  1. That's almost like asking what oil to use or which spark plugs, there's dozens of choices and most would work fine. You didn't say what engine package you have(consider taking 3 minutes to add a signature line?) but if you have either turbo motor your gonna get more than a sound upgrade from a free flow exhaust. Power will go way up (I documented a 30HP gain on one TC years ago with my silly little G tech meter that were all the rage back then)and milage will as well. However if you just have a muffler put on your not gonna see as much as a well thought out system. The TC exhaust system includes two inline baffles(that I've not seen on any other turbo Mopar from the era) and a serious pinch down where the system goes over the axle. SO my recommendation is that you address the whole system with a quality 2.5" mandrel bent set up. My exhaust guy in Costa Mesa CA charges me about $500. for a downpipe to tailpipe for a 400 Series Stainless Steel system. It's the first mod I do to any of my project cars. AJ
  2. I'm a buyer on your stock 16V manifold when youre done with it...
  3. Not trying to sound negative Alex but your car isn't running to it's full potential. Notice how it doesn't want to rev off of idle? Of course you did, that's why you kept the revs above 2K most of your vid. I would start by checking the ignition componants, plugs, wires, rotor, cap and timing. Likely most of that stuff needs to be replaced. Try that then repeat the vid and we'll give it another listen
  4. I bought a 16V car 8 or so years ago, owner had passed and his wife contacted me because she knew me thru the TC club. She said it had been sitting for years, her husband had spent a great deal of money on a head gasket replacement years earlier and it never ran again. He loved the car and owned since new so didn't want to sell it because he was sure it was 'something simple' Royal cabernet/ginger car 5 speed car. So I dragged it home from east SF bay area on a dolly(also picked up a nice low milage SRT6 on the same trip ) Back at home it needed a fuel pump and a tank cleaning but still wouldn't run but would return an occasional 'pop'. Took some digging but I found that the camshafts(tho they are the SAME SHAFTS but are indexed differently, 90 degrees apart) were 'reversed' IN was in EX spot and visa versa. I also found $4500. in receipts in the glovebox from the HG "repair" Fired right up and ran smooth as butter after that. I felt bad for the previous owner. If there is a point here it's yeah, the HG repair is doable *IF* you know what you're doing. If not you'll spend a buncha money and time and she may never run again. I'm curious Alex as to where this car is and what the color combination is ?
  5. Uh, if you meant THIS WEEKEND in Pleasanton then yeah, you'll find dozens of TC's at the four points Sheraton there...
  6. I rearranged the garage a little, cleared out the path to get the Yellow TC out, put a new battery in and she fired right up Been maybe 8-10 months. Test drive went well, still hates going into 2nd gear. I had 90% of my ducks in a row to drive 350 miles to Pleasanton and then the roadblocks started. Ex wifes nephew in SF Bay are is very sick (brain tumor ) so she's going to visit I will have the kids. Still could make it work with a little help from my family to check in on them. Then I found out the call schedule has been switched and I'm on trauma call at the university. Two strikes is all it takes for me to heed the signs. Big red octagon that reads STOP. Can't make it for the 4th year on a row. Sorry Hemi and gang
  7. PP bolts? Throw those stock ones right in the trash and never think about them again. I'll bet you have lots of oil pan bolts laying around which fit perfectly and are a high quality faster. Locktite for sure tho...
  8. Reap, I did get your PM pics. Here's the issue (you don't have BTW) Twice now I've seen 16V TC's with the WRONG pressure plate. See how the correct one(that you have) has that little raised area where the TOB rides? Without that (like a standard strait fingered diaphragm) the 'wings' or ears on the 16V specific TOB will drag against the fingers. I have even seen one TOB cut it's way thru the fingers and end up INSIDE the PP laying next to the flywheel!! That was a mess. Not too sure why yours is contacting the inside of the case tho, are there any signs of damage or modifications to the bellhouse mating area?
  9. Now THAT Alex is the perfect reason to revive a ten year old dead thread. Did you by chance get the YBB from Florida? I saw one there back in the day... I think we have some 16V Masi fans and support in KC, do you know Paul D (16V Masi 89 CSX, 16V Masi Mini van)
  10. For 15 or so years every time I've stumbled across and eclipse/Laser/Talon turbo in the J yards, I've grabbed the teeny little Intercooler from the passenger wheelwell. By it'self it's a joke, cut the cores out and use 3" aluminum pipe tubing split in half and it's a perfect top and bottom end cap. Weld two cores together it's a GOOD intercoolerZ(I have that in Woody), compact, thick, with short vertical rows. Weld there cores together and its a GREAT intercooler. Guess what, three cores welded up fit PERFECTLY in the nose of any TC, ever noticed the loovers in the lower spoiler? Theres a whole lot of nothing right behind those. Three of my TM's have the triple Talon IC's. So not sure where we heard that the front end of a TC doesn't have room for an IC but that's 180 degrees from what I've found. Now not everone is gonna have the parts or tools to make that work BUUT, a nice compact, long, short vertical flow IC from the aftermarket will fit behind the loovers without a struggle. Frozenboost air to water IC is proven, is cool, it works, it's compact but in this man's opinion, ugly. Like a giant wart underhood. I had to battle with my fab guy to NOT put one on RedBox(yeah, you TM guys know what I'm talking about, anyone else that's curious turbo-mopar.com search the term RedBox)
  11. Well fer cryin out loud show us the pics with the new wheels, sheesh
  12. So Uh, what's the date today Chris? By any chance are we in April?
  13. Getting a lil jump on your 4/1/16 post are you Martin? You got me with one of those many years ago...
  14. No that's a late build car, the cut off I've seen for the early vs late (and associated running change upgrades) is July of 1988 not 89.
