1. Always ask a lazy man the easiest way to do something . I am REALLY LAZY!! You are welcome.
2. The rear shocks on a 55 were mounted to the brake backing plate and connected to the chassis with a link. Later cars with tubular shocks did not need this feature.
3. Rather than replace the sock, if you install an inline filter under the car it will be much simpler to change, and will serve the same purpose.
4. I think it is a great idea. Usually by the time my 3 years have expired ,my card is a wreck. I for one am totally in favor of a plasticized card .
5. Congratulations to the Hawkeye Chapter for your work in getting the Blackhawk! It is a car that Buick should build ,but unfortunately won't. Harold( who is a member of the Buicktown Chapter) probably knows as much about the Blackhawk as the men who built it, and will show it well. He might even give you a ride if he has time.
6. John, if you go to a Midas or any muffler shop with a bender, they can make one for you. I have had all my systems made by a shop in town for 20 years.
7. If what you are looking for is raw power, look no further than the 70-72 GS 455 stage 1 !! They can smoke the tires and with a little tinkering will run low 13 quarter mile times.I have one with a 200-4R overdrive that runs low 13s and pulls 17-18 MPG on the highway. With decent tires, they will ride and corner quite well.
8. My wife said "every one picks on you because you are PICKABLE!! " My sister says it because I am "DISPICABLE" You make the call!!
9. http://www.factoryautomanuals .com has good originals at reasonable prices. i have known Dan for years, and he is a good man to deal with.
10. there have been numerous posts about the pros and cons of silicone fluid. I personnaly do not think it is necessary, but many in this group think it is. I have heard horror stories about both types of fluid, so it is really a personal call. i have had regular brake fluid in my 40 Buick for 30 years and I have redone the system twice, once when I purchased the car in 1972 and again when I redid it in 1988.The brakes have always worked well and I see no reason to change. This car is used reguarly and has been driven by me over 90,000 miles. Perhaps the people experiencing problems with their brakes do not use their cars as much and the silicone fluid works better for them.I do know that most people using silicone fluid have hydraulic brake switch problems. It is really up to you.
11. If you fire the engine and it runs for any time at all,you should have fuel from the pump. If you don't, the pump is probably bad.
12. If you go to the BCA website, you will find everything you need to know about the Buick Club The URLis :WWW.buickclub.org
13. Bill Schoening is the person with the Brake fluid tester. I do not know anything about it. You can contact him at:shoen@noao.edu
14. If you switch any cars with hydraulic stop light switches to silicone fluid, you should carry an extra switch with you as they only work so long with the silicone fliud. I have never found an answer to why they fail, but they do .
15. It may be that your system is workimg as it should. When the battery is fully charged, the regulator will kick the charging rate down to just enough to maintain the system. this will show as almost nothing on your guage. A test to see if your system is functioning properlyis to drive the car until it kicks to zero ,turn on the lights ,and see if the needlechanges. It should either stay the same or go back into a charging mode.
16. Rest assured ,the LAST THING you need is for me to sing. Bob Beaton is looking into setting up tours from the four corners of this wonderful country, and info will be forthcoming in the near future
17. The engineers at Buick were the ones that told me about the nickel content. I drove my 57 60,000 miles and have driven my 40 over 90,000 miles and have not had a valve problem. Perhaps it is because both of these cars were driven when leaded gas was available, and the lesd was distributed on the valves and seats. I was apprehensive about the problem a few years ago, and pulled one head from the 57 to check for recession .There was none and I reinstalled it and towed my Airstream to Key west .I wonder if the fuels in your area are different than ours,as that would explain the difference
18. Your car should run fine on the 93 octane available today. You do not need either the octane boost or the lead additive. The Buick blocks have a higher nickel content than most ,so they do not suffer valve recession like some engines do. I pulled an Airstream trailer all over the country with my 57 and never had a problem.

20. I wish it was $10.00 ! I paid $12.95 for it and it doesn't even have a radio, but it only has 56k on the odometer,so it will probably make it to your house.

22. The primary voltage should be 12 volts or more ,depending on how hot your battery is. The voltage to the distributor should also be 12 or better during cranking ,and drop to 7-8 volts when running.
23. I just bought a Corvair,so I think I will park it in Norb's drive way ,as that will be the ultimate humilation !

The Old Guy (Joe Taubitz)

24. I have a couple of the flags mentioned, but I can't for the life of me remember when or where I got them. I guess they call it a senior moment, but I think I am getting "sometimers disease" .It is not as bad as Alzheimers ,but almost
