  1. The one at I-88 and Route 59 has cut wait times through that intersection at rush hour by half, based on my estimate.
  2. A few years ago Michigan started the Michigan left, which I though was stupid. Make a right then a u-turn at the designated spot. According to the DOT they reduced accidents over 40%. There was one roundabout I used to use daily and after 2 years there were people who STILL couldn't figure it out. IMO it's not the design of the roads, but the novel design of roads. People who drive the same roads over and over (most of us) will eventually either stop paying attention or look for ways to "beat" the traffic. Making changes keeps us engaged.
  3. I would call the insurance company and ask. They probably will tell you they don't make brand recommendations but they MIGHT tell you what features to look for.
  4. I maintain a shareable Google calendar of nationwide Buick, Riviera, and local to me events, mostly cruise nights, fundraisers, and whatever else I find. I look at a lot of sources, like Facebook, Car Show Calendar, BCA, AACA, etc. Based on my searching the data is inconsistent and and scattershot. Related, if anyone wants to co-moderate/maintain it with stuff from their area, I'm happy to give you access so you can add stuff.
  5. Not that it matters, but this car is not in the Chicago suburbs. It's on an auction site and whoever posts to CL defaults to that area. I'm guessing because that's the among the wealthiest neighborhoods in Illinois, but who knows why they do it.
  6. Most Riv are for driving. They're not really museum pieces (and I have 2 so I'm not being a snob), IMO. The volume of sales probably drops in the winter since most of us aren't driving them in winter, and maybe we're assuming most buyers feel the same.
  7. I'm no expert and caveat emptor. I just thought it was cool as this is the first Nickey car (or facsimile in this case) I've ever seen for sale. I remember their commercials from the "gold old days." Plus we used to drive past there to my grandmother's.

  9. Would you send your info to someone you didn't know? And if they were truly attempting a scam, wouldn't they willingly comply with a phony driver's license?
  10. No pix of the "good old days" but lots of memories. My grandparents lived in a small town in Virginia and as my grandma was an "invalid" we went to see them always. We stopped at Stuckey's in Ohio, spent the night in Chillicothe, OH (usually at the Holiday Inn) and scraped the sides of the mountains while they built I-64 through Charleston, WV. The worst was when my grandfather died. Some other family drove up from Central Illinois to pick us up and we drove to Virginia in the winter. My uncle insisted on driving straight through. We got to the Ohio River in Galopolis, OH well after dark. Fortunately for us (not so for others) the emergency vehicles were already on site. The bridge had collapsed (my uncle hated having the radio on in the car so we had no idea until we got there) an hour earlier. We still had to navigate the mountains on Route 60. Traffic was really heavy due to the bridge collapse and the snow. And since there was no I-64 it was a tight, two lane thrill ride around the mountains and I had the pleasure of being in the rear passenger seat, getting glimpses of the valleys below. Our other vacations were on trains, my dad and brother being big railfans. The old Santa Fe Super Chief was the best of them. White linen tablecloths, real sterling silver, fantastic food (probably where I learned to love food), private sleeping rooms, etc. I doubt there was or will ever be a better way to travel.
  11. I hope it gets to someone who will show it off. Cars like that belong where they can be enjoyed.
  12. America's second flattest state: not me either. Oh well, merde happens.
  13. Create google alerts (it's pretty easy) or just search "(brand) car meets near me."
  14. Funk, R&B, House, and punk/ska. My recent obsession: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=the+interrupters+vinyl&crid=1EWSLQDU25WLF&sprefix=the+interr%2Caps%2C124&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_10
  15. Reminds me of the lot Psycho where Vivien Leigh traded one car for another.
  16. The one in Frankenmuth Michigan is focused on convertibles, I believe. it just passed. There was an Impala show in CA recently, too. Also had BelAirs and some other Chevy products. I think. There are a lot of Mustang and Corvette shows, too. The main thing is how far you're willing to travel, I guess.
  17. Gross production numbers should be easy to obtain on most cars. The number with different options might be more difficult. There's a formula to calculate the percentage of production with a certain option is fairly easy, just divide total production by the number produced with that option and you'll get a percentage (# total units/# of the option). If you want to know down to the specific, figure the percent with each option, then multiply those percentages. I wish there were a way to know how many of a production year were still around, but that's probably not possible.
  18. definitely go on activities. you'll meet a lot of people, get a lot of info, etc.
  19. My late father in law worked in a really rough area. He always drove a car in similar condition so no one would steal it from work. Didn't work. Someone did.
  20. Maurice Gaston McGillicuddy. I believe he's a Pisces.
  21. Just browsed the list of 2024 AACA meets on the schedule and I didn't see any in the midwest/great lakes (like 300 miles or less from Chicago). Is there likely to be more Regionals scheduled next year or are they all on the calendar?
