  1. Yes, that's it. I didn't know the bubble had been found.
  2. The Silhouette was stolen out of a parking lot at a motel the night before a car show in the mid 60s and was never seen again. The car was completely hand formed. Image is a screenshot of my Hot Wheels examples.
  3. I'm a card collector primarily. The hobby has gone insane over the past few years, since the pandemic started. Boxes of brand new cards which were overpriced at $85 are now MSRP at $600. People who collect because they love the hobby are being forced out by flippers who don't even know who the cards are of. There are many instances of people posting videos and not knowing how to pronounce the players names. Most of us who are long time collectors are really looking forward to the day when these flippers move on to something else and the hobby goes back to how it should be. I have my own website documenting my collection. cardboardhistory.fotki.com. yes, these are automotive trading cards and yes, they are on there. I've been collecting since 1988 with no breaks.
  4. Rust-Oleum does not react well with clear, even their own tends to make it wrinkle. If you do have to clear it you need to wait several months to spray Rusto over Rusto. I can't say how it will stand up to road use but I use it a lot in my scale modeling.
  5. This was literally the most seamless transition I've seen in more than 20 years of being an avid message board user. Some of the things I've experienced and seen: the forum being down for a week, the formatting being totally wrong, to the worst of all being the entire 15 year history, including all posts and all member accounts, being deleted.
  6. This is the best advice. The car looks fine, and your grandfather actually applied this paint himself. Preserve it and you are preserving a piece of him.
  7. Definitely Henry J. Kaiser. I've only ever seen one Henry J and unfortunately it was not stock. At least it wasn't a gasser. I've never seen an Allstate version.
  8. Just yesterday I saw this unusual colored new Corvette. First time I've seen one of them up close, too. It was a very light blue, a color I don't think I've ever seen on a car before.
  9. They are currently redecking the Westbound Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and it's only about half done right now. Isn't too much of a problem traffic wise at this point.
  10. I just crossed the Bear Mountain Bridge for the first time in January, and crossed Kingston-Rhinecliff for the first time last year. It's funny, they are so close but I never went across them because Newburgh-Beacon and Mid-Hudson are closer.
  11. I'm genuinely happy about this. Can't wait to see them on the road.
  12. Very cool. I love the architecture of the George Washington bridge but surprisingly I've never been across it. One of only two major Hudson crossings I've never made, the other being the Rip Van Winkle bridge from Hudson to Catskill. I've crossed the Newburgh-Beacon and Mid Hudson bridges more times than I can count. The Newburgh-Beacon Bridge is about 15 minutes away from me. My brother crosses it every single day of the week.
  13. Glad to see you doing this. My brother had a 1996 and it was his favorite car...also the first car I ever drove.
  14. Posting something irrelevant to an old topic isn't the same as adding pertinent information or asking a question actually about that topic, that's more akin to spam, although it can also come from simple lack of knowledge on how forums work. Not everyone is as comfortable and knowledgeable about using computers and technology as we forum regulars are.
  15. If the information is already there and still relevant there's no need to reinvent the wheel. It keeps information about whatever the topic it is about together and easier to find. Many rehashed threads end up with just a link to a previous thread about the topic that was already covered. It could preserve the knowledge of a person who has passed away that would otherwise not be available because the person who had it is no longer here to share it again. Information that was documented closer to the event happening is more accurate than later memories as other bits of knowledge crowd the minds of everyone over time. This is perhaps less relevant on a classic car forum than some other forums since the majority of the cars discussed predate the forum, at least for a couple more years. Honestly, there is very little reason that a new thread should be started. The one place I can see the reason for a new thread is in Buy/Sell/Trade forums, or BST. Although even there it could be useful for researchers to track and create at least a digital paper trail.
  16. Really hate to see this. I hope you are all ok and the the damage turns out to be less than estimated.
  17. Facebook has never sent me any mail talking about overthrowing the US government and how anarchy is "the only way to save the world"
  18. With my health problems, I'm limited to just looking at them and photo documenting them.
  19. The worst for selling your name is the American Archaeological Society. Not the one that publishes Archaeology Magazine, the other one that basically only cares about the far west US. Got bombarded by crap after they sold my name...
  20. Thanks for the comments. I didn't realize it was still so prevalent. I am surprised I didn't notice it in the past since I love to watch the snow and watch cars driving in the snow. My dad was a USPS employee for the last 20+ years of his life, making the trucks go. I'm surprised he didn't mention it. How late in the year is it required out west? I've never been further than Joliet Illinois, yet...but that will be changing this year.
  21. I was not able to get a photo but as I headed out to the dentist this afternoon I saw a postal employee putting chains on the mail delivery trucks' tires. I don't recall seeing this before. I know chains were in use in the 60s but I thought that they were out of use. Is this a widespread practice that I just didn't notice before or something unusual? They are predicting 8 inches of snow and a mix with ice for today here in the Hudson Valley NY. It's already started actually.
  22. Our family daily driver is dark metallic red and my brother's car is light metallic blue. The last red car we had was a Chrysler Cordoba...blue has been the predominant family car color. I can remember 5 blue, 2 red, 1 white and 1 metallic orange. Have pictures of 1 green but don't have any memories of it. Most of our cars didn't last that long... considering I've only been alive since 1984.
  23. 16 years old, in my brother's 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier. June of 2000. My aunt let me steer while I stood on her knees at 3 years old, don't know what kind of car it was but I remember it was red with a brown interior.
