  1. The 200-4R has a .67 overdrive ,so you can figure your RPM using this number.
  2. i was told that the only difference between the A and E body engines was the cam and distributor. The E body cam had three grooves behind the front journal and was ground to give more bottom end as the car was heavier. the distributor also had a different curve. The A bidy cam had one groove and was designed to just haze the stock tires.
  3. Mike and Nancy are really on the ball!! I'm glad they answered so fast ,as now I do'nt have to wade through all my stuff.
  4. He can use the third member fron any Buick from 40 to 55. If he wants a highway gear,go with the late ones ,and if he wants acceleration, go with an early one.
  5. I would believe that your friend was blowin' smoke! I have lived in the hometown of Buick all my life and I have NEVER heard of a large series built after 52 that had a straight 8 engine. I am not even sure that the large series would fit under the hood of the 53
  6. Scott, I have a complete set of Bugles so I will see what I can find for you.I joined in the fall of 1969 and my BCA number is 1308
  7. No ,the Caddy had an open drive line ,so the rear end was mounted differently. The Buick also used the front shocks for the upper Aarm
  8. The odometer is an integral part of the speedo head. any competent speedo repair shop can fix your problem
  9. I used the TV cable bracket from a riv .It bolts to the rear carb bolts. TCI has a lock up system that works nicely. You can get it from any hot rod shop.
  10. If the speed registers, the problem is in the speedo head .
  11. I forgot that the West Michigan Chapter of the BCA did put out a technical book and advertised it in the Bugle for some time. You might contact them and see if they still have copies available.
  12. Having general info on the web would be just that, general info!! removing an engine from a 20s -30s Buick is totally different than a 50-60s and the later cars are different again. The best thing to do is either request specific info on the forum ,or contact the tech advisor for your year Buick.the Shop manuals do not help much ,but Motors and Chilton sre good source books for this info.
  13. I know from experience that it is difficult to get pictures good enough to submit for the magazine. i sent my article to Chuck Koch 3 years ago ,and he sent it back with a note that the picture quality was poor. When we got the new editor, I sent the article in again with some new pictures and received the same answer. When I was in Buffalo for the national meet , Robert Snowden ( the new editor) looked me up ,and said that as I had tried twice ,he would see if he could get some quality pics. When you find this kind of dedication, you have to feel that you have the right people at the helm of your magazine.
  14. The 57=58 pumps will interchange ,but the 57 was cast iron and the 58 had a heater hose connection and was die cast aluminum
  15. The Bugle can only print what they receive. If you saw something that you thought should be in the Bugle, why didn't you take a picture and send it in?? If you read the editors column ,you will see that he practically begs people for articles. I for one am VERY PLEASED with the new editor, and think the quality of the magazine has improved trmendously.
  16. I put a TA-112 cam in my 73 Riv GS and it worked fine! The GS was a cosmetic option in 73 and you had to order the Stage -1 option to get the big cam .I also changed from 72 to 73 jets and installed a 350 distributor. The 350 had an advance curve almost identical to the 70 Stage 1 and it made the car much better. The performance and mileage both went up considerably.
  17. AK buickman, I did not go on the tour but Denny lives right down the road from me and I will ask him. It was probably his as he had the car at that time and was an engineer for Buick. he was one of the engineers responsible for the Stage 1 Buicks that were the terrors of the drag strip back in the early 70s
  18. The car on display at the meet in 1978 was the Riviera Silver Arrow . It now resides in the Buick Archives at the Sloan Museum
  19. The AMT kit used Denny Manner's 66 GS riv for the measurements, and it is a senior BCA winner. They picked the best !!
  20. You can buy a new Edelbrock performer intake from any number of speed Equipment catalogs.Jeggs, Summit , Ta Performance and Poston to name a few.
  21. The 320 engine should be able to pull that gear. I have a 263 in my Super and the 3.42 is a good choice . you have to watch that you don't get the engine lugging hard enough to open the power circuit as that will kill your mileage. My manual says that the standard 3 speed tranny had a 3.02 to 1 first gear in the small series and a 2.53 to 1 first in the big series. The Borg Warner T-10 had either a 2.54 or a 2.20 first if I remember correctly ,so you won't gain much in the starting gear, but you will have more options after you are rolling
  22. I buy WD-40 by the gallon and use a spray bottle . Put the car on 4 jack stands and start at the front and go to the rear spraying EVERYTHING!!! My cars sit on a cement floor in an unheated building for 6 months and when I take them out in the spring they show no signs of rust. I NEVER start them after fogging them and have left one as long as 3 years without any visible damage. I also spray the chrome and the wheels ,as the wheel nuts have a tendency to show rust
  23. Bruce, that must be in another post. If he has a 2,73 gear in the rear with a straight 8 he definitely does not need any more . I have a 3.42 in my straight 8 and that is all my engine can handle.
  24. I believe the only 4 barrels for the 364 were on the 57-58 Electras and Invictas. The 364 was used through 61 on the LeSabre but I think it was only available in a 2 barrel
  25. The principle behind the rings is to hold the intake in the proper place while the exhaust moves. The exhaust because of its length moves like a snake when it heats up .Heat will cause it to grow and when it cools off it will return to normal size. I have seen mechanics leave them out and experience no problem ,so if you have three in place ,you will more than likely get by nicely. I am surprised that they had to remove so much iron to straighten you intake
