  12. Wouldn’t happen in Uk , have to be 18 to drive relating to thread title , family car , I’m afraid I wasn’t much older when my friends and I inadvertently wreaked a good 1960s Humber . In the late sixties in Uk many of the teenagers belonged to social groups then named Mods and Rockers , they were bitter enemies . Mods were smart dressers and road scooters , lambrettas or Vespas . Rockers rode big bikes , I liked big bikes , but in Uk you could only drive up to 250 cc on a provisional licence , so scooters were popular . My friends and I were Mods , and we used to always go to certain scooter repair shop and knew the owner well . in those times thousands of Mods would meet on holiday week ends at well known beach resorts , along the south coast Brighton being very popular , the Rockers on their big bikes would turn up to spoil things . luckily the rockers were usually vastly outnumbered and suffered badly in violent clashes . On one particular week end , the weather predicted was bad and girlfriends don’t like being soaked or having nowhere dry to sleep so we hired the scooters repair guys big Humber , ideal for 6 of us. off we went arrived Friday afternoon , spent time on beach , swimming disco in evening. There were probably 5000 Mods on scooters cruising the beach front , however a few hundred bikers arrived Saturday afternoon causing trouble, we watched as they were chased into the sea and they left , however that night when we came out of a music bar , there was a large group of bikers outside, there was only about 10 of us and when they charged we ran , we jumped into the Humber and locked doors . Unfortunately one of them recognised us and they surrounded car and turned it on it’s side ( not good for body work) . Pretty scary , luckily police turned up and they ran . We righted car with some help and next morning after breakfast we packed up and started our journey home. We drove with an escort of about 20 scooters heading in the same direction , but on the outskirts the town we were joined by about 100 bikers . Many of the scooters were forced off the road and the riders attacked. They surrounded our car and the bikers passengers kicked and beat the car . My friend who was driving swerved a few times to discourage them in doing so we scrapped the wall of a narrow bridge and in the panic he forgot to change gear and screamed the car in 2nd gear , which caused the car serious damage . The bikers were obviously locals and gave up following us. We limped home but car sounded dreadful . The car owner was reasonable about car and we came to an agreement . My friend the driver was well off and paid the bigger share , the rest of us chipped in. He never repaired car , I remember seeing it still parked there years after sad.
  13. Love the above project and appreciate the workmanship as I have laid many pavers around my property during recent years but house and plot smaller than the expanse of project shown . ( Uk city houses small) relating to thread subject , been trimming trees along my boundary , only 7 trees 😊 regarding car hobby had a satisfying week bought an exhaust manifold , carb parts and bumpers for my healey project all at great prices , not the same satisfaction as achieved at looking at paving project , but still satisfaction .
