  1. And if a cop stops you, tell him that the wheels just locked up and you only have a 1/4 mile to go to get it off the road!
  2. Clear coatings look real fake. Just wax it .
  3. All I know about French law came from the French revolution, and all they were saying then was "Off with their heads" I sure hate to get a speeding ticket there! 😆
  4. Why do you think that it needs rebuilding? This trans is called the "clunk-a-mantic", as it acts like that when it is working perfectly. The shift point is controlled by the carburetor among other things. ( There is one year that uses oil from the engine in order to operate. There are oil passageways through the bell housing casting for this operation.)
  5. Had the same problem with my 48 Chrysler straight eight. I would get compression on the first revolution of the engine, then the valve would stay open. I took the head off and used WD40 and pushed the valves closed. after cranking it over for a long time, the valves cleaned themselves up.
  6. Where to buy a piano hinge? https://www.mcmaster.com/hinges/hinge-type~piano/ Get either a steel w/ brass hinge pin or a stainless steel one, 1/4" pin. Use the cut off ends for the fixed portion on the ends.
  7. My neighbor used to live in Fl. most of the year and in 1946, he showed up in Ma. in the summer with his daily driver, a 26? four door touring car. It had the luggage racks on the running boards with his suit cases neatly tied down, and the side curtains installed. It really struck me as I had never seen such a car before. He came back with it again the next year. My father was driving a 38 Buick at that time. with the lap robe in the back of course. His next one was a 1950 new Oldsmobile. His next car was a 1955 Oldsmobile.
  8. i WAS LOOKING FOR THE TECHNICIAL REASON THAT 212-220 Is THE OTIMUM TEMP.
  9. I have often wondered why 212-220 degrees is to hot to run an engine. Just because water happens to boil at that temperature Does the cast iron care how hot it is? Or do the bearings fail at 212? Serious question, does anyone have an answer?
  10. I once went into my credit union and placed a broacher for snowmobiles on his desk. I told him that I wanted to buy 6 of them in order to open up a dealership. Seeing it was late in the afternoon, he just wrote me out a check and told me that he would fill out the home improvement loan papers tomorrow for me to sign. 🤑
  11. I have noticed that junk yards are going to the very back of their yards and towing out the oldest piece of junk and advertising it on C/L as a long forgotten rare barn find for $10,000 (or best offer) 🤑
  12. When using this tool on a tapered axel, after you tighten the "wing nut wrench", hit the end of the screwed shaft straight in (toward the axel) and tighten the tool again and hit it again. Make sure that you use a BMFR! and be sure you grease the threads first!
  13. When loosening a nut with an impact gun, you should always use a deep 6 point socket. You would think that the heavier weight socket would take away the force of the gun, but the opposite is true. They even make heavy sockets just for this very use.
  14. I have been saving a honey comb radiator out of my 38 Buick for some time now. Several times I was going to scrap it but something always stopes me . I was going to sell it and I tested it. The core is good but the top brass is cracked in several places. It makes a nice ornament though.
  15. I'm surprised that they did not have a chock man ready in case the brake became unlocked, especially that it did not have a rear bumper!
  16. When checking for vibration, please note that when you step on the clutch WHILE STOPPED, the clutch disk is NOT rotating regardless of the rpm of the engine. (WHILE THE CAR IS IN GEAR) While driving, placing the trans in natural and letting out the clutch, the clutch disk and the pilot shaft are rotating at the speed of the engine RPM. PLEASE NOTE THAT I EDTIED THIS POST
  17. Black wall's for me! (With touch of white spats OEM)
  18. I have the same problem with my trailer. Looks good but totally impracticable
  19. Alright! stop kidding yourself, there isn't a man here that wouldn't like to look like him now!
  20. I cleaned out a tank in a f750 without taking it out, using just a strong detergent. It was perfectly clean up to the level of the detergent at the top of the tank and I was happy, it looked like a new tank... But... there was some scuss on the very top that would fall every once in a while that would plug up the fuel line. I had to remove the tank to do the top.
  21. Steve Braverman I recently bought a new compressor and I keep my old one connected as a back up. It is 75 years old and will supply my 4 man shop, including my large sandblaster. Just because it is old, that doesn't mean it is no good. My advice is to buy a new tank if your old one will supply your shop with a constant supply of 90 lbs. air.
  22. I have a Mustang, a 32 roadster, a f100, a f750, a 150, a 250 a 41 CO, an LN8000 and a 9000 CO. But I love my 57 Corvette!
  23. I have cleaned several tanks using a very strong solution of water and a Zep product. I fill the tank to the top and add several handfuls of sand and gravel. Then by using a pressure washer, I agitate the mixture and end up with a spotless tank. It takes some time getting the sand out but the results are worth it. Ps, remove the tank sender first.
