  1. The guys at the automotive paint retailer recommend a "splash" of reducer (ie thinner) to thin it out a little and spray easier and smoother. That was for the epoxy primer I was buying, but is probably applicable to all others.
  2. You may be referring to this. Lot's of info online about the Ford/Lincoln IRS. http://monterey.craigslist.org/pts/d/ford-88-posi-disc-break/6455290791.html Ford 8.8 posi disc break independent rear suspension - $350 This unit came out of a mid 90s Super coupe Thunderbird . it was a drivable vehicle . So we know everything works. $350 . disk to disk without shocks. $425. with self adjusting shocks. call Paul.
  3. The '55 Nash body was designed by Pininfarina, same as my Alfa Romeo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1RkBCoeb5A
  4. http://us.ppgrefinish.com/PPG-Refinish/Products/Automotive-Refinish/Deltron If you're using PPG you can look up the product data sheets online. It seems you don't need to sand for adhesion purposes, unless as mentioned above if you exceed the "time window" between coats you need to sand and wipe with the surface cleaner. Here's an example of what it says: Note: DPLF Epoxy Primer may be recoated any time up to 1 week. After 1 week, it must be cleaned, sanded and recleaned. Reapply 1 addional coat of DPLF Epoxy Primer only if applying basecoat directly to DPLF
  5. I am rooting for the mouse nest plugging up the exhaust possibility.

  7. Driver's door is not lining up well either. price seems reasonable though considering it's a dealer.
  8. THUNDERBIRD (sold) THUNDERBIRD (sold)
  9. THUNDERBIRD here the link for ease of finding it. you are correct that paint is not an exact match.
  10. Did the OP say his Packard will be done single-stage? I don't think he said one way or the other.
  11. No, I wouldn't say that. The Buy it Now or Best Offer, I wouldn't call the Buy it Now price the reserve. You can set it up so that any "Best Offer" at or above a certain figure will be automatically accepted. That I would consider your "reserve" if you did it that way. Or you can have it just so any Best Offer made, you look at and decide if you want to accept, ignore, or counter. Don't automatically counter any offers. If it is a good serious offer. you like it, then just accept. Low ball, ignore it, don't counter.
  12. Would the factory finish ( on this subject Packard ) when new meet this standard of a perfect, flat, flawless surface when looking down the side of the car? A new Mercedes coming off the line these days will not get 10 to 15 hours of wet sanding done on it's hood either.
  13. How come no wagers are being made as to what the cause is?
  14. There is the same house, though it may be difficult to recognize.
  15. This might be it. Link Mr. Fiat - http://mrfiat.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=fiat+trim+clip This is what early Alfa used. It is held on by a screw or pop rivet, and it is just a bit bigger than the trim so the trim snaps over it. Those of yours look like the common door panel clips, only flat. Door panel clips have a slot for a board. You also may be able to use something like these, if you cut the extra part off them. These are very common, American clips.

Steering box seems to be frozen, will not turn. New inner tubes, new battery. $10,000 Alameda. Took oil pan off, emptied and cleaned it. Oil pump works great. call: 510-810-2445
  17. What you need to know is who this seller is and where he got it. Probably got it cheap from an estate sale and should be asking no more than 10% above what he paid for it. I get the sense the seller is a flipper.
  18. That's incredible. It looks like the driven disk can move side-to-side and that would vary the gear ratio? A continuously variable transmission? Something engineers are continuing to work on.
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1925-Locomobile-Junior-8/183101091144? Here it is on eBay. Feel free to make an offer. Offer $10k if you feel like it.
  20. So the Tesla body is mainly aluminum. And the Ford F-150 also uses aluminum body panels.
  21. I'm not sure that "taking it down to bare metal" is always necessary or even advisable. That is to say to get the best result on a limited budget it may be better to not do that. The Packard subject of this thread may be such a case since it doesn't seem to have rust. Some of the paint is worn through to the original primer. I would consider taking it all down to the original primer without putting any coarse grit scratch marks in it, then a primer-sealer coat and new top single stage paint.
  22. I have only liability insurance, but that needs to go way up too because I might scratch and total a Tesla. Tax the poor to subsidize the wealthy is a common theme of many government policies.
  23. I got a title for a car i bought without a title, by using one of those "title companies" and the help of the fellow I bought it from. But there is at least a couple of different circumstances: 1) The person you buy the untitled car from says they are the true owner, they lost the title, and are willing to sign a notarized statement to that effect. Then there will be a new "duplicate" title issued and any previous title will be void, should any turn up in the future. 2) The untitled vehicle is abandoned, such as on a property that is sold, or the owner is just nowhere to be found. If the vehicle is not in the computer system you can apply for a new title. Or if it is in the system and there is an "owner of record" you can get a title by sending a certified letter to the address of the "owner of record" saying they must claim it and pay storage fees, or something to that effect, or if no response a new title can issue to the person in possession. This is how I got my title, using a "title company" who sent the registered letter, waited the appropriate time, then completed all the affiliated paperwork. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr10 How To: Apply for a Duplicate California Certificate of Title (HTVR 10) PDF Versions You always need an: Application for Duplicate or Paperless Title (REG 227) form. You may also need: Your driver license or identification (DL/ID) card. A notarized lien satisfied letter or notarized Lien Satisfied/Legal Owner/Title Holder Release (REG 166) form. A Statement of Facts (REG 256) form. A Verification of Vehicle (REG 31) form. A Vehicle/Vessel Transfer and Reassignment Form (REG 262). A Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability (REG 138) form. A Notice of Change of Address (DMV 14) form. Additional documents and fees. A duplicate title fee. When Do I Need a Duplicate Title? A duplicate California Certificate of Title must be obtained when the original is lost, stolen, mutilated, illegible, or not received. An Application for Duplicate or Paperless Title (REG 227) form, available at www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg227.pdf, must be completed by the legal or registered owner (if no legal owner is on DMV records) and submitted with the duplicate title fee.
