  1. Curt, that is way cool. Do you have any pictures of the passenger compartment? Perhaps with someone sitting in it to give perspective to the size?
  2. I think the value proposition for a "car finder" has gone way way down. Anybody with a car can post a few pictures somewhere on the Internet and all the marketing needed has been accomplished in about 2 hours. So the OP's conclusion about "car finding" being a perilous business is true. There is really no value in the work and if someone with a car has access to the Internet the "car finder" is cooked.
  3. Regarding the Special Roadster that came out of Nyak. I talked to my dad about this the other night and he clarified the story for me. Ted Billings owned the car for approx 3 months before it went back. Ted owned a restoration shop and they were working on it constantly to keep it running. My dad said it was a real lemon and Ted eventually sent it back and got a refund on his 6500.00
  4. I'm not a Stude expert but 4 door sedans are tough sells as a general rule. Without pictures it is impossible to tell but given the description I would say definitely under 10k. Perhaps someone more knowledgable in Studebakers can comment with more certainty.
  5. Of course we are interested!
  6. Bob, Only keep it if you like it. Sounds like a nice car but if you don't feel the love send it on its way.
  7. I personally like the Sindelfingen catalog bodies better. The market tends to reward the Sindelfingen bodies too, unless the outside coachbuilder really created something special.
  8. Print media is the horse and buggy of the 21st century. Sad but inevitable. I'm sure most of you can remember the days when getting your Hemmings was a big deal. Feel that way now?
  9. I thought it was a pretty good deal for someone. The body is dimensionally correct, made in aluminum and would be at least twice as much to fabricate.
  10. I thought someone had reproduced wheels but if Jim Friswold or Wagner don't know about them then maybe not.
  11. Is the Packard Library online? We have lots of NOS Packard stuff that we can't identify.
  12. Skip, I believe they are the same. Sometimes they are restored to a particular period in their history and other times there are liberties taken during the restoration that may account for differences in the photos.
  13. If the car had a long term owner that is a plus (at least for me). Some buyers (also me) like paperwork so you should include that in your ad. You should post this down in the Packard forum and see if some of the 50s guys will chime in. If it runs good, is fairly solid and the interior and chrome are usable as is I would be thinking 15 to 20k. But although I follow the Caribbeans I don't follow these so I could be low (or high).
  14. That is a cool car. I think your plan was a sound one so most buyers will probably be thinking along the same lines. How well it runs will be important. Perhaps some of our Packard guys can give you a price range.
  15. My "archives" are a mess. I didn't have a lot of time and could not find the originals. I have 2 or 3 Polaroids taken in Massachuetts in 1965. The car only stayed for a few weeks before it was returned to NY. I do have a picture of it on the wall, which is an enlarged scan of one of the Polaroids so it is not that great to begin with, never mind using my phone to capture through the glass of the frame.
  16. It is impossible to put a value on a car without seeing it in person or at a minimum seeing good quality photos. The 54 Packard is a great car and a convertible will always be in demand. However the 135k you saw was for the worlds best Caribbean not a standard convertible. You probably won't have much luck without setting a price so I would advice trying to figure that out first. A really good ad here, the Packard forum and eventually eBay will get the car sold.
  17. The hamb guys will be less tolerant of the words "rat rod" than here.
