Always wanted to get it back out, instead it has been living under a car cover in my garage for almost 20 years. It rolls, but will need to be trailered. It has a box of spare parts, filters etc. two spare Triumph wheels and the Robert Bentley shop manual that started to come apart so I put the whole thing in page protectors in 3 binders. 5. I had a '55 Ford 2-door wagon (ex-Telephone Co. car) in high school. A buddy of mine & I thought a weekend trip to Yosemite Park would be fun. We traveled up highway 120 to Tioga Pass (9,943 ft. elevation, a narrow, 2-lane WPA road) and stalled out due to the elevation change from the valley where we lived. The drop off the side made the mature pine trees at the bottom of the canyon look like bushes. The other side went straight up. Couldn't get it restarted, so we carefully rolled backwards around the switchback to a short straight section, popped the clutch in reverse, got it running, fiddled with the idle screws on the carb, and made it up and over to Mono Lake, Bodie Ghost Town and north to the 108, and west to home. As I recall, it took us more than the weekend to get home and probably a change in under ware. Those phone company cars were equipped with governors between the carburetor and the intake manifold to limit employee speeding. Luckily, we had dismantled it long before the trip or we may have had to walk home.

  8. Morgan 1957 - $30,000 (Florence, OR) https://oregoncoast.craigslist.org/cto/d/florence-morgan-1957/7436776498.htmlThis 1957 Morgan Plus 4, Chassis #3653, Engine #15108ME, Gearbox #1263 was dispatched to Fergis Motors of New York on April 23, 1957. The inoperable odometer reads 36,596 miles, but it is evident that during it’s sixty-four years that this Morgan has been professionally restored at some time and well cared for. This is an original car in the sense that all of the parts which came from the factory are still with this Morgan. Originally Ming Blue in color, the car is presently British Racing Green on the body with darker green fenders. Initially, this Plus Four was purchased by two separate residents of Mansfield and Huron Ohio, where it resided for 48 years until we, the present owners, purchased it. Three owners in its 65 year history! We bought the car in 2006 and as third owners have owned this Morgan for fifteen (15 )years.Regrettably, due to our age and medical issues we have to sell this Morgan. The Morgan now resides in Northern California where it is parked in its own private garage. We cannot attest to the actual miles on the engine or chassis as the odometer is inoperable. What we can speak to regarding this Morgan is our love for the car and many of its attributes and upgrades that we have undertaken to make the car better, more reliable and enjoyable to drive. This is a solid, very drivable Morgan, and just a fun car to drive. The engine runs strong and well and doesn’t emit any smoke in the exhaust. Upon our purchase, November 2006, we had the Morgan surveyed by a British Car Specialists of Stockton California. They prepared a “punch-list” of repairs and improvements which wouldrender the car to be more drivable in the California heat in our Central Valley. The Buyer of this Morgan will be able to view the inspection document and confirm for themselves upon lookingat our Morgan that the improvements, plus many others, have been done. The improvements themselves account for thousands of dollars of expenditures over other same year Morgan’soffered on this and other websites without as many improvements. To date, the following has been upgraded or repaired on this Morgan:Rebuilt carburetorsTuneupConvert to negative groundNew motor mountsNew alternatorNew fuel pumpNew modern (spin type) oil filterLarger radiator core with rebuildSteering box repairNew radiator hoses, clamps and radiator capRebuilt temperature gaugeSheet metal installation and ducting in front of radiator to increase airflowInstall air dam below radiatorRebuild front brakes (new cylinders and hoses)New jet coated heater exhaust system, with stainless flex pipe plus muffler and tailpipeNew high torque starterChange out to: Xenon Halogen headlights w/daytime running lightsInstall seatbeltsNew ignition switch, keysNew tach cableChange over bench seat to Morgan Factory made leather bucket seatsInstall new Motolita steering wheelReplace speedometer cableRemove and repair gas tank and sending unitUpgrade to LED brake and tail lights, new flasher unitFive (5) new Coker Excelsior radial tires with tubes 5.00 R16 80H (10-16-20)New Optimal battery (6-22-21)This Morgan is an “original” in every sense of the word. While the photos presented with thisad reflects after market replacements and upgrades, such as the Motolita steering wheel andand factory bucket seats, this car comes with the original Brookline banjo steering, starter, generator, exhaust manifold, and seats should the buyer wish to restore to original. This is a highly drivable California Morgan that can be a kick to drive on California freeways. Itcreates many smiles and “thumbs up” gestures from motorists who appreciate a good lookingMorgan.Price? $31,000 oboNote: 1957 original California license plates will be retained by current owner.Inquiries: (916)524-0839

