  1. Not sure what the problem is. You might try 3M "77" Spray upholstery adhesive. It may be no different than contact cement though. I use it on the back of vinyl and on foam and other things and it seems to work fine and is very sticky. 3M 77-10 7 Oz Super 77 Spray Adhesive - LINK $8.99 If your project involves keeping things in place, then the 3M 77-10 7 oz Super 77 Spray Adhesive can provide the binding you need to finish. 2. Chequered Flag International, 4128 Lincoln Blvd, Marina Del Rey, CA I used to live in an apartment near this dealer in Marina del Rey. They used to have a lot of interesting vintage vehicles. Not so much anymore. They have a couple Bentley and one Rolls at this time.
  3. i sent a PM to the OP asking for this info. hope that helps to prompt a response. It seems sometimes threads are started by people who never look at them again.
  4. You have the right to lower your previous offer which was turned down because you feel like it. In fact the seller lowering his price to match your previous rejected offer gives you more information: That you don't have much in the way of competing bidders. I would lower my offer on principle. If the seller had turned up his nose at my previous, sleazy, "low-ball" offer, I would lower it further to impress upon him that what he perceived to be sleazy and low-ball, may in fact not have been.

  6. I went to see and Alfa Romeo engines for sale here in Santa Rosa. Guy had a couple. I was most interested in the 1971 1750cc, not the 1974 2000cc The fellow didn't know too much, because some guy who had rented his moms garage left them behind, or something like that. They are both rebuildable cores, and shops that sell rebuilt engines will give you a $200 credit for a core exchnage, IF they take it apart, measure the crank journals etc and like it they will credit you. So this fellow said $500 for the 1750cc engine and I could have both for $850. He had advertised $500 each. I offered him $350 for the 1750 cc. He said no. I think he said it was worth $500, but he'd let me have it for $450. I left, but he had my number and I said call if you change your mind. So these engines continued to to be for sale for months, and the asking price dropped to what I had offered. Then the 1750 showed up for sale in Berkeley. At $450. I think a fellow that hoards Alfa parts in Berkeley bought it for, probably $300, and turned around and immediately put it for sale at $450. I called him. Said I bet you bought that for less than what I had offered the guy.

  8. Just tell him too late. Offers are not open ended. You could tell him you spent that $4,000 elsewhere, but he doesn't deserve that consideration. Or, tell him if his "bottom line" dropped from 5,000 to 4,000, then your top line also dropped from 4,000 to 3,000 You are not "in a spot" or a jerk

  11. No Reserve: 1940 Buick Coupe, SOLD FOR $18,500 ON 5/16/19 Is this a legitimate price data point? I would think so, since it was a widely published auction. It is interesting in it is said to have $13k bare metal paint work, new leather interior. So it seems to confirm prices are weak. I other words, if this were a private seller offering it in Hemmings, I doubt he would have been asking for $18.5k. http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1940-buick-coupe-3-speed/ No Reserve: 1940 LaSalle Series 50 Coupe, SOLD FOR $27,500 ON 5/16/19 This is rather weak too, I'd say. 1940 LaSalle Series 50 Coupe

  13. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1957-1959-ford-fairlane-skyliner1.htm This doesn't really have helpful pictures, just text explaining it some. Though it may have looked simple from the outside, the retractable mechanism that evolved was fiendishly complex. Seven purpose-built electric motors, each with its own circuit breaker, were needed to operate the screw-type decklid and roof locks (two for the former and four on the latter), and the screw jacks that moved the decklid and roof.

  17. Mechanics is better learned young, just as learning a foreign language is much easier for children than older adults. Disassembling and rebuilding and engine is something teenagers should be exposed to, so they see how to use a torque wrench, calipers, micrometer, and see the pistons, rings, main and rod bearings. Most I did as a teenager was overhaul the top end of my two stroke single cylinder motorcycle. Replaced the piston and rings, and fit those into the bored cylinder. I got some exposure, but not much, early on. Parents took cars to the shop for most work. But they both were busy working full time.
  18. Montevideo Motor Museum This item appears on page 52 of the November 2011 issue. In Montevideo, Uruguay, the Museo del Automóvil (Colonia 1251; phone 902 47 92), at the corner of Colonia and Yi streets, is a hidden gem in more ways than one. First, none of the tourist information my wife and I collected in Uruguay mentioned the museum. My wife and I learned about it from the Uruguay chapter in the 2010 Lonely Planet guidebook “Argentina.” The museum is also hard to find. It’s located on the sixth floor of a parking garage at 1251 Colonia Street. Head toward the middle of the garage and take the small elevator behind the gas station and near an office of the Automóvil Club del Uruguay, which runs the museum. If there was a sign anywhere nearby for the museum, we didn’t see it. The museum has a wide range of vintage cars, most fully restored. I estimate the total collection to number three to four dozen. The friendly gentleman who hosted our November ’10 visit didn’t speak English but managed to cover the highlights and convey his enthusiasm for these old cars. He showed us the attached shops where the restoration takes place and allowed us to see cars in the process of being restored. I was even allowed to have my photograph taken while sitting in a Ferrari. Some of the more unusual cars in the museum include a 1910 Hupmobile, a 1948 Riley, a 1935 Morris, a 1920 Stutz and a 1910 Panhard Levassor. A 1939 Cadillac, a 1930 Ford Model A and a 1923 Ford Model T are among the classic American autos displayed. The museum is open 5-9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 3-9 weekends. Admission is free, with donations appreciated. I consider this humble museum to be the highlight of our three-day November ’10 visit to Montevideo. 20. I know some of the people commenting under that auction, and they are not antique car people. Two BMW people and an Alfa Romeo collector.
  21. Explain how reversing the vanes gives you reverse.
  22. The original design called for a separate torque converter driving each of the two rear wheels; no gears, or at least no shifting up though gears during acceleration. Doesn't that suggest engineering incompetence? That would waste a lot of energy; power to the wheels being less. Did they intend for the torque converters to lock at a low speed? The fact this would make providing for reverse difficult is tangential; in other words not providing reverse is a big problem, but there is an even bigger underlying problem with the basic concept.
