  2. You could still get 9.50 by 16.5 tires if you wanted. Firestone Transforce HT 9.50R16.5 E/10PR BSW, Set of 4 tires $ 748.44, free shipping. This new Firestone Transforce HT 9.50R16.5 E/10PR BSW Tires. Manufacturer part number: 189820. The Firestone Transforce HT tire is a heavy duty light truck tire for all seasons that promises wet and dry performance along with a quiet, comfortable ride. This is a great tire for fleets because it has a special tread compound for low rolling resistance and a casing design that runs cooler. Both these features contribute to the Firestone Transforce HT tire improving your fuel economy by 1% versus other Firestone tires. In addition to having this superb fuel efficiency, this tire also provides long wear life and puncture resistance. This comes from an extra steel belt under the tread and polyester casing plies with extra tensile strength. The Firestone Transforce HT is designed to last, with durablity and toughness to keep you on the road. https://www.tires-easy.com/9.50-16.5/firestone-tires/transforce-ht/tirecode/189820 https://www.tires-easy.com/ This website allows you to buy unusual size tires. They ship direct from the manufacturer, including sizes that are not commonly available in the USA. They ship to you, and you take them to the shop of your choice for mounting. I have bought high profile 80 series tires for my car, a size I could never have found at a local tire shop, But since you already have the 16 inch rims I'd stick with those. If you still had the 16.5 on the truck I'd probably be looking for 16.5 tires.
  3. Found this info: Numeric Tire Sizing System The first system developed for tire sizing was used until the late 1960s, but provided only the cross section width of the tire and the rim diameter in inches. If the section width ended in zero (e.g., 7.00-14 or 7.50-14), the tire has a common aspect ratio of about 92. For section widths not ending in zero (e.g., 8.25-15), the tire was considered "low profile" with an aspect ratio of about 82. and The numeric method is the oldest tire sizing system for automobile tires. This system only provides the cross-section width of the tire and the rim diameter in inches. Two versions of numeric tire sizes were used as original equipment on vehicles between 1949 and 1970. The early numeric tires had the equivalent of a 90-series aspect ratio, while later tires offered a "lower" profile equivalent to a 80-series. These tires typically featured tread widths ranging from 3.5 inches for the smallest 13 inch rim diameter tires to about 5.5 inches for the largest 15 inch rim diameter tires. If the section width ended in zero (e.g., 7.00-14 or 7.50-14) the tire had an aspect ratio of about 92. For section widths not ending in zero (e.g., 8.25-15) the tire was considered "low profile" with an aspect ratio of about 82. For example, a tire labeled 7.00-14 has a section width of 7 inches, a rim diameter of 14 inches, and an aspect ratio of 92. The low profile equivalent size tire with an aspect ratio of 82 would be 7.35-14. Was the above the same system used for light truck tires? It seems to indicate the aspect ratio could have been 92. I seem to remember the early tires looking narrow and tall, maybe taller in aspect ratio than 80. I briefly had a new '73 C20 and it had the 16.5 inch with tires that seemed very tall. Also my Dad's half ton had 7.00-15 that were very narrow but seemed plenty tall.
  4. On mine it's not even the piston that is leaking, it's this part in the picture. I'll take it apart, see if i can find the correct seal to use easily, and if not junk the whole thing. What would be in there? A hydraulic cup type seal like in a clutch master cylinder? Or just something like an O-ring?
  5. I've been looking for a new jack since my old 3 ton Sears is leaking. Seems the new "3 Ton" are smaller and lighter than what I have. I think I will get this, mainly since it is MADE IN THE USA. Hein-Warner 2 ton $235. The 3 ton is $499. http://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemDisplay.cfm?lookup=HEIHW93642 http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200325577_200325577? http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200325615_200325615
  6. This is a good place to shop for tools. Northern Tool online. I've bought several things from them. A Hitatchi electric jackhammer for instance. Bossch drill. Milwaukee rotohammer. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/category_automotive+jacks+floor-jacks
  7. Harbor Freight now has this one called "Daytona" and supposedly is like the Snap-On only with a longer warranty. A knock-off? It's $199 but if you use the 25% coupon like the one for the Easter weekend that came in the mail it would be only $150. http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-daytona-professional-steel-service-jack-super-duty-63183.html
  8. Those "Drums" look huge in the first picture, but didn't the OP say they are only 7 inches in diameter? Could they be for a "band brake" as opposed to driving a belt for farming? The picture of one of these tri-Cars seems to show it has band brakes up front, at least I think that's what I am seeing.
  9. It's missing a critical part. Don't know what it's called though.
  10. If it was common to specify a wrench or bar no longer than 6 inches it suggests it wasn't that high. I would think 60 pounds of force would be pulling quite hard, and if at the end of a 6 inch wrench that would only be 30 foot-pounds.

  12. If Karl's disassembled unit still includes the "brass bellows" I'd like to see a close-up picture of it. That would be the key to a reliable electric pump. Something like a rubber diaphragm that can be used to pump by expanding it and contracting, without it degrading and rupturing. In this case a brass bellows was used. How much elasticity and durability could that have? It seems the bellows was pulled open by the electromagnet, it would fill with fuel, then the magnet de-energized, and the bellows would contract expelling the fuel. It would have been, say, an early attempt at a self-priming plunger type pump, as opposed to centrifugal pump. I suppose it would also have had a check valve. "Autopulse is a small magnetic fuel pump that consumes very little current. It delivers clean gasoline from the reserve tank by the pumping action of a brass bellows, which is expanded by an electro-magnet."
  13. Brass Bellows (?) and an electromagnet. 1926 Marine fuel pump.
  14. How did the AutoPulse work? Like an electromagnet/solenoid pushing a piston against a diaphragm? And maybe a check valve? I see many newer AutoPulse pumps pictured online.
  15. I'd say the tongue weight could be lower, like maybe 4,000 pounds. But how is that Okay? That's still 2 tons right over the tow vehicle's rear axle. Wouldn't that bottom out it's springs? Also it should be noted that if the trailer brakes are applied the tongue weight will go up, probably substantially. That is because the center of gravity is high, well above where the trailer wheels contact the ground so there will be a forward rotation or torque. Just like when you brake hard in your car: there is substantial weight shift to the front wheels.
  16. You,re not saying it.s part of a snap are you? This is a pic of a complete snap.
  17. Very similar to the waist buttons used on Dickies Jeans and Levis. They stand off from the fabric they are attached to. You need the other part to install them.

  19. Were those two vehicles crash victims before they were loaded? They both have indented roofs, like the whole tow rig rolled.
  20. Here's some info on an Australian 503 I stumbled across. I suppose this would have the Ricardo cylinder head. Fiat 503 engine had 27 hp, 1460cc and a multiple-disc clutch with 4 speed tranny. Oldest on show was an 87 year-old Fiat 503. According to its owner Ric, this model was the first Fiat with front wheel brakes, was only built during 1926-27, is unique in the state and one of only a handful in Australia. It drives through a four-speed gearbox. Link - > Fiat 503
