  1. I removed my heater core from my 63 from the firewall side. I had the heater core recore at a radiator shop in Baltimore. When I replaced the heater core I used plumbers metal copper tape. I made sure the plumbers tape wasn’t going to cause any damage by friction rubbing. It’s been in now 3 years or so and no leaks, no squeaks, and the heater works fine. In the horrible event of a 60 mph head on collision I would not be surprised the heater core would loosen up a bit. Some made negative remarks about cutting the firewall. When I replaced the cut metal and plenum there are no signs I butchered the car, one fellow remarked. im first in favor of doing the best and neatest job possible. As an automotive enthusiast not trained in mechanics I do a good job. Turbinator
  2. Sir, I believe a paint code from the factory ( PPG or Ditzler chart) would have what you are looking for. With the paint code a good paint supplier can make it up for you. The second way , and a long shot, is have the original paint from the wheel scanned at a paint shop with the tool to make up the color. I had some paint made up for vinyl sheeting and it turned out good.
  3. EmTee, I was told by Gene Guarnere the 65 Buick Roadwheels were painted Shadow Gray on the webs. The Shadow gray I saw was a darker gray like charcoal gray. Maybe that is why many call the color charcoal gray. In the absence of a paint chart for the web color it can be any shade of gray you like?
  4. That is what is important. I have the original gray sets, BUT yours looks great. Are any of kit walls lined with vinyl? Reason I ask is I did have vinyl put on the walls. I don’t have the gray in my car that is the factory gray. The vinyl lets me clean up after I’ve banged around back there.
  5. Red Riviera 63. Replaced factory “ wood” inlay with walnut raised panel beveled edge. Dash pad reupholstered with factory correct grain vinyl ( hair cell grain, not sure what animal). Replacement leather upholstery from Clark’s Corvair.
  6. This work is excellent. Pattern maker extraordinaire. Turbinator
  7. Well then Bilstein is wrong labeling a set of rear shocks “ for lowered cars”. Turbinator
  8. Tom what color were the webs for the Buick Roadwheels for 65 Riviera? Turbinator
  9. John, thanks for the heads up on the self vulcanizing silicone tape. im fixing up a harness output from an alternator. This should do the trick. than you Turbinator
  10. John, when it comes to upholstery it is just a puzzle I cannot figure. The patterns just don’t come to me. Turbinator
  11. EmTee, it’s like remembering rules of calculation for the quadratic formula. Thank you very much. I write these factoids where I can find them. Memorizing some items is beginning to be tedious. Then the 802/853 with less back spacing is not an option for your 67? Reasoning is backspacing on the 802/853 is too shallow for the 67. Turbinator
  12. I found the 49092 air filter on Amazon, but is was hard to find. A website Everythingtruckparts.com has the 49092 listed easy to find. Turbinator
  13. Now that was the case because you had drum brakes? Secondly, how did you handle the emblem fitment? I understand there are the cone type with either a 2” or 21/8” diameter. Then I understand the emblem was made larger in diameter And the retaining cap was different from the cone. thank you for the help. Bob
  14. In order to put the 895 Buick Roadwheel on a 63 Riviera would a spacer be required? The back spacing on the 895 is 3 3/8”. I’m not sure it is possible as the 895 was for disc brakes ( which I the 63 does not have). Thank you for your assistance. Turbinator
  15. Good morning, I’m missing something here. I go on Amazon and buy BG products. Are you helping us with the hard to find BG products? Places to shop? turbinator
  16. EmTee, since I was a boy changing oil in Dad’s pick up, used Chevy and Buicks he drove I always wondered about started the engine with no oil circulating in the engine. Then I read about priming the vertical oil filter at oil change time. Then I thought about the horizontal oil filter fitment. I just put about a 1/3 full in hopes not much would leak while I was spinning the horizontal filter on. I’m a fan of the better on going maintenance items for my Riviera. BG products I believe are worth the money. For ethanol gasoline treatment I use only HEET or BG products based on a University study that appeared to be a good study. Turbinator
  17. Ray, I called OReilly’s store in siouthern Maryland. The Waldorf store employee said he would make the request for the filter. The gent went on to say if it is available he try to snag one for me. Also, he will call back and tell me the full story. I suspect you are right saying the 42092 is discontinued. I think I’ve beat this horse enough. Turbinator
  18. Yes Sir, one thing it tells me is the 63 Riv air filter is different size than the 64 and 65. I would think there would more crossover of parts compatibility then there is. The generalization I make is if the Japanese develops a good design that works they keep. By example the Toyotas I’ve had as my daily drivers hood support has been the same since 1988. I think Americans change designs in hopes of selling more vehicles. I appreciate you taking the time to show all the items we might use. Turbinator
  19. NTX, you are right on regarding customer service. High tech low touch. You call a company and you end going through the answering machine drill. I found an exception to my general statement. A company known as Cyclone makes their equipment here in the US. I use their stuff a lot for what I do. I call and Jody answers the phone and Jody puts me through to Joe in Tech support. If Joe is on the line. Jody takes my name and number and says when Joe is free he will call you. Joe calls. Makes sense to me. No voice Mail no run around. Good example of management knowing what customers want. A NAPA dealer in Hunt Valley MD ran down an A6 newly manufactured air compressor for my needs. The dealer was the owner and worked hard to get my air compressor. Turbinator
  20. Ray, one way I know of to find out. I’ll let you know one way or the other if I get the filter. Turbinator
  21. John, I do not know the dimensions of the air filter. I would hope their design engineers and QC folk would know what product dimensions should be. An error in manufacturing would not surprise me. Turbinator
  22. While we were on filters I found a Wix 42092. They changed part number but said a direct fit for 63 Riviera. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/wix/wix-round-panel-air-filter/wix0/42092/v/a/13723/automotive-car-1963-buick-riviera?q=42082+air+filter&pos=1
  23. “ Rollers” as I know them. These are Automobiles gents chrome even the under carriage then engrave the chrome. Super intricate paint work with scallops, fog, metal flake, Diamond dust, pin striping, clear coats, gleaming wire spoke wheels are standard. Additionally, the automobile has no gasoline or oil for fear of leaks. I believe these one time autos are known as Folk Art. Their purpose is to show their creation. The one time automobile is now Art to show for folks to enjoy…. Or not enjoy. We can label the “ Roller” a car, but no longer the automobile drivers know the vehicle. There is no arguing personal taste Later Gator The Turbinator
  24. EmTee, Electro polishing, Electroless nickel plating. The Hydrographic film is all new to me. Thank you Turbinatir
  25. Arnulfo, I’m with you on the EPA restrictions, etc. As much as government ties our hands there is some good science proving some chemicals in chrome plating causes cancer. Somethings are not to be played with. The shop I was using down South was great, but I couldn’t stand the costs. The chrome costs are Just out of my reach for added value resale items. There are other methods for achieving a great shine and metal protection for metal, but a great shine for some people is not a chrome mirror shine. Additionally, the shops doing other than chrome plating, are not all that keen on automotive gear. Thank you Turbinator
