  1. I use 140 gear oil, and if it leaks past the seals, I use moly chassis lube to fill it up. They mix well, and when you hit the right consistency, the leak stops and the reservoir stays full. My 40 has been running since 1972 and over 100,000 miles on this concoction.
  2. I joined the BCA in 1969, and also have a complete collection from volume 1--number 1 ! the first ones were just 2 sheets and pictures glued on Barb gerstkemper got me the copies I didn't have
  3. Measure between the front intake bolts. If it is 8 3/8 inches it is a 322 ---8 7/8 a 364 ---9 3/8 a 401-425. These are approximate measurements, but they are enough different that you can readily tall which nail head you have
  4. I will be going and driving the 69 Sport Wagon I drove to Seattle. I put in an overdrive and it made a REAL highway car out of it. I will be going through Indy and St Louis as I don't like getting anywhere near Chicago. I plan on taking 3 days.
  5. If this Dude belongs to the Classic Car Club ,then he should know that cars recognized by them are "Classic" I hear the word Classic used on 57 Chevys, and although I LOVE 57 Cheys, they certainly are NOT classics. For what it is worth ,I am a "grampa type". I have 17 grand children and 6 great grand children. I also have a street rod, and have had a legitimate "classic" , so I guess I'm just an old Rebel
  6. Barney It is also the same weekend as the "Back to the Bricks " in Flint, and the "Woodward cruise" in Detroit These are very big in this area
  7. 67 Spesial 327 If you check my profile ,you will see that I have a 37 Buick with a 455 Buick engine in it and have been involved with the Buick Modified Division since it was started. I can understand why you are installing the chev engine as with the economy as it is right now, it pays to save wherever you can.
  8. The 320 has adjustable rocker arms and should be able to handle .125 without a problem
  9. 67 Special 327 I'm sorry if I upset you. You can't believe how many people think that any engine will fit anywhere. I was just pointing out some of the pitfalls. If you contact Summit Racing or Jeg's Automotive , they can probably point you in the right direction for the radiator.
  10. Installing a Chev is more complicated than just droppping it in the hole. You will need different moyor mounts, a different trans, and different trans mount. That coupled with the wiring and radiator changes makes it a major job.
  11. Unless you have destroyed the Buick engine, you would be better off to rebuild it. The Chev engine will make the car less valuable, and the Buick engine ,although more expensive to build HP into ,is a better engine
  12. Measure between the front bolts on the intake. If is 8 3/4 inches it is a 364. If it is 9 1/8+ it is a 401-425
  13. The head will fit , but the water outlet will need either some modification ,or you will need to use the later unit. I am not sure what it entails, but that is the major difference. Look at the bolt configuration and the shape of the water orfice. They had 3-4 different shapes on the front of the heads.
  14. I am NOT a purist, but Pete is telling it like it is !! 6 volts has worked for all these years, and there is no reason to change it. If you want to run a 12 volt accessory just install a 6--12 invertor, or use a 12 volt jump box
  15. I took my test in a 1941 Buick ,but i learned to drive on a 29. I bought a 1931 in 1947 and that was the first Buick I owned.
  16. How big is the cam? Does it have the stock lift,? What is the duration ? Are the valves stock or oversize?
  17. John When I talked to Mark last night, he said the dinner was thursday
  18. I guess I;m getting old ! I meant to say that the driven class has age restrictions. Thanks Reatta 1 for bailing me out.
  19. I am not sure what the year restrictions are for the "display' class, but your Reatta may be too new.
  20. I do not have a picture of it,but my grand son built a pinewood derby racer that looked like the "Buick Bug' and he was awarded first in the show competition. hr showed it with a picture of me driving it, and I was very proud of him.
  21. To my knowledge , the first OD unit offered by GM was the one in the 55 Chev Buick never offered an OD for the manual trans
  22. I drove the Buick "Bug" down the drag strip, and drove the Blackhawk around the parking lot giving rides at the regional in PA. I think Roberta and Harold are the lucky ones to take it down the strip I was told that the purchaser was a man name Gary Kuch eho has a museum in Lincoln Neb
  23. The only really dumb question is the one not asked
  24. The first thing I would check is whether the rebuilder did anything to the oil pump. Some rebuilders do not check the clearance from the gears to the cover and just put in a gasket. If the clearance is more than .002 you will lose considerable pressure.
  25. The gas tank could also be the culprit. Junk in the tank is pulled up to the filter sock until the pump is starved. When the rngine quits, the junk falls off the sock ,and it will run until it clogs again.
