1965 Riviera - New Black Rubber Floor Mats (Cars)
gungeey replied to Brtele's topic in Buick Riviera
I'll counter by saying I have been a CARS customer since the days of the stapled together catalog. Have plenty of receipts both big and small. Ordered 63-65 repro radiator caps several times over the years, the most recent one was the wrong one ( per me and an original radiator). They said i have the wrong radiator. I sent it back to them, told them keep it and stick it wherever they might find pleasure. A couple months later they sent the right cap. Thought I would give them another chance a year or two later and bought their "Made in USA" power steering pump hose. "Singsung" printed on the hose when it arrived. I even wrote a thread here about it here. The last few times dealing with them have been piss poor. Enough so that though it makes my projects more time consuming, I use other sources. Enough so that I'll take 5 minutes out of my day to write this. Be upfront when you make a mistake. Everybody makes them. Don't lie and say Made in USA when it's overseas parts. Customer service matters. Steve M ROA9236 BCA41591 -

One of my favorites: "Putty and paint make a car what it ain't". ๐ค

Didn't they have the Max Trac option in 71? That would be an oddball. I think if the shop was greedy they would of not sent you off but said it needs to be done immediately. Likely, they don't want it in. You need to find a competent shop you can trust. My opinion: If 15 bills guarantees my problem goes away, I would write the check. Or else learn to do it myself. Good luck in your endeavor

Use the same basic system for the L and R grill extentions. They have some fake windows that need to be blacked out.

Now after the paint flashes clean the spray off of the chrome to be exposed with lacquer thinner and small rags. Again, make quick work. Don't get married to the project

Now spray with the finish coat. Top picture is Eastwoods. Bottom is Seymours lacquer Rallye Wheel Paint

I take a file to all the edges of the finned areas and the egg crate of the center grill. I'm speaking of the back edge only here. The rough areas will be glaring when the lights are on. Avoid the chromed edges Make quick work of it

Homebrew hacker refresh. Not calling it a restoration. I'm not shipping parts to the chrome house. Just taking what I have (good quality used parts) and cleaning up. Follow along if you like, maybe use my job as a template for your own project..Chime in with your improvements or just say it looks like crap... ๐ The proprietor at this shop has thick skin ๐คฃ Start by cleaning with dawn dish soap and a bristle brush. Then shine up the chrome with the steel wool. Supplies: โข 00000 steel wool not 0000 โข lacquer thinner โข Painters tape โข Paint. I find Seymours Argent Silver better than Eastwood. Eastwoods has a blue hue that takes from the Grey. Both are close enough. ๐ The only spots I use primer on is the top of the grill, the ribs of the parking light surrounds and the bezel below the surrounding. I used SEM high fill primer to fill or minimize pits. OK, on with show and tell ๐คช

Is it my imagination or are there fewer Rivieras for sale?
gungeey replied to Deadpurpledog's topic in Buick Riviera
Most Rivieras brought home by me were never advertised. More than once I got out my BCA Roster and wrote a few letters to those who might have what I wanted. Parts vendors often have a good idea as to who's getting ready to sell. Talking to those most active in the hobby nets good results. Regional coordinators in car clubs AACA ROA etc hear rumors ,too. It's nice to have the pick of the litter before cars hit the market, especially the cars that were never really designated as "FOR SALE". All it takes is a little motivation, some patience, the right questions and a telephone. Over 100,000 63/4/5s were manufactured. They're out there. But the best ones rarely make it to eBay. -

Concours 1965 Buick Riviera GS heading to Mecum next month!
gungeey replied to ericisback's topic in Buick Riviera
Plenty to choose from if that one doesn't strike your fancy, Pat. https://www.raleighclassic.com/vehicles/1948/1965-buick-riviera-gs -
I thought we had a rule around here that new people with wildcat coupes had to post pictures? Anyway, my left nut (๐) if you look closely, it's comprised of steel with stainless stamped over it. That's original. The originals have a tendency for the stainless shell to deform then shear. You then have a battle to remove them. I use ones like on the R. I'm don't look to get judged at shows etc. The original style is also reproduced made of solid stainless. That's probably what you want. I think they are 125 a set.. another reason I use what I do.

If it were me I'd disconnect the carb again and pivot through the range of motion. And find where it's getting hung up at. Maybe a piece of gasket is in the throttle bore. Maybe a screw on a butterfly is missing and is a little cocked. Maybe two linkage arms are rubbing... What about the linkage from the firewall Whatever is catching, if it binds at a higher rpm it's going to be a problem

Here's a Buick joke for ya... Q: What do you call someone who can get any obscure part from a catalog? A: A Chevelle owner
-
Thats what I figured. See those braces under the floor. What happens is they get filled with debris. Leaves, pine needles, pebbles. The water just sits. It's one thing to replace floor boards. You have nothing but punky rot to attach them to. Looks like a Boston or Buffalo daily driver from 40 years ago.

It's beyond my paygrade to make that determination. That is for you to decide. I remember seeing a Model A at a car show. Had one of those poster stands next to it with a picture of a rusty fender leaning against an outside barn wall. The car owner said that was all he started with. The point is, any car can be resurrected. I've driven cars like yours. To work. With kids in it. They were just old shitboxes in running driving condition. But this isn't the good old days anymore. Parts have dried up, and when you find them the price tag definately has some heft. Also, you may be new to the hobby. Old cars are choosing a dog. There's puppies good for a beginner dog owner, and there's dogs that are tempermental and not a "starter pup". I would say 1st Gen Rivieras are not beginner hobby cars. I think your money and time is better spent buying a nice solid 3 or 3+ Condition car and go through sets of tires driving it. With reasonable care, for the rest of your life if you so choose. Believe me, even a well sorted car will give you plenty of opportunities for wrenching, repairs etc. Go price out a real radiator or transmission overhaul. Still plenty of opportunity to spend money.๐ Is the carpet out of the car? lets see a couple pictures in the area where the front seat bolt down...

To my knowledge, No. Someone with a good amount of experience would get a "close enough" cup for the body mount and patch up the floor pan. "To get it on the road" depends on how daring you are and what the State of Tennessee will let you get away with. I

You need a good rust free used trunk pan. Basically, you need a parts car for your parts car

Hi Tom, the ends are rebar bent in a 90ยบ angle. Fuel hose over it to protect the finish.
