  1. I have had two tops installed and both of then have shrunk to a point that I can not latch them down to the windshield bow. When they were new, it took a little tugging and pushing in order to get them latched. Both installers said to let it sit in the sun and they will be OK. They lied! My question; Should the pins go into the windshield bar all by them selves by just using the top motor or should you have to fight it? Should it be a little loose to allow shrinking in the future? I suspect that the installers are attempting to get out all the wrinkles by stretching it instead of doing it right the first time. What is your opinion?
  2. Today I seen a red Mustang with tan top and a tan pony interior. It looked ugly, so I will scratch that one.
  3. DO NOT CLEAR COAT!!! You will ruin the nice patina on your car! (And it will look like a nice shinny pile of $#!T) It will flake off in a few years and then you will have to repaint your fine original car.
  4. This is my 38 buick with a good rubdown with WD40 mixed with a little ATF.
  5. My 48 Chrysler original paint came out real nice with just a buffing and WAX. I have a surface rust area on the front fender just over the headlight that I sprayed with a spray paint can and then wiped it off before it dried. After it dried, I then applied a coat of wax rubbing off as much as I could. It now looks like a dull area and can't seen from 20'
  6. MINE CAME WITH THE FACTORY WHEEL CHOCK AND A SPECIAL TOOL IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE HUB CAP.
  7. Ah! a treasure from the past. I bought a 48 NY two years ago. had a few things to do to it but got it running and now enjoy it on the road. Mine has ABOUT 40,000 ON IT AND HAS ORIGINAL PAINT. THE PO HAD RECHROMED MOST OF THE CHROME. SEND ME A PM IF YOU NEED ANY GUIDENCE AS I HAVE TINKERED WITH A LOT OF IT. Actually mine is a 49 as they kept building 48's into 49 as there was a problem with the 49's When you start driving it and it goes CLUK, CLUNK, remember, the trans is know as the clunkamatic!
  8. This car has been completely restored., with many new parts, The motor has been rebuilt less than 5000 miles ago. This car is ready to drive with the exception of the convertible top.Absolutely no rust rot!! Excellent paint.New Tan Pony seat upholstery.I am leaving the option open for the buyer to chose the color of the top. It will be included in the sale or you may prefer to buy it without a new top and install it yourself.I never drove it with the top up so you may be the same. The underside has been restored and painted with black ImronThe pic's have been taken last fall and is just as good now
  9. I am selling my 65 red Mustang that has tan pony seats. It has a white top that needs renewing and I am wondering should I install a tan or white top, or should I sell it as is and let a buyer chose a color after he buys it? 🙄
  10. Use Google maps to find the best route. Ps I think they renamed the Tappanzee bridge.
  11. I didn't read every post here but I think that while no one will be stopped by a policeman, if you get into a serious accident your insurance company WILL use any reason NOT TO PAY any damages, even for ones death. This could cost you your house and income for 20 years!
  12. HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH! Now I can use my grease gun after one year of no greasing my cars!
  13. When you have to poke your finger in the oil drain hole for the oil to come out, it's time to drop the pan and clean it! 😅
  14. A friend of mine tuned up his truck and it wouldn't start. He bought another dist. cap and it still would not start. Eventually after pulling out all his hair, he discovered that the two new dist. caps that he bought were made wrong! The manf. paid for all his troubles!
  15. Isn't there a way to wire the money to a bank in the area where you are buying the car and then go to the bank with the seller and finish the transaction there? Or get a bank check from a bank near you that also has a local bank branch in the sellers town.
  16. Roll up your sleeves on your tee shirt and fold up your dungarees about 2". May be put a pack of Lucky Strikes in your tee shirt sleeves. Don't forget the DA hair cut! (apologies to the hairless)
  17. I own a body shop but I don't know how much paint costs now, but my manager does. I hope that he never tells me! 😢
  18. The town next to me has a pumping station that had a gas engine powering the plant. When it was replaced with a diesel, the battery was also replaced... it was over 50 years old!
  19. I have a straight 8 Chrysler and one of the first things I did was to install a new gauge set under the dash. I would never trust a 70 year old oil or temp. gauge. If the stock gauges read the same as the new ones, then I would be really happy!
  20. And if a cop stops you, tell him that the wheels just locked up and you only have a 1/4 mile to go to get it off the road!
  21. Clear coatings look real fake. Just wax it .
  22. All I know about French law came from the French revolution, and all they were saying then was "Off with their heads" I sure hate to get a speeding ticket there! 😆
  23. Why do you think that it needs rebuilding? This trans is called the "clunk-a-mantic", as it acts like that when it is working perfectly. The shift point is controlled by the carburetor among other things. ( There is one year that uses oil from the engine in order to operate. There are oil passageways through the bell housing casting for this operation.)
  24. Had the same problem with my 48 Chrysler straight eight. I would get compression on the first revolution of the engine, then the valve would stay open. I took the head off and used WD40 and pushed the valves closed. after cranking it over for a long time, the valves cleaned themselves up.
