1. I bought 87 octane for $1.349 this mornining ,but the fourth weekend is coming ,and this afternoon it was$1,699.Michigan prices are dependent on how big the holiday is
2. The straight 8 filter only filtered the oil going to the rocker arms. It was a poor system at best. The filters of today are full flow and the early ones were almost worthless. you will be much better off changing oil more often and not worrying about the filter. I would try cleaning the parts insolvent available at most parts stores.
3. The adjustable advance from Jegs has a plate that allows you to set the amount of advance in 2 degree increments and an allen wrench adjustment on the spring that will set the vacuum required.
4. The BDE gets people addicted that way!!! I think every year we gain members because we enjoy our cars, and the people that come do so because they are really car people not trophy hunters. We always have one or two senior cars on our tours ,because there are many BCA members who work at keeping their Buicks perfect, and still enjoy the fellowship of the group.I'm glad your folks had a good time and tell them "Wecome " for me
5. There could be two explanations for running slower!! Either he broke the tires loose and lost 60 ft times from slippage,or he uncapped them and didn't rejet the carb. opening the headers means upping the jet size bt least 2
6. I don't know whether you are aware if this ,but the author Clive Cussler, who wrote the action series with dirk pitt as the hero, actually owns all the cars he has written about and more!! The Buick Driving Enthusiasts division of the BCA had the opportunity to tour his collection in Golden Colorado two years ago,and he has an absolutely fabulous collection. Not only does he have the exotic cars that Dirk Pitt drove like the Talbot Lago and the Hispano- Suisso ,he has 53 Buick Skylark 58 Pontiac Bonneville Convert 57 Chev convert and probably 50 more.
7. I HAULED A 19 FOOT AIRSTREAM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY WITH A 57 BUICK ,AND THE ONLY MODIFICATION I MADE WAS TO INSTALL AN OIL COOLER. I NEVER HAD A MINUTES TROUBLE . The dynaflow does slip more ,but it is the smoothest towing trans there is
8. The Old Guy

quadrajet carb

The 71-76 Buick 455 Q-jet is also 800 CFM
9. Theoretically the panhard bar should be almost straight when the weight is on it. Then when it moves ,it will pass over center and probably put the wheels back on center
10. The 430 and 455 are externally balanced ans the harmonic balancers will not interchange without rebalancing the engine
11. Depends on how many dogs are in it ,and what breed they are!
12. Hi Mike and Nancy.
It is good to see you involved with the BCA again.

13. Most 6 volt Buicks for some reason used a 5 pin vibrator, but the preceding post is right on! Replace thevibrator with a solid state unit and your problms are solved.
14. I haven't missed a BDE meet yet ,andthey were all great!! Bernice and I will be there ,and Marci and Darrell don't have a Buick anymore ,but will be ricing with us. Wew will be bringing the 57 ,as you can't see out of the 40 when the top is up
15. perhaps the owners feel as I do ,that they will not pay $15-$20 to put their car in a show so someone can pay $4-$5 to look at it. I go to the cruises and I can come and go as I please and park with my friends.
16. 70 years of Buick had some errors in it ,and it sounds like you found one. The 55 264 was a 2bbl and the 264 and 322 both had the same bell housing configuration. the56 trans is a better trans but they will interchange wil little trouble. You can decide what to do about a tranny cooler when you get the trans.
17. Not knowing the compression in your Packard, I don't know if this is applicable or not ,but cutting the octane with fuel oil(2-3) gallons per tank will alleviate the problem. The older cars were made to run on 75 or so octane and will sometimes even run better
Joe T

18. I just finished my biggest adventure! 7400 miles in three weeks in my 37 Buick coupe(455 buick powered).I ran the Hot Rod power tour from pontiac Mich to San Bernadino CA. with 800-1000 other cars, but they ran the interstates and I ran almost all of Rte. 66. I then went up the coast to San Fransisco and did the Oakland bay and Golden Gate bridges and ran US1 up to the redwoods then and over to Bend Oregon. I left Bend and went up to Bangor WA. where I saw my newest Grandson, went to another Grandsons 5th birthday ,and was able, through my son who is a Commander in the Navy, to get a tour of a ballistic missle sub.The trip out was realy interesting as I saw many old buildings and things left from the 50s when 66 was the major route west. I took lots of pics of the coupe in front of some of them. I got pics in front of the Blue Swallow Motel, The Blue Whale,The 100 foot Totem pole,Downtown Oatman, and it was interesting to note that the desert was in bloom, so I have pics of beautiful flowers blooming in the desert. I ran from washington to Michigan in three days on the way home ,with the last day covering 930 miles. I would do it again in a minute if I thought my wife would let me ,but i think I will let it ride for now.
19. I just got back from running the Hot rod power tour to california ,and it is late ,but I must agree that Buick did in fact make some 401 aluminum heads. I will tell you more tomorrow!!!!
20. I don't know why, but some cars have a problem with fuel draining out of the system overnight. The easiest fix is an electric pump to fill everything back up ,but some people frown on using them . I have one on most of my cars, because after sitting for two or three months, they start much easier with the electric pump.
21. I pulled a 17 foot 1935 covered wagon travel trailer to California from Michigan in the 70s and I ran 5 gals of diesel and 15 gals of regular to do away with the vapor lock and it worked well! those old 41/2to 1 engines would darn near run on soft coal.I was running a 32 Buick 90 series and it did a fine job. I ran over 6,000 miles and never had a major problem.
22. I have a thermostatically controlled electric fan on my 37 Buick with a 455 and it cools it quite nicely. The fan only runs in traffic ,or when I stop. I don't know if helps the mileage or not but I have been pulling 18 on the highway with the AC going.
23. I have put over 90,000 miles on my straight eight Buick engine ,and have not used any additives ,and it still runs just fine. It has hydraulic lifters ,so I haven't had to check the valve clearances ,but it must still be within tolerance as it runs great!
24. I have 275x60x15 on my 72 GS ,so you can probably put the biggest 14 you can find.
I missed the 2 on the first post
SORRY
25. I have 275x60x15 on my 7 GS ,so you can probably put the biggest 14 you can find.