  15. What's your build date Emmett, if its after July of 88 you got lots of the 90 upgrades *without* the airbag wheel you dislike
  16. What's this rust stuff you guys speak of?
  17. I'm not currently adding to my collection(but if I were I'd be looking for a black or Royal Cabernet car like yours ) but I'll point out a couple things that could help you sell it. In 1990 the TC's received SUBSTANTIAL improvements and upgrades over the 89 model year. The biggest improvement of course was the addition of and airbag steering wheel but there were also NUMEROUS smaller desireable upgrades. Your car as a 'late build' 89 has many of those. Probably the most important thing to the 'Big Power' guys(as you know the 16V motor is everything to some collectors such as myself) is the "common block" engine that was shared with the then new 2.5l displacement motor. The block was much stiffer and was outfitted with a different forged crankshaft. Some of the other late build improvements you have are a K frame with two pivot points instead of one and a stub strut rear bolt. I've added just that frame to earlier cars and can tell you it is a noticeably better handling/driving car after that. There are a bunch of smaller upgrades like higher quality(safer) fuel lines that go *around* the valve cover instead the annoying over the top lines. Trim bits as well, fabric speaker covers instead of goofy fuzzy ones, rubber strut covers instead of crack prone and less attractive plastic 'dinner plate' styles. the list goes on, take away is that you have a late build Common Block equipped 89 I do know a few guys nationally into 16V cars, maybe post where the car is located?
  18. I'll throw my 3cents (an extra penny cause I just noticed that I'm a "senior Member" here ) I've had 6 TC's(down to 3 now) and tho I've managed to keep the suspect factory brake system performing adequately, I would have no issue with a complete swap out if it comes to that. I did upgrade the fronts on a couple cars to the 11.25" rotors/calipers/spindles to get added WHOA! power. It's not a direct bolt on, I remember having to weld ABS sensor tabs and maybe something else? Ghosty, It doesn't sound like you were at the TC Nats meet a few years ago(I know I've seen you at a couple of them) when our guest speaker was one of the Teves engineers. Right about the part in his lecture when he said that a good stiff bump could cause complete system failure from 3 different mechanisms was when I lost confidence in the finicky stock set up... For now I'll just keep em bled and change accumulators every so often. EDIT: BTW Don, where are you and your new-ish to you 90 TC Located? Here's a bit of trivia for you to chew on. EVERY 90 4 cylinder TC is a 16V 5speed...
  19. I found a PERFECT black soft top recently in a J Yard and I'm gonna swap it onto my white car(has a brown top as factory issue). The brown top is leak free and in pretty good shape. Come get it, you can have it. Reaper, I thought you said you got that 16V motor from Cindy, Tom K. (XtremePU) says it was his?
  20. Offset should be 35 or 38, you can get away with 40 but that's moving the wheel pretty far in. I had a set made back in the day thru friend of a friend kinda thing, they showed up 45 offset and were non returnable I used some 5MM spacers but theres a scary amount of thread holding each lugnut on that way
  21. I don't check in here as much as I used to Vegas so I tend to respond to old threads, do you have an update on this condition ? My fiorst thought is the cam is a tooth advanced but lotsa things it could be... Also, what city are you in?
  22. Awe C'mon Hemi, you were young once you know, back when you and your friends were driving steam powered cars WheelSport since your sig doesn't say which engine package you have I'll just assume its a SOHC turbo. Unlike our conservative Mechanic friend I too like a good Wide Open Throttle blast, heck hardly a day goes by that I don't get an opportunity for WOT Is your TC still stock, want 30+ more horsepower? Invest in a good exhaust, turbo motors respond dramatically to decreased backpressure. It's the first mod I do to any of my turbo cars Careful tho, after that you'll want 30 more then 30 more...
  23. All the early 89's I've seen have fuzzy speaker covers. If that was a REALLY early car and you had seen inside the trunk, it would have had the inboard trunk strut supports. They're dumb. They absolutely kill the trunk carrying capacity. I've only seen 2 TC;'s like that but I'm sure there are more. Two weeks ago I scored a PERFECT black soft top from a 91 Black/Ginger car in an Anaheim yard. It will find it's way onto my white TC
  24. My red TC is my favorite 'driver', it's just so comfortable and tight handling with nothing more than a high flowing exhaust, 14PSI boost and some upgraded rear springs BUUUT it has a bad valve guide or two (the exhaust valves go 'out of round' on the 16V heads, all we have checked have this issue) so the intermittent puffs of oil smoke are annoying to say the least so it's been 'resting' a year or so. My yellow TC is very fast with all the modifications (it *was* the worlds fastest TC but there is a black one in Wisconsin that I think would put me to shame now )but it has an unkind clutch( the transmission has been swapped to a 523 with a positraction differential) that takes some away from the driving pleasure so until I drop the trans and put a more manageable clutch in, it's on garage duty, not daily driver. Leaves me with the white TC, last summer I drove it 4-5 times per week whenever I wasn't hauling work supplies or kids. This summer it's getting larger injectors, larger intercooler and a higher flowing turbo. If the clutch holds up to that I will drive it every day. of course we don't have road salt or much rain