  10. If you like this Cadillac, then you will love this Cord:
  11. My fraternal grandmother was a Harvey girl in the late 1880's. Born during Lincoln's presidency, she left home in Pella, Iowa and began working for the Harvey chain in Kansas City. As I understand it, a Harvey employee could gain free or reduced railroad fares west after working a designated period of time at a Harvey House, moving down the line to another location. She worked her way to the San Joaquin Valley in central California, marrying in 1900 and giving birth to my uncle in 1901 and my father in 1907 at the age of 44, and lived to survive the Great Depression and WWII. Quite a lady in my book!
  12. How about the other direction, going down hills? My father would tell stories of his father having to cut down a pine tree and tie the trunk to the back of his early Model T so he could safely proceed without a runaway situation. I don't know if that was a general concern back then, or great-grandpa just had lousy brakes on his car. This was on a particularly steep unpaved stretch of what is now Highway 101 in California.
  13. I can remember at a swap meet in the SF Bay Area around 1960 or so, Jack Passey had a dark metallic green '53 Caribbean for sale for around $500. Don't know if it sold...didn't care - because it wasn't a Ford!
  14. Google identified this car as a 1941 Studebaker Commander. Looks like the grilles and hood ornaments match...maybe the windshield, too? Here is a closer look at a '41. Best to find a Studebaker expert. Studebaker Drivers Club | The Antique Studebaker Club This is a '42: __________________________________________________________________________ Does it look like buffer burn on the lower front fender and the top of the tail light on the OP car?
  15. Probably not enough to live in a $1,000,000.00 tract home!

Blaupunkt offered the 1st FM car radio in 1952. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ New subject: I've purchased four new vehicles in the last 60 years: 1964 Chevelle El Camino, special ordered when I was 21, an AMX in '68 at 25, a '68 VW the same year, and a 1972 F-100 when I was 30, all three off the lot. After 50 years, I still have the F-100, wish I still had the others. Current statistics of interest: Average age of new car buyers is getting older Research published by the Federal Reserve shows the average age of a new car or truck buyer has grown older over the past decade. It is now around 53 years old. They also note that among new vehicles buyers, the 55+ age group has a 15 percentage point increase since 2000. EV sales have grown exponentially over the past 10 years; however, the ownership demographic has remained relatively the same. The average EV owner continues to be male, aged 40-55 years old, with an annual household income of more than $100,000 (2019). When it recently announced its record-breaking 2021 sales — about 5,600 vehicles sold worldwide — Rolls-Royce also announced the average age of its customers, in the United States and globally, is just 43 years old. That means many buyers are also much younger than that, like in their 20s or 30s.

  19. Automakers Want To Become Order Takers !!! They’re trying to “train” Americans to like this new way: to order the exact specs and accessories you want. My comment: An absolutely revolutionary way to purchase a car! (...if you were born yesterday ) ...read on https://www.motorious.com/articles/features-3/automakers-become-order-takers/
  20. Rivguy: Unless you have "insurmountable" family, health, or business obligations where you are now living, maybe you (and others in your situation) could consider relocating to an area outside of the bay area, or even out of California. As a Calif. homeowner in the 1970's I could see the handwriting on the wall: escalating taxes and property values, increasing crime and drug use, population growth, & increasing commute times and expenses, to say nothing of smog and other pollution. With all of the development even then, the quality of life in my native state was deteriorating. My wife and I spent many an evening considering our situation: good job, local family, friends and church, a growing toddler (with plans for more) vs. the above negatives (and concerns about our suburban home size - my garage and driveway were packed full, too. We took our time and researched many areas of the country comparing job availability, the cost of living, the climate, educational rankings, from grade school through the availability of universities, political trends, health care availability, recreation and entertainment, and whatever else we could think of. We spent extended weekends and vacation time in the communities we thought were a good match to our requirements and tried to absorb the feeling each expressed. Some locales were just a few hours drive away from home, some a short flight. (This was long before the convenience of the internet.) What we ultimately found was that the accumulated equity in our Bay Area tract home covered a very good percentage of the purchase price of a much bigger home on acreage, still near schools, shopping, and medical facilities, and in an area with employment opportunities comparable to my existing job, and reasonable taxes. We rented an apartment for a few months till we were sure about our decision.(We now have a 5 bedroom, 3 bath, 3000+ sq. ft. home with an attached 24' x 36' 3-car garage, a 30' x 40' barn, and my 30' x 60' shop on 10 acres, with access to more local amenities than we will ever use. Still plenty of room to raise chickens, a beef steer, a hog or two, and the wife's horse). Did you know deer will eat thorny roses - and about everything else! Tentative plans call for an additional 30' x 60' building (the Good Lord and my wife willing). To make this long story shorter, if you are sitting in an average $1,000,000. Bay area suburban home with a few years equity and price escalation, there's no reason you couldn't be the owner of at least a few acres in a more undeveloped (yet civilized) locale, that includes all your personal requirements, and stretch out and have plenty of room to expand. P.S. Old cars and old car guys are everywhere! ...2-lane country roads, too.
