then unless it was just refilled with R-12 just prior to the show, there would probably be noting to detect. I will ask around some of my contacts after the first of the year. Cheers to a great Christmas and Holiday season. :-)
  17. A word that I told my auto tech students,....If you can not get it started, you cannot get into trouble, but if you cannot stop it, ..YOU ARE IN TROUBLE.
  18. I would first check ebay. Then amazon.com
  19. Saw a note that he is playing Grandpa in Colorado
  20. I would argue that the main reason that GM was put together by Billy Durant was that he recognized the economies of scale and had that vision while the other under capitalized manufacturers were disappearing. If you look at Durants' activities, he raised capital and bought companies, raised capital, purchased companies,...to his end when the Duponts took over control in about 1920 with Alfred P. Sloan running the show. That formula played out over time with only a very few car companies left after WWII. That understanding was part of the DNA of GM until the bean counters got control of GM starting with Roger Smith in 1980 and he started selling off the assets in an attempt to appease the bankers of wall street on quarterly earnings targets regardless of what was good for the long term viability of the business.
  21. If I was guessing, it has that Ford look first, or maybe a Chrysler???
  22. I have been told by a number of very knowledgeable and experienced persons that the best thing to seal a cork float today is to coat it with super glue.
  23. Does that put a new meaning to the opportunity to be flying low???
